Alexander Opens Up on PUNISHER:WAR ZONE

It seems that the first officially released still, pictured on the left, of PUNISHER:WAR ZONE didn't go very well with a lot of our readers. When you hear a majority of people comparing the actor to Steven Seagal after Stevenson has already proven himself on Rome, you know the first screenshot didn't go over well at all. Still, director Lexi Alexander doesn't shy away from speaking her mind nor does she hold back from talking about how passionate she is for the project on her official blog.

Alice Chapman Newgen over at Superhero Hype had a chance to catch up with the director for some quick questions about the upcoming sequel. You can read about it right here.

Between that pic and that interview...I have reallly, really low expectations for this film...and I'm not entirely sure why...I mean I haven't seen or even heard of her other movie...but I get this bad vibe that this chick director is going to be the female Uwe Boll.

Seriously, that pic only coincidently looks like Steven Segal. Was it the still I would have chosen? No. But if that pic in any way informs ones earliest opinion of what this movie may be like, then they already know what they are going to think of the movie, good or bad.

Like I said before, anyone that reads the Max Punisher line or has seen the covers can tell that that was the look Lexi was going for and she confirms it in the interview. Now I'm even more amped up for this than before and I think it's going to be better than the first.

The image didn't really change my expectations of this movie (I don't have any yet). All I know is, if you just showed me that picture with no information about it, I would have said it was Steven Segal immediately. It's one image that shows me very little so it means very little. I do think the skull is a little too faded, but as I said before, that could be the lighting. If not, it's something I could get over easily enough.

i completely agree w/necro...if people judge this movie by this pic they've already got their minds made up.

it should be noted that i, adn i think the majority of people, simply thought this pic made him look like segal. it in no way influences the film or what i think about stevensons acting (which was awesome in rome...and he didn't run like a nancy, as segal does, so that's a plus).

that totally does look like Steven Seagal but i'm just gonna wait to see what they trailer looks like before i judge it. i really liked the first Punisher movie..not the Dolph Ludgren one but the newest one.

Klatu is right and so are the other posters, all we said was "thats Steven Segal" nobody ever said anything negative of Stevenson's acting ability, you cant honestly say anything like that from one photo.
Lexi could release any number of promo shots of Stevenson for The Punisher II: War Zone taken in a controled studio setting (See Heath Ledger's Joker photos) so we're left scratching our heads in confusion is all... he DOES look very much like Steven Segal in this pic, thats all. If Lexi wants to fix a potential internet uproar, she might try releasing a better studio photo next time and not a frame from the movie... thats all.

Bad choice for the first photo to be released? Most definitely, but that's probably not the director's fault, but the publicity/marketing machine attached to the movie. I'm looking forward to seeing this movie, and I think Stevenson is going to make a GREAT Castle (no disrespect to Mr. Jane). I want to see a trailer before i get a feeling for the movie; one picture doesn't tell me anything. I do like that Frank's got the skull on his body armor. The director seems to be really fired up and passionate about her vision for the film, which I like. The first Punisher movie (and I don't mean the one from the 80s) was just too watered down for my taste. A Punisher movie needs to be hard core and violent.

no no no.... I liked the Dolph Lungren version. I'm not ashamed to admit it, it was crazy fun. the Punisher fans were outraged because he didnt wear the skull logo but hell Frank castle appeared in 1989 and I ate that shit up!

Hahahaha Steven Seagal. You can take that to the Bank.
