Agreed, Elbaz13. I suppose our only hope is a Green Lantern worthy bomb... Or an animated Spidey that's decent.

It can always be said that Hollywood loves to plan ahead, especially in regards to highly-anticipated (and profitable) properties. Such is the case here with Columbia Pictures and their Spider-Man franchise. Despite the fact that we have to wait until next summer to see The Amazing Spider-Man swing into 3D theaters, the studio has set aside a release date for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the follow-up to Marc Webb's superhero reboot.
Sony has listed the third major release of 2014 by placing a sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man with the release date of May 2, 2014. The only remaining films set for that year are Paramount and DreamWorks' Mr. Peabody & Sherman (March 21) and How to Train Your Dragon 2 (June 20).
It can also be considered a calling shot towards Walt Disney Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures in saying that Sony wishes to lead off the 2014 summer season with a comic film of their own rather than a character from The Avengers or Justice League, respectively.
The Amazing Spider-Man will launch into 3D theaters on July 3, 2012 and will star Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan, Martin Sheen and Sally Field.

I'm conflicted, I don't like much about this un-needed reboot. BUT I love Emma Stone and want her to succeed in everything she does.
Rebooting was overkill, they could have just left the originstory alone and moved forward with new production team and actors and villians.
I would like to say that I really loved the idea that Bruce Campbell could have really been MYSTERIO throughout the previous 3 movies. That would have been a great setup for a villian. Oh well.
I do not care what anyone thinks. Marvels BIGGEST mistake was selling the rights to Spiderman and the X-Men to Sony and Fox. This sucks so huge it hurts. I bet the people over at Marvel are pretty pissed that they signed tose contracts. Why did they make them for an indefinate period of time? That was DUMB AS SHITE. Why did they not make them for a maximum of say three movies and then they were over? SO SO SO DUMB.
First movie hasn't even finished filming. What's that old proverb about not counting your chickens before they hatch?
I'm thinking it will take more of a "Catwoman" (2004) type bomb to bog down this money machine.
Even if the Amazing spider man sucks, it will still make enough money to justify a sequel. Most didn't like the trailer and the peter parker odd kid out who is going to show up with a shotgun to school approach.
This is a smart move by Sony. The film will be huge despite all the rumblings from some fans. Why not beat everyone to the date when the odds are so heavily in your favor that this reboot will indeed demand a sequel. All of the Spidey flicks went over 300mil easily so we can assume similar results. In the end all they did was set a date, it isn't like they're actively filming the sequel already.
Btw this is Sony going back to where they originally started with the first Spidey, first week of May.
I am looking forward to this big time. I love Raimi's Spiderman but I thought they went downhill with each sequel. Now I want a better interpretation with a bad ass villain. Can't wait
Even though us fanboys don't like the idea of an early reboot or Columbine Peter, you know Sony will still make money even if we boycott this film. The little 8-12 year old kids who love Spidey don't care which studio makes this movie, as long as they end up seeing it and buying the toys.
A colossal flop it will not be. Look how terrible Batman and Robin was and still made some decent coin because of the popularity of the main character. Same goes for Superman Returns. Sorry to say this but this movie will still make cash.
I did read on another entertainment website someone posted this:
There has been a lot of speculation that Sony (the parent company) may be selling off their entertainment divisions in this next year. They've been hit hard by the downturn in the economy (people arent' buying pricey electronics) and their manufacturing has taken a major blow thanks to the earthquakes and devastation in Japan earlier this year. Sony Pictures could be sold off without majorly affecting their core electronics businesses, and doing so could bring in some much needed revenue to see them through these tough times.
Cross our fingers
I will say this for Sony, they have treated their Marvel properties with respect. I wouldn't mind if they held on to them as long as they kept it up. To date they have not short changed Spidey nor GR budget wise and for the most part have been pretty faithful even if Raimi took some liberties with the character.
So aside from not seeing Spidey being a part of the Marvel movieverse I think Sony has done him justice.
Translation : We're never going to give or sell the rights back to Marvel/Disney
Stupid Sony.
