Sir Anthony Hopkins starred as Van Helsing in the update of Bram Stoker's DRACULA. According to MTV, he's now crossing into the update of another historic genre film, the upcoming remake of THE WOLFMAN. While doing some press for his upcoming Slipstream, the actor confirmed that he's set to star opposite Benicio Del Toro in the update of the 1941 classic. This time, however, he won't be hunting the beast as he did in the update of the famed bloodsucker. No, MTV is reporting that Hopkins will be playing Sir John Talbot, the father Lawrence Talbot(Benicio). Andrew Kevin Walker wrote the screenplay for this remake and Mark Romanek is directing. Rick Baker is handling the make-up effects.

Plot Concept: Like the 1941 original that starred Lon Chaney Jr., the new film will be set in Victorian England. Del Toro will play a man who returns from America to his ancestral homeland, gets bitten by a werewolf and begins a hairy moonlight existence.

THE WOLFMAN hits theaters Feb.13, 2009.

Very kool, this adds even more credible star power to an already promising project. I can not wait for a trailer!

My only concern is that this needs to be a drama type of movie and by no means a Horror movie.

I really like the original and thought this movie was always typecasted with the Universal Horror Monsters. This movie was much more then that..It was almost a romance kind of movie...The relationship he had with the women....Great story...

You'd think that'd be a screenshot, but really it's a picture of him on Sunday morning, after partying hard on Saturday night.

Honestly, am I the only one who who thinks this movie will be ridiculous? Seriously, Benincio Del Toro really does look like a wolfman. What special effects could they possibly use?

Er, the original 1941 version was NOT set in Victorian England, even though every single article on the remake keeps saying so. People seem to be confusing THE WOLF MAN with an earlier Universal film, WEREWOLF OF LONDON (1935).
