A joint press release has been given to the media by the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Pictures and Television Producers indicating that they will resume discussions in hopes of resolving this strike. The statement says that there will be a media blackout on it until they're finished.

On Wednesday, January 23, the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers will begin informal discussions to determine if there is a basis for both parties to return to formal negotiations. Both the AMPTP and the WGA have agreed to make no public comments about the informal discussions until those discussions have concluded.

They better get this done quick, if they resolve it anytime before late february there is still a chance to get a full season of Lost in.

I am crossing my fingers too. Hope the writers get a good deal. I dont think I can wait till next september for HEROES.

Apparently they've decided to drop the issue of unionizing reality t.v. show writers. Not sure if that's a good thing considering the networks will probably just start to pump out more of them to offset the cost of any gains WGA obtains in new media market. We'll see.

If the strike were resolved in the next couple of weeks, I'm not sure if they would immediately start up production on all the interrupted shows. I would think they would just hold off 'til fall and start up new full seasons.

monkeyfoot,

EW had an article this week that said by ending the strike a few shows would get episodes done, they mentioned the remaining 8 eps of Lost, some new The Office eps, I believe Entourage also was mentioned.
I think the studios would jump in production right away and have some new stuff or the May sweeps.

It's also possible that should the strike end in February that they might do away with the usual summer hiatus this year and finish out all the shows then move directly into the new season in September as usual.

It is a shame that they gave the concession of not asking for the unionization of reality-show writers (as if they weren't writers) and writers for animated shows (that's right, America, keep treating these profitable and enjoyable shows as if they were "as good" or "as important" as live action shows) . . .

But it does go to show that the WGA is still willing to compromise (too much, IMO) and, in the end, the WGA should look out for its members first and try to help non-members second.
