[Q] - Question
[S] - Katsushi Sakurabi
[O] - Kaoru Ozawa
[Q] Is this your first time to Anime Expo?
[O] & [S] Yes
[Q] Were there any challenges in creating an anime based off a hentai / adult game?
[S] As far as coming from game to anime format, I have experienced that with Gunparade March before, so the technicality of it was familiar. The thing that was probably difficult was retaining the romance story.
[Q] If you could back and make the series longer (24-26 episodes), is there anything you would change in particular?
[S] Probably try explaining each character a little more in depth (the backbone of the character).
[Q] Did you try to follow the character designs in the game as much as possible or did you try to attempt something different?
[O] For every design, I brought on what was in the game. I didn't try to alter them, but I tried to make the designs a little more simplified and human.
[Q] Did you feel the game character designs were more manga style or unrealistic?
[S] In the beginning, we were very faithful to the game character designs. Because the romance quality of the story came in, I wanted to make it a lot more human in feel. At that point, I instructed Ozawa to create designs that were not bound by the game and try to make them more human.
[Q] What are you currently working on?
[S] Right now I'm receiving material for my next project and preparing.
[O] I'm not committed to any main artwork right now. I might get a request here and there, but nothing major.
[S] She's waiting for the next work.
[Q] Do you have any preference in terms of what genre of anime you like to work on?
[S] I feel that because of my livelihood, there isn't any genre I don't like. I pretty much like all of them. If I was to pick one weak area, it would be anything to do with mechanical stuff like robots / mecha (but that doesn't necessarily mean I don't like it).
[O] I really haven't had time to think about it, but I like shows with stories that have happy endings.
[Q] (Sakurabi) - How did you become a director?
[S] Just thru everyday effort and being trapped by producers.
[Q] (Ozawa) - How did you become a character designer?
[O] I was trapped too, by Mr. Sakurabi [*much laughter in the room*].
[Q] Is there anything in particular that you find inspiration from in your work?
[S] Just ordinary everyday conversation from people.
Thanks to the folks at Geneon and Bender/Helper Impact for setting this up.
