What They Say
Zeus is a randy old god always trying to have a little fun behind Hera's back. Three pretty angels have caught his eye and he'll do anything to explore the possibilities of an angelic night of eros. But he's got to be sly or Hera will have his head. Perhaps it's time to put these angels through some challenges on Earth where Zeus might be able to go unnoticed.

The Review!
Zeus loves giving his angels a little something extra but Hera's always on his case. What's the god of gods to do?

For our primary viewing session, we listened to this show in its original language of Japanese. The stereo mix for it is pretty simple as there isn't a lot of action or effects needed since it's mostly dialogue driven. The couple of action effects come across nicely but most of it is center channel based since its moaning, groaning and the usual dialogue. This comes across nice and clear and we had no problems with dropouts or distortions during regular playback.

Originally released in 2004, the transfer for this OVA series is presented in its original full frame aspect ratio. This is simply one great looking transfer from start to finish with lush colors, detailed line work and no visible problems. Just about everything is on the mark here and with the visual quality of a recent high profile adult release, it simply shines on the screen. Colors are solid and free of blocking or cross coloration as well as avoiding any serious color gradient lines being visible. The transfer for this release will simply please.

Featuring a shot of two of the three main angels with their ears fully open and their flimsy light outfits flowing around them, the artwork is well colored here and the detail just right as it's very eye-catching and representative of the quality of the show itself. The back cover provides a look at all three of the angels set against a Greek backdrop and a nice strip of shots from the show that display the great character designs. The summary covers the basics of the premise while the bottom strip has the accurate details for the technical information. No insert is included with this release.

Using the artwork from the back cover with the three girls in a row, thy're lined up in front of various Greek-like symbols that are heavily hued in pinks and purples. The artwork looks good here with plenty of detail shining through and great looking colors and everything is set to a short little bouncy piece of music. With nothing else on the disc besides trailers and the show itself, it's easy to navigate around and access times are nice and fast. The disc correctly read our players language presets as well which was a welcome thing.

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
Angels continue to be a popular subject for the adult anime world but so many of them are just poorly done or plain that they're easily forgettable. Angelium actually manages to take the angel motif and runs with it in a fun and creative way and makes out by having a good budget so that the show even looks really good. It starts off with a big and bold piece about things happening before the dawn of time and all that fun and we get to settle in on Olympus where we meet the god of gods, Zeus.

Zeus has something of a problem though. He's just got to have tight young angel flesh. He can't do without it. But every time he gets involved with some angel, Hera finds out and kicks his ass all over the place. So when he's confronted with three new angels that are about to undergo their trials on Earth where they have to do good deeds, he's got a brilliant idea. While they're down there, he'll take over some mortal's body at key times and have his way with them and Hera will never know. And that in a nutshell is really the plot, though it does have some interesting points to it.

We're introduced to the three angels as they take on human identities in Tokyo and set about to finding themselves a job in a flower shop that gets very little business. The arrival of three young beauties drives up the traffic as they help the young woman who owns it, but she's faced with another problem. A couple of ruffians have been hired to scare them out of the place and into selling so they can acquire the land and build something bigger there. So the girls have to deal with threats from the thugs while trying to get their jobs done. In addition to the thugs, Hades has noticed that Zeus is channeling himself through a young man named Yasushiro who makes his way through the three angels and has his way with them and is convinced that Zeus is setting into motion a plan to attack him. So he sets about his own minions to deal with the situation by causing as much trouble as possible for Zeus.

Angelium's a highly attractive piece. The character designs are detailed and gorgeous, very attractive across the board. Their designs are just very appealing without being over the top in things like chest size and the like, though they're all well proportioned. The actual sex scenes are well done also with a good mixture of outright sex with no clothes to some scantily clad moments that add extra enticement. There is the addition of "sex beasts" that Hades minions use, which means some brief tentacle action, but even that felt like it wasn't out of place, especially since the entire tentacle genre has fallen off in the last few years.

In Summary:
Angelium was a really fun and enjoyable show that has the right mixture of comedy, sex and character designs. All the angels are highly attractive, the show has great detail to the artwork and its look is so lush and vivid that it blows away many mainstream series. With a simple but effective story and a diversity in action, this one is good for both people just getting into the adult world as well as those who've been around for awhile and may feel a bit jaded. This is the kind of release restores your faith in quality adult anime. Very recommended.
