Don't think Favreau will be directing a Marvel Studios movie after his falling out with IM2. Sure he starred IM 3 but starring doesn't involve the higher ups interfering and it's still a paycheck for him.

I  read an interesting article on how Marvel is proceding with directors for their movies (since Whedon). They are sticking with directors that have TV backgrounds. Why? Because their movies are not stand alone. They are like big episodes of a series and the directors come in and have to work with a staff of writers like TV land. Whedon. Taylor, Russo bros and now Reed. All have TV backgrounds.

Edgar Wright was hired prior to the whole MCU. James Gunn was the exception as I believe Marvel/Disney want the GotG to be stand alone (but still in the same universe)

ElBaz13, Wright got his start in TV as well with Spaced on BBC.  I'm still bummed out that Wright will not be doing this movie.  It was the only thing that had my interest in an Ant-Man movie, seeing his take on a Marvel character.

True but Wright didn't fit in since his Ant Man vision was a stand alone movie. After the success of the MCU, he had to do a rewrite. Then with more delays (to shoot The End), when he came back, he had to rewrite the script to coincide with phase 2 now.

@Elbaz13 They might intend for GotG to be a stand alone but I believe if its a hit that they'll spin it off into a separate franchise from the Avengers. I hope it is a hit, to show off the cosmic side of Marvel.

From what I gather, GotG is there to set up Thanos and the Infinity gems for Avengers 3. It's pretty smart as it establishes the main baddy way in advance.

I just don't think we're going to see the GotG land on Earth and team up with the Avengers.  The main idea is to have a cosmic type franchise and the only ties to Earth are Star Lord. Like John Chricton or Buck Rogers.

But you never know, maybe Marvel will pull off the first crossover movies. Meaning, Thanos does his bad guy thing on Earth. The Avengers fight him in their movie, meanwhile, the GotG arrive on Earth and fight Thanos' forces at the exact same time but at different location in GotG 2 or 3.  Kind of like those old school crossovers.

More times than not I'd love to take a big pie of shit and smack blancheck with it right in the face
