American Horror Story Gets New Title

Season 2 will be known as...

By Robert T. Trate     August 03, 2012
Source: Entertainment Weekly

It’s American Horror Story: Asylum.

Season two is set in 1964 and stars Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Lily Rabe, Zachary Quinto, James Cromwell, and Joseph Fiennes. “When we launched the show last year, we kept quiet about the closed-ended nature of the show because we didn’t want to tip off the audience that the characters were not going to survive,” sad co-creator and executive producer Murphy. “Now that it has been established that each year is a closed-ended story, the time seemed right to reveal what we’re calling the new installment. … We picked Asylum because it not only describes the setting – an insane asylum run by Jessica Lange’s character which was formerly a tuberculosis ward – but also signifies a place of haven for the unloved and the unwanted. This year’s theme is about sanity and tackling real life horrors.”

The strategy is similar to Starz’ Spartacus, which uses a different subtitle for every season as well. American Horror Story returns to FX in October.

Thanks to
Chopsaki for the submission.

SPOILERS:  Um, characters didn't survive?  Did I miss an episode?  Because last I saw, the wife was pregnant, the husband was lurking and looking through windows, we still didn't know what the black suited freak was and the girl was having a romance with a ghost.  When did everyone die?  Did the damn thing have an ending?  I don't think so.   Anyone?

I think you missed the whole second half of the season....

seriously innersanctum you missed the whole 2nd half of the season when the kid born became kid satan and the whole family died off? in the words of the miz "really? really? REALLY? that show was so closed ended as in the story was done, finito, over.

ztigr 8/3/2012 9:54:24 AM

Yup, I missed that too, oh well, no reason to catch up now...

Damn, I rented them all on Netflix.  There wasn't another disc.  I spent this whole time ticked that it had no ending.  Damn, damn, damn!

MrJawbreakingEquilibrium 8/3/2012 10:42:10 PM

How did you rent them on Netflix? It's not even out on DVD yet.

Guess I was mistaken.  I watched them on Amazon.  Same place I just wrapped up the series.  Was it supposed to be a homage or just a rip off.  I usually liked Wong's work on the X-Files.  The ending....well, they used everything from Rosmary's Baby to the Shining, but Beetlejuice?   I really think they should have ended it before the new family moved went seriously down hill.  Not that it was amazing, but how many horror dramas are on TV?

Or, I watched them on FX's website.  Who knows.  I don't keep track of if I catch them on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon, or the series websites.  Sometimes, I even use the bootleg sites.  All I know is that I only saw half a season and thought that was the end.

You didn't miss much, InnerSanctum if you did not watch the second half of the season.  My wife and I were looking forward to this before it started and found ourselves caring less and less after each episode.

Can't wait!  Loved the first season.  Thought it was very well acted and they kinda took the haunted house theme and gave it their own twist.  I love the concept for the series; I kinda had it figured out halfway through.  But I anticipated them starting the second season over with a new family moving in and seeing how their story unfolded.  I guess that would've just ended up getting old and played out.  Glad Jessica Lange is coming back.  She was one of the best parts of season one.
