Anime Expo New York - Wolfs Rain Panel
By Andrew Tei
August 31, 2002
Toshiro Kawamoto stayed behind after the Bebop panel to give the audience a
preview of his new anime, called Wolf’s Rain.
Toshiro Kawamoto: I seem to be the left over from the previous panel. I was
able to get this last minute panel here. Last week, Bandai had an event called
the Emotion Festival. They made a two minute promotional clip for the
festival. This is not a normal thing, but they wanted the people in the US to
see it too. Episode one hasn’t been completed yet. I would be much obliged to
listen to what you think about it. As for the staff, Yoko Kanno composed a new
song just for the two minute film. And the person who sings it is Maaya
Sakamoto. So this is the short, but I hope you all enjoy in.
A song is being sung in English. I’ll do my best to describe what’s on screen.
I had to type this quickly in the dark so it will just be free flow thoughts.
A snowy field. We see a white wolf, laying down, with one eye open. A train
with guns comes across the snowscape, shooting at a team attacking it. We see
a scene with a long elvator shaft. We see a wolf on a leash. We see a bloody
white wolf in a cell. The nain protagonist seems to be a teen. He is
surrounded by light. Transylvania like scene at the end.
Sigh, I wish I had done that better. There was Japanese words on the screen
between each scene, so they showed it again with English subtitles!
Unfortunately, the subtitles were so low that people’s heads blocked the subs.
Here’s the quotes I got:
Why do I feel this urge
I hear someone's voice
Head towards paradise
When the world ends, paradise will appear somewhere
Only wolves can find the place
The wolves became extinct years ago, this is just a fairy tale
It was good, that “something” first showed the reaction
*missed line*
Yes, the smell of wolf's blood
Wolves bring death,
Don’t believe this heresy
I smell flowers, the scent of "something" flowers
I'm ...
TK: I'm currently in the production of a series about nature. The director was
one of the screen writers from Bebop. He drew the storyboards for more of the
important storyboards. This is the main work for people who were working on
Bebop. I don't even know what's going on plot wise yet, since it is not
concrete again. Thank you for coming.
