Panel Time: Thursday, 7/1 @ 11 AM (PST)

Please post all Crunchyroll related AX news in this thread.

A CR panel huh?

Hrm, I have a feeling they won't actually announce simulcasts here, mostly because I'd be surprised if they were on the ball enough to have something announced before or right at airing. it'll probably just be to emphasize that they have Bleach now.

Still interested in seeing what they have to say, though.

Wait, if that time is right, this panel already happened?

Anyone know if they said anything of interest?

EDIT: As per bayoab, the panel is at 11am PST, so it starts now.

they will be announcing summer season shows next week.

I didn't know CR had an iPhone / iPad app. Just tried it on my 3GS w/ iOS 4 and the app keeps crashing every time I try to stream a video, lol.

They just said new summer titles are next week.

They are talking about scanlating manga!!!!

Android app! Hells yes.

Can't they make a iPad specific app (or make the existing app universal)? Upscaled from the iPhone app looks sucky.

So all in all, here is what we learned at the panel
__________________________________________

They are still doing good in terms of money.
New summer titles are going to be announced next week, with a press release about it tomorrow.
They are going to start putting manga and maybe simulcasting them on the site!

So, our first panel of the day is done! I look forward to more! :D

Hardly sounds realistic. Funi gets anime for simulcast as well.

But to answer the question, hell no.

The irony of this question is too much...
<bay|AX|CR> q: serious crackdown on fansubs and pirates in the coming months?

Well at least the panel was short. ;)

True, but at least there has been some progress compared to the bad old days.

Not a huge amount, but some.

Well, panel over. Nothing much to see here. Move along :)

I've gotten it to work on my PS3 before, but there's often a long delay before it actually starts playing the episode.

I have no idea what the problem is, but then I haven't used my PS3 to watch a CR video for a few months now. I hope they have done something to improve it.

They've rewritten the player recently and it loads about 10 times faster on the PS3 and computer now.

PS3 still can't decode the 720p stuff in real time though, since the flash implementation isn't properly optimized for the special PS3 architecture yet...

Oh jeeze, come on CR people. Even if it's just a pie-in-the-sky "goal", don't say things like that.

I love CR but they need to stop aiming for the moon on some things. No, they will never get 100%. They will never even get the 50% they claimed before. They do have the most of the current legit streaming services, which is nice, but I think they should set a goal of getting closer to double digits of new simulcasts in a season before they worry about 100%...

Nice to hear we'll get some announcements next week. Hopefully that means something better than "1-2 items next week with everything else 3, 4, 8 weeks later".

This has been a huge headache for me playing stuff using the CR app. The downloading is slow and at times, the video will continue with the subs going forward as usual, but without the video stalling.

This online manga thing is intriguing. Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll somehow be able to pick up series that got canceled by US publishers (come on, Eden). Although I guess that doesn't make much sense from a business standpoint....

I just realized I'm a bit disappointed nobody asked about the DVD/BD-only bonus eps of Sora no Woto and Durarara!! they said they would stream. Sora no Woto's came out a week ago. Which isn't yet a long time, but we haven't heard a peep out of them as to whether that's still going to happen.

That's right, I'd forgotten about that. Maybe the contract stipulates that it has to be a little bit after the home video release? But it's not like CR will work in Japan anyway.

It's good to see they'll be improving their mobile apps.

Same here. I'm still massively disappointed about that. Kureha ;_;

Only possible explanation for CR's forward looking statements: They have Kamina (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Gurren_Lagann_characters#Kamina) doing the number-crunching.

To be fair, its most likely a matter of when Aniplex (or whoever) decides they want to give them the episode.

In this case, ANN is misinformed. The DVD was released within days of the A-part streaming from the website. I watched my copy last week.

Well, I have the BD so it doesn't affect me--it's not like I would use the stream, even if they offered it. Also, I let my membership lapse
because the only anime they have I would watch is Fairy Tail. I'm not paying to watch one title.

Well now after checking The Anime Network I see that they're streaming Maid-sama, which makes me think Sentai will release it later on, which is great news for me.

I assumed that the reason Crunchyroll didn't get certain series was that someone else picked them up first.

I was hoping for announcements at AX like last year, but considering what was actually announced last year (and this past season, which was MUCH bigger than any summer season), I'm prepared to be disappointed.

I'm still hoping for Digimon, but I'm not expecting anything.

Let's see: Funimation has Sengoku Basara 2, Legend of Legendary Heroes, and Sekirei 2. TheAnimeNetwork site had High School of the Dead. Hrmmm. I'm only planning on watching Strike Witches 2, so the simulcast options are still batting at 0.000% for me.

I think each licensor should announce which simulcast they will do for any season at least 36 hours before it airs in Japan. CR, I look at you especially because you have this bad tendency to announce simulcasts days or even a week after the show debuts. Personally, of all the shows they got for the fall season last year including ongoing shows, the two best were Fairy Tail and Erin.

You don't think they would if they could?

I agree that both sides of the Pacific need to get their shit in order and lock these deals up earlier, but it's not like anyone is intentionally holding announcements they could have made earlier, and episodes they could have released on time.

The 4th isn't a holiday in Japan though, and thats what screws things up.

American Holidays are pretty much inconsequential.

Edit: On the other hand, it occurs to me that the 7th is Tanabata
