A new "animals versus man" horror thriller aptly titled Animals has been picked up by Columbia Pictures, says the Hollywood Reporter. The high-concept spec was written by newcomer Mike Sobel. Neal Moritz is producing via his Original Films banner. Trevor Engelson and Nick Osborne, who are executive producing, discovered Sobel, a former New York assistant district attorney who ditched his job and moved to Los Angeles a year ago to pursue a writing career. Engelson and Osborne helped Sobel develop the script and then brought it to Moritz.

Plot Concept: The horror thriller's central idea is that all the planet's animals turn on humans, from wild creatures to pets.

any one that sleeps in the same room as a dog and in the back of their head thinks somewhat of the dog as a protector, shoud be unnerved by this movie. I'm game for it. Sounds like Maximum Overdrive but with animals. gives me shivers.

That's why I only keep lemmings as pets. They're fun for a while and then go all suicidal on you later on...then LUNCH!

Haha Mr. Jaw. Nice one.

For some reason when I was writing this one up, I kept thinking of the Evil Deer in Slither. You know, one of those animals you wouldn't expect but could get really pissed off at man after a while..Unfortunately, I couldn't find a photo for that evil Deer who wants to eat Nathan...So I opted for a Mad Bear instead.

And holy shit, The Last Starfighter is coming on HBO right now. I haven't seen that in years..

I can see the jokes coming far and wide on this one. But hey, its gotta be better than those cannibalistic sheep in that whacked-ass "Black Sheep" flick.....can it? I hope. PLEASE!!

That was a baaaaad movie. That evil deer thing was funny as hell. Anyway I could just picture it. Lil Billy goes to feed his parakeet and the bird turns on him. "Mom!!!Pinky is pecking my eyes out! Help!" Meanwhile the nextdoor neighbor is running out of the house with the family cat stuck to his face while he's trying to pry it off.

Come to think of it, this could be a fun movie.

All I can think of is the home video of that dude getting attacked by the deer.

There is a regular on the Bob and Tom Show who does a weekly bit. He often humorously discusses his family or gigs. But often he talks about the Animal Conspiracy claiming that the animal kingdom is making a concerted effort to eliminate man. Naturally, it's a joke. It's pretty funny. I don't think I could watch this movie without thinking about that the entire time.

Was that Mike Birbiglia? I thought of that as I was reading the plot.

Actually it's Tim Bedore, and his bit about the 'Great Animal Conspiracy."

As soon as I read this, I thought of him, and sent him an email link to this page.

And like Tim, I blame the squirrels.
