Oct 3, 10 is an important day in Fullmetal Alchemist lore (10/3/11 in FMA: Brotherhood). This date, inscribed inside of Ed’s pocket watch as “Don’t Forget 3.Oct.10,” marks the moment when the Elric brothers began their journey by setting their childhood home ablaze, vowing to never turn back.
FUNimation wants to officially recognize October 3 as FMA Day, giving fans of the series a day to reflect on what FMA means to them. Some may see it as a solemn day commemorating the trials faced by the Elrics in their quest to become whole again. Others will think of it as a celebration, honoring the brothers’ determination in the face of adversity. When did you first see Fullmetal Alchemist? What about FMA has inspired you? What has given you pause? How will you observe FMA Day?
Mania is going to observe that day with a contest sponsored by FUNimation that has the following in it:
Now that's a nice way to remember the series to be sure, but what's a good way to remember what 10/3/10 is all about? By telling us what this series has done to impact your life in some way. We want to know if it's made an impact on you the way the brothers Elric had an impact on so many others and change their world. It can be a small thing, it can be a radical thing, but in a hundred words or more, tell us about it and we'll pick the best one to win this great prize pack from FUNimation.
How To Enter:
All you need to do to enter is drop us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject of "FMA" and tell us in a hundred words or more how Fullmetal Alchemist has changed your life. We'll award one winner from the pile on 10/06/2010 to help facilitate your June figure playing time. Be sure to include your address so we can ship it out ASAP! Entries with no address are discarded.
Congratulations: Congrats go out to Laura Hancock who won this contest!
"A few years back I was going through some really personal problems. My family was falling into shambles, my grades were slipping, and my grandmother had just passed away and we were dealing with the funeral. I was deep in the dumps and it seemed as if I were going to stay there unless someone was brave enough to pull me out. My saving grace didn’t come in the form of a prince on a white horse or a trip to the crazy house, but rather in the form of Edward and Alphonse Elric. I began watching Fullmetal Alchemist mostly because I was bored. But it turned out that FMA would be the very thing I needed. Watching and reading how the brothers were always so determined in everything they did and fighting for what they wanted inspired me to do the same thing. I studied more in school; got a part-time job cleaning yards and I did whatever I could to help my parents get through all the other crap that we were wading knee deep through. On October 3rd, I gathered all the old memories from when my world was at its worst and I burned them, the same way the Elric brothers burned down their home, signifying that I wasn’t going to go back to that life, and I was going to continue on and right my world once more. FMA helped me put the pieces of my broken life back together, and October 3rd was the day that changed everything for my family and Ed’s."
