Panel Time: Saturday, 9:30 PM.

Last year, MG had some pretty good announcements with Higurashi and Shuffle. What's in store this year? Personally, I'm interested in knowing the release date for D.C. ll, if the physical copies sold well, and which VN/RPG they plan on releasing. It would also be nice if they do something with Frontwing, because they have pretty character designs.

Looking at some of the Frontwing games, I have to agree. Hopefully Mangagamer will release some of their games. I'm also looking forward to news on D.C. II (I still need to finish the first one though ).

Same here. I thought I read on ANN once that it was coming out in June, but that was clearly not true. Sure hope they'll release it soon. I've wanted to play that game for like, ages.

They're selling LE copies of Higurashi and KiraKira at AX and Otakon if they don't sell out. Testing the waters, so to speak. As for D.C.ll, they officially confirmed they were going to release it a couple months ago. KoiHime needs to come out first though.

When I heard that they were selling LE copies of Higurashi at AX, I cried inside.

I also missed an opportunity to get a physical copy of the VN when it didn't occur to me to ask my sister to pick it (and Seakitties) up for me when she was in Japan last month. AKGFDSJFH

It's pretty easy to import (Japanese) physical copies of 07th Expansion games from sites like Paletweb and HimeyaShop. That's where I got my copies of Umineko.

I've heard of those places, but won't the shipping be up the wazoo? That's why I've never considered importing them.

For Palet Web, yes. AmiAmi-where I got Umineko-has cheaper shipping. For Higurashi, you really should just buy the translated version.

Speaking of, MG's twitter had a reference to talks with AAA. Perhaps the day may come when their all ages versions can be bought.

Based on Twitter conversations , at least four spoilers will be annouced tonight. There are also going to be surprise guests. It will be pretty difficult for MG to top Nozomi and Bandai this year, but I can think of a couple things that could do it.

Hey guys I'm a total newbie to Mangagamer and the other companies. I'd like to start getting some games but I have to buy an new CP soon and I'll most likely be running Windows 7(and currently I use a MAC and no bootcamp to windows) and looking at their site the games are listed for XP and Vista. Would they play on 7? Or are they going to do an update to the games for 7?

I believe Something uses W7 and that MG's games do work. In general, some VNs will work fine, especially newer ones. Others require a patch or you have to buy the W7 version. I'd recommend testing the free demos, many of which are translated. If they work, the games should too.

Yeah, all the Mangagamer titles I've tried on Win7 have run fine.

I have a few purchased and downloaded but not installed yet, though (Suika, Edelweiss, Edelweiss EF, Kira Kira Curtain Call). I have no doubt they'll work fine, just as Da Capo, Shuffle, and Kira Kira did.

Good to know that they'll more then likely work. Right now I'm interested in Shuffle and Kira Kira.

I used SAL for Episode 4, and the shipping was only $6 USD. I guess that's a bit much for one DVD-sized case, but it's not too bad when it also comes with Episodes 1, 2, and 3. It's like 40 hours of playing time right there.

Just don't get EMS and you should be fine. Himeyashop's shipping is kind of weird, though, in that it has a huge base fee and then very small costs for additional items: it's heavily weighted towards encouraging large orders with lots of items.

I was interested in Kira Kira after reading this thread, but then I saw at their booth that it's some all ages version.

It's a cool setup they have at the booth though since they brought the singer for the theme song & have several original artists doing commissions $30 for b&w or $60 for color.

They sell both versions digitally. Although, you're not missing much without the ero.

I think it's a pretty bad idea, but OVERDRIVE can write whatever story they want. Maybe it will attract some new blood. VNs aren't exactly anime productions, so it wouldn't be a huge loss if it flops. I'm not sure the kind of people who play these games need an introduction to Japan though...

I don't think an OELVN by a Japanese company is an inherently bad idea. But, I think they should hire Native English-speakers for the scenario writing, and leave the art and character design to the Japanese side.

From what I gathered they wanted to make an original game that would introduce English fans to Japan, so I assumed it'd be set in Japan but the main character would be a foreigner and hot girls would introduce him to the Japanese culture. If it were like that it would be fun I think.

22:31:26 <bay|AX|Mangagamer> We've also like to release a game here on MG only, and not in Japan
22:31:41 <bay|AX|Mangagamer> tororo: How many people have gone to Japan?
22:32:08 <bay|AX|Mangagamer> Because a lot of people haven't been here, I want to make it like a digital study abroad through a bishoujo game system
22:32:44 <bay|AX|Mangagamer> We hope people take the time to check it out and if it's successful we'll produce more of it
22:33:03 <bay|AX|Mangagamer> We'd like to actually sell it at AX next year so you got something to look forward to

It could be useful for marketing, I guess. I doubt I'd learn anything myself. Also, give my utter distaste for how VNs portray non-Japanese people or even Japanese characters who studied abroad... It might annoy me. Certainly, we need more paying customers, and perhaps anime/manga fans are it. VNs fans are, for the most part, a bunch of pirates.
