The Review!
Content:
Nami's initial character development from the end of volume six picks up and expands in this volume. I have waited a long time to see why she behaves the way she does and the flashback does an excellent job. The flashback reveals both what she was like before 'Suicide Week' and why she is after the redheaded girl Comrade. I'll leave it at that so I don't spoil it.
After defeating the priest Comrade and his little water buddy, he easily answers Taisuke's questions. In fact, he even offers to lead everyone to the lake holding Acro's Heart. The priest is supposed to meet the other Comrades there anyway, and he figures Katsumata probably wants to meet someone as powerful as Taisuke. Things are getting serious now, but the two reporters supply some comedic moments before things get ugly.
Before they can reach the lake with 'Acro's Heart', a Comrade attacks Taisuke and the others. She is the red-haired girl Nami has been searching for and Nami will not let anyone interfere with her revenge. She forces Taisuke and the others towards the lake, before engaging her enemy. The following battle doesn't play out too well for Nami, but strange happenings make it seem like her brother is somehow there in spirit.
Taisuke finally finds the lake, the other Comrades, and Megumi and Hirose. Things get ugly real quick. Taisuke gets his hands on Megumi, but Hirose seems dead inside. Unfortunately, I don't think Taisuke has come to the point that he can kill Hirose to save Megumi. I don't think Taisuke can kill any of the Comrades for that matter.
Will Katsumata's plan come to fruition? Can Taisuke and Yuta fight off all the Comrades and still save Megumi? Will Nami survive her own battle?
In Summary:
This volume hits a homerun with Nami's past being revealed, all the Comrades coming together at 'Acro's Heart', and Taisuke's continued resistance to accept that Hirose is beyond redemption. Even as another large part of Katsumata's master plan, and his 'power' is finally revealed, I can't help but reflect on Nami's character. I am ecstatic to read what her past was like. Seeing what happened to her before the 'Suicide Week' and how her brother died, makes her a much more likeable character. At this point, I think Nami and Taisuke have the best character development.
The problem with printing/packaging from volume six seems to be a one-time deal as volume seven has clean printing from start to finish. The funny extra comic at the end of this volume is a nice addition as it shows how different characters would have blogged the same events.
Overall, this is a good series with a unique idea in the 'Suicide Week' event and it moves along at a good pace with likeable characters. I highly recommend this series to anyone.
