Anchor Bay sold
DVD company specializes in TV shows, horror films By Patrick Sauriol
December 12, 2003
Source: IDT Corporation
Anchor Bay Entertainment, known to genre fans for producing numerous horror movies and boxed sets of television episodes on DVD, has been sold to IDT Entertainment, a multinational telephone and technology company.
There will be likely little or no visible change for customers who purchase Anchor Bay's product but the move may open the door for synergy with other IDT subsidiaries. Throughout 2003 IDT has been purchasing or buying interests in a number of entertainment companies such as Mainframe Entertainment (creators of the
SPIDER-MAN,
REBOOT and
BEAST WARS CGI series); Digital Production Services, which has purchased the rights for two Gene Roddenberry-created projects (
STARPOINT ACADEMY and
CHAR); Film Roman, the animation company; and a minority interest in Vanguard Animation, the company producing new CGI films for Walt Disney Pictures.
In short, it sounds like IDT is creating their own movie and TV production and distribution empire.
