It looks like it's safe to go into the waters for the next six months or so. Ryan Rotten is reporting the upcoming remake of Piranha 3-D has been postponed from its shoot schedule and won't go under the lens until at least March or April 2009. The original plan was to begin shooting the killer fish tale this fall but pre-production is taking longer than expected.
A source says "There just wasn't enough time for pre-production to get it done in time," says one insider. "It's all about pre-production and trying to make it the best it can be."
Nobody has been cast in the horror film as of yet but Alexandre Aja, who's horror Mirrors hit theaters last month, will be directing the project. He also co-wrote the screenplay alongside Grégory Levasseur, Peter Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg.
Plot Concept: In this remake of Joe Dante's original, a tremor causes Arizona's Lake Havasu floor to open, setting free scores of prehistoric piranhas.
Dimension has the film scheduled to debut in theaters on July 24, 2009 but this production delay will likely push that premiere back to the fall.
