The cat's finally out of the bag and we've got a release date for Fox's forthcoming ALIEN QUADRILOGY 9-disc DVD set. How's December 2 sound to you, just in time for getting it on Santa's shopping list?

Here's some of the goodies that are on the set:

-- versions of the original films (disc one) and special edition versions (disc two). Ridley Scott's ALIEN will contain both the original theatrical cut as well as the DIRECTOR'S CUT and a new commentary by Scott and almost all of the film's stars; James Cameron's ALIENS will include the special edition cut incorporating the removed footage now seen in the deleted scenes edition of the DVD and laserdisc; David Fincher's ALIEN 3 will have an extra 40 minutes of cut footage re-incorporated into the second version of the film; and Jean-Pierre Jeunet's ALIEN RESURRECTION will also contain additional material in its alternate cut. Among the new material in RESURRECTION is an alternate opening and ending.

-- all ALIEN directors, with the exception of ALIEN 3's David Fincher, contributed new interviews and material to the Quadrilogy.

-- The ninth bonus disc will contain material that couldn't be fit on the second discs for each ALIEN film, such as a new interview with Ridley Scott and Sigourney Weaver.

-- there is approximately 45 hours of brand-new material contained in the set.

If you don't want to buy the 9-disc set, each of the new versions of the movies will be available on DVD one month later, on January 6, for $26.98.

The Digital Bits has been paying close attention to the QUADRILOGY and has finally published its review of the set. The site will be adding reviews of each ALIEN film and its alternate cut and extra materials over time but already the review for discs one and two show how much new material is included on the QUADRILOGY set.

Finally, we'll tell you our own little scoop that we've heard about the newer version of ALIEN RESURRECTION. A friendly facehugger told us that among the new scenes in RESURRECTION is a quiet moment where the newly cloned Ripley is being shown a series of flash cards. One of the images is of a little girl, and that picture gives the Ripley clone a moment of hesitation. It's a nice scene where the memory of Newt is acknowledged. Also, we're also told that among the bonus materials for RESURRECTION is the unfinished ending sequence showing the Newborn Alien battling Ripley and Call on Earth. This ending was discarded.

The ALIEN QUADRILOGY hits the street on December 2 retailing for $99.98. Remember, in space no one can hear you scream after you've read your credit card bill.
