After making a splash in the video game industry with his twisted take on ALICE IN WONDERLAND, video game producer/designer American McGee has sold the film rights to his next project before its release. McGee has been working on a WIZARD OF OZ game that incorporates the same kind of dark take that he brought to ALICE, released two years ago, and has now sold the movie rights to Jerry Bruckheimer Films and Walt Disney Pictures. Although the film has no definitive plan for when it will move into production, the screenwriting brother duo of Kevin and Dan Hageman are now working on the film's script. Disney and Bruckheimer envision the new OZ to be the first in a proposed trilogy of films.
McGee is also in discussions to close additional contracts for spinoff properties based on his OZ game, such as action figures, comic books or novels in the same universe.
A release date for AMERICAN MCGEE'S OZ hasn't as yet been announced.
