Marvelous.

This really, really. REALLY disappoints me. I thoroughly enjoyed the first box set and checked at least once a week since for some good news...

Wow, so they only grabbed 40 eps and what hoped a deal would come through for more.

Bye AE your now done as anything else you try to release if it isn't the whole thing at once people will just sit on waiting to see if you finish. Though I am sure your company has the ability to keep churning out titles hoping people will buy in the future right?

This is rather disappointing. I hope that they will still find a way to release the rest. It does make you wonder if they are done with anime. It just doesn't bode well even though they primarily release live-action titles.

April 29th, 2010 - Yawara Status Update

We know that many of you have been anxiously awaiting news about the future of Yawara. It is with deep regret that we must announce that so far, we have not been able to secure a license to release the rest of the series.

If conditions change and it becomes possible to obtain a license, we will certainly do so. Everyone at AnimEigo loves Yawara and wants to continue work on the series.

If they don't finish this there are done with anime as they are a company whose anime releases depend on a small but dedicated group of buyers and this news will not go over well. The might as well remove the Anim from their name then.

The phrase "churning out titles" and "Animeigo" are not compatible.

I wonder if the problem is on the Japanese end. From the sound of it, it's not for lack of trying to pick up more the show.

I still wouldn't hesitate to pre-order and buy more anime from AnimEigo despite this. This really sounds like the fault is not their own. Or were they supposed to do something that even FUNimation doesn't do and license all 129 episodes of the show. A twenty year old show. About Judo.

Yeah.

I saw this on twitter earlier today, sad to see, but we could look at it as them successfully releasing season 1 of Yawara at least. It sounds as if it wasn't an issue with sales or production issues, but just the japanese licensor not letting Animeigo get more episodes. Everyonelse licenses shows a chunk at a time in the current market, so it's not a big surprise that's what Animeigo did. Whatever happens, I'm still going to pick up the boxset when I get the chance to. I mean seriously, what other company would license Yawara? We're lucky we got what we did. And of course, they did finish ALL of Urusei Yatsura.

Hopefully, they can try again in the future, though maybe it'll be a chance to pick up other anime titles in it's place. Animeigo releases live action films pretty frequently, so a handful of OVA's, theatrical anime or shorter old TV series, or a license rescue might be nice to see. Something that's a smaller undertaking.

On the positive note, it's not like they just dropped the show. Their business plan was find. They didn't lose money on the show and probably made money on it. My thoughts are that circumstances beyond their control (such as Kitty selling off all it's anime rights) happened and whoever they have to talk to for the rest of the show doesn't want to work something out.

This isn't another show to add to the laundry list of shows a company has simply dropped because of low sales.

No surprise, sadly. I said in another thread that unlike their other shows, the first cover of AE's (now) only Yawara set did not state it was 1 of <#> , just that it contained episodes 1 - 40.

AE are no longer an anime licensing company. They are slowly giving up anime titles. Macross was fixed term, KOR has gone, OMG, Rupan III. I do not expect any of their remaining anime licenses to be renewed.

I do hope that Nozomi can licence the rest of Yawara TV, the Atlanta special (which finishes the manga story), & movie.

Time to revise my licence wish list.

Where is slerch666?

Makes me wonder how much longer Urusei Yatsura might be around. I have the first ten volumes. Methinks I should start picking up the rest while they're still readily available, in case something happens.

That's a good policy.
