Anime Expo - Tofu Records Panel

By Jason Yeh     July 04, 2005

Tofu started the panel by asking a few questions from the audience regarding who is familiar with the company, then gave an introduction of the company's business (jpop/jrock cds, concerts, grass roots promotion). They mentioned their new street team program which anyone over 14 years old can join. Street team members basically help promote new releases from Tofu Records by distributing flyers and posting on-line reviews of their cds.

During the panel, they showed music videos on the monitors. Two of the newer artists they are currently promoting are Orange Range and Asian Kung-Fu Generation.

Tofu is re-releasing Nami Tamaki's first album, "Greeting" with extra tracks. They showed a PV for her "Heart and Soul" song that was filmed in the US. A couple more PVs followed, including one for POLYSICS and another for BOOM BOOM Satellites' song "Dive for You" (Appleseed movie song).

The L'Arc~en~Ciel: Live in USA R1 dvd is now available and contains a bonus disc that's not included with the R2. They showed a sample of the dvd of the group performing "Blurry Eyes" (DNA^2 OP song). L'Arc~en~Ciel's " Awake" album is coming out on 9/20 in the US. Tofu also showed footage of an exclusive US interview with the group.

Tofu also screened a video greeting of T.M. Revolution talking about his upcoming album, "Vertical Infinity", that's coming out in the US on 7/26. It comes with 2 discs, one of which is a bonus dvd.

Tofu then ran a trivia contest for prizes.

After the panel ended, I asked if they plan to release Nami Tamaki's 2nd album. Tofu will definitely bring it over, but they have yet to set a release date (hopefully early next year).
