Newly minted MISSIONL IMPOSSIBLE 3 director J.J. Abrams has asked his ALIAS writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci to collaborate with him on a new draft of the M:I 3 screenplay. Whether this means Abrams and his pals are junking all material from any earlier drafts or if they're merely retooling the established story remains unclear.

Abrams, who is making his feature directoral debut with the second IMPOSSIBLE sequel, has helmed episodes of ALIAS, FELICITY and his new series LOST. Shooting on the film is scheduled to start next year for a summer 2006 release.
