What They Say

Featuring the voices of adult film stars Haven & Shayla LeVeaux. Akira Motoura, the former All-Japanese ace, commands the volleyball team of Aota Academy. He has a hard time adjusting to the team members who have many varied characteristics. He believes that students, these days, develop sexually at an extremely young age and very quickly. He is fascinated with the girls during the games. He gets sexually aroused watching them play. He is constantly having nasty fantasies but he does not regret it, for he is a man and a man has sexual desires. The Review!
Here's something new; sports hentai! Chalk up another title that features all consensual encounters and something without tentacles or demons. And it's pretty funny to boot!Audio:
For our primary viewing session, we listened to this disc in its original language of Japanese. As with other hentai of a similar nature, the show is essentially dialogue driven and uses primarily the center channel. In this respect, things are nice and clear and undistorted. The show features a rather amusing soundtrack for the music though, keeping things nice and light and almost fluffy feeling. There's some minor directionality across the front soundstage with the volleyball segments, but they're pretty minimal.Video:
While the production values aren't as high as some other recent Pink Pineapple shows, there's some very nice animation quality here that's primarily used for the character designs and animation. In particular, flesh colors look wonderful! Through both episodes/discs, we didn't notice any cross coloration or other problems. Colors are nice and vibrant, backgrounds are nicely solid and the look in general is great. At most we saw some minor jaggies during some panning sequences but that's about it.Packaging:
The artwork used for the cover packaging for this release is a bit more manga/painted style than anime cel oriented, which is a nice change of pace. The look is a bit softer but each of the covers does what it should; they show the girls in partial undress in their volleyball outfits. the back covers show several pieces of animation and give a good rundown of the episode contained on the disc. Features and technical information is also nice and clearly listed. The box itself uses the artwork from the second volumes cover while doing a combination of the two back covers for its back cover. As with all NuTech releases to date, there is no insert provided.Menus:
The menus for this release are actually pretty weak compared to past NuTech efforts. There's little of their meshing of animation and CG, instead just having one static image of the lead male with a small piece of animation playing beside him. On the plus side though, the menus are nice and fast and laid out in a quick to use way.Extras:
Two sets of the voice actresses video photo galleries are included here while the actual anime-related extra is a video image gallery with stills from the show.Content:

The day of hentai is changing folks, and this series is definitely proof. Again, it's another series with all consensual encounters but it's also sports anime! Even the mainstream anime production companies are only now just getting onto that bandwagon. Time to stock Angels in the Court next to Princess Nine and Battle Athletes Victory I'd say.
Angels in the Court focuses on an all-girls volleyball team and their coach, Mr. Motoura. Motoura's a former player on the All-Star Volleyball team and is one of those ideal kinds of coaches that can bring the experience to a school team. And for "real world" hentai, he brings something different to the show as well - a non-lanky doofy guy getting lucky with women. Motoura's got a good sense of humor, has rock hard abs and knows how to spend money on what's needed.
The team has a lot of work to be done on it to make it really be competitive, but Motoura's got them getting there. During one practice, the captain from a rival team and her coach show up and start talking trash to them about how they're going to win the upcoming finals. The coach from O-Ring has even made this personal as he has a grudge against Motoura from their time on the All-Star team.
Motoura doesn't even remember him. The entire competition thing doesn't even really register with him. He just wants a good team.
Motoura and his team from the Aota Academy have something of an edge though. After the weird captain and coach of O-Ring leaves, a new transfer student comes into the gym and goes on about wanting to be a manager. She points out all the flaws in the team, which means she doesn't become instant friends with them. But she challenges them back, but before doing so, she takes the coach outside.
For this new girl, Nanase, to play excellent volleyball, she needs to get really excited first. She gets the coach to get her going, but then runs back into the gym leaving him, um, blowing in the wind. She then promptly trashes the entire team. She's that good. But with this requirement, she doesn't play much anymore and prefers to just help coach.
The show then goes between bouts of training and various girls on the team seducing the coach, including a great threesome inside a karaoke booth. Though I do wonder where they got the rope. The coach also later beats up some threatening thugs and takes their wallets. He promptly goes to a massage parlor where he gets a half dozen women to bathe him properly. Man, talk about proper bathing...
Angels in the Court definitely falls under the light and fun category with good animation, a decent story, great character designs and a bouncy musical soundtrack. It also leaves you wanting more! The only downside is that the show only has one 30 minute episode a disc, but the tradeoff in quality may convince a few to be pleased with this.
