It's a collision of talent for the new film project SKIPPING CHRISTMAS. Everything looks good on paper so far: the film is based on a satrical John Grisham novel of the same name; it's got comedian Tim Allen onboard to play the main character, Luther Krank; it's been adapted into a screenplay by HAPPY POTTER helmer Chris Columbus; and Revolution Studios president Joe Roth is getting behind the camera to make the movie. That's a pretty solid foundation, so expect to hear a lot more about this movie the closer to its release.
Grisham's novel told the story of an average family man who decides to skip the holidays and not spend thousands of dollars on presents. Instead, Luther Krank and his wife Nora plan on taking a Caribbean cruise and getting as far away from snow and shopping malls as possible. But the Kranks neighbors have a different reaction upon hearing the news, and soon pressure is put on the family to conform back to the traditional holiday standards of spending money and eating turkey under the Christmas tree. Who wins? You need to buy the book or wait to see the movie to find out.
Filming on SKIPPING CHRISTMAS is scheduled to start after Roth's involvement with producing the 2004 Oscar telecast is concluded.
