No, this has nothing to do with the old game. This is a bit of comedy news which I usually don't do but seeing how there's seven different comedy news stories this morning and this one has at least some bit of outer space attached to its plot, I'll pass it along. Andrew Currie (director of the recent zombie comedy, Fido) is helming the project, SPACE INVADER, for Fox Atomic. Saturday Night Live Alumni Will Arnett will star and help produce the project.

Plot Summary: The story centers on Doug Huggins, the son of a NASA legend, who is terrified of flying. When Huggins learns that his girlfriend, a rising aeronautic star, has been chosen to fly to the International Space Station with Stamp, a spaceman who is God's gift to space travel, he must overcome his fears and travel to space to win her back.

Coupled with the Voltron article, I thought it was officially "make an 80`s cartoon/video game into a movie day"

So, it's not based on the great Space Invaders game of the 80's. That's too bad. Alien invasion movies are one of my favorites.

What a waste of a title.

I thought "Spaced Invaders" already wasted the title.

Regardless, with that title, there's going to be a lot of people thinking that this is going to be a space invasion movie based on a video game. Surely they can come up with a better title.

ok so the article makes no mention of Billy Connolly or which role he'll play, is he Stamp or Doug... or does it even matter?
does anybody but me remember Doug Barr (the Fall Guy) playing in Spaced Invaders? I loved that movie!!

This article is a joke, right?

I was hoping there were finally going to make the Space Invaders movie the Futurama guy wanted to do years ago.

On the face of it, I’d say this is a difficult concept to do right because this isn’t science fiction. This is a story that (apparently) has scenes on a real orbiting outpost and a real spacecraft. Everybody knows (or should know) what the ISS and the Space Shuttle look like inside and out. It’s on TV 24 hours a day on the NASA channel. This idea might work as a Saturday Night Live skit, but a whole movie? It’s going to very hard to make this come out any other way except lame. Lots of luck!
