Scoop Feedback:

June 22, 2001... Ted Tally has come on board to scribe this thing, and Ridley Scott might just sign on as well, depending on the script. At the end of this month, Tally's going to hand in an outline and then Scott will make his decision. Universal is in talks to nab this one. [Info taken from Hollywood Reporter.]

August 15, 2002... Baz Lurhmann (Moulin Rouge) has now climbed onboard this project as director and is coaxing his Romeo + Juliet co-star Leonardo DiCaprio to star as Alexander. While DiCaprio had been attached to this project back when Martin Scorsese was still linked as the film's director, Lurhmann is said to be further along in persuading DiCaprio to commit to the project. [Variety.]

May 23, 2003... A terrorist bombing in Casablanca has resulted in the Baz Luhrmann production of ALEXANDER THE GREAT being pulled out of Morocco. The movie, slated to star Leonardo DiCaprio as the famous conqueror, will leave behind a studio and set up its shop in Australia.

The situation has so destabilized the region that other productions that had been contemplating filming in Morocco, like the new STAR WARS and INDIANA JONES pictures, will likely not film there now. Wolfgang Petersen's historial action epic TROY shifted its location from Morocco too after earlier fears of terrorist attacks.

Luhrmann's ALEXANDER movie is slated to begin filming early next year. Oliver Stone's rival ALEXANDER picture starring Colin Farrell as the leader has already commenced filming. [Variety.]
