If you're the kind of person who likes to create music and spend lost hours playing video games, Sony's new AMPLITUDE bears checking out. The game allows players to test their skills remixing popular songs by a variety of artists through shooting musical notes and traversing through musical environments synchronized to the songs.

Developed by Harmonix Music Systems, AMPLITUDE continues the tradition originated by FREQUENCY by offering an impressive line-up of music stars and over 25 songs to remix. Artists included on AMPLITUDE include David Bowie, blink 182, Pink, Herbie Hancock, Run DMC, Dieselboy, Slipknot, Weezer, P.O.D., Garbage, Quarashi and Logan 7 as well as other up-and-coming groups.

One new feature found on AMPLITUDE is the option to play against other gamers online using the PS2's network adaptor. With this option players can upload their own unique remixes of a song for other gamers to play, as well as downloading others remixes. Sony promises that some of AMPLITUDE's bands will judge these remixes in the coming months and rate them.

AMPLITUDE has been rated Teen by the ESRB and can handle up to four players simultaneously. Find out what Cinescape video game editor James Stevenson thought of AMPLITUDE in his full review.
