The cover art goes well with the Complete Collection/Anime Legends cover art, but not so well with the original volumes in my opinion. I'm partial to the original Japanese art, but this is just as nice. It's still a day one purchase for me regardless of delays.

How do you know it's a STACKpak? Season 1 (AL) is not a STACKpak. It's a keepcase release.

I'll just say it briefly because I'm sure the majority knows how I feel: It's a shame they won't be releasing this in HD on Blu-ray and therefore will not be seeing my money. :( (I actually do mean it... I'd rather spend $80 on a US release than $300+ on a Japanese import, but apparently Bandai Entertainment doesn't want my money.)

Well, I think no matter which you buy Bandai or Bang Zoom at least gets some money. It's their dub on that collection, they produced it. They should get something for it.

Which is ultimately a given. The fewer "releases" a series is spread across the fewer representative images that you can have. Often times you end up having to represent the series with a single image. Which either means a group image or an image of one of the more important and/or popular characters in the series.

Group images have a danger of being too busy. The more characters in the image the higher the danger. Where as in the other scenario there will always be the "They should have used a different character" or "They should have used a different image of that person" crowds.

I too was hoping for an Ito cover like the R2s and the first LEs, but this fits with their "Complete Collection" and "Anime Legends" covers better, which is good for getting new people to purchase both seasons at once. If you were to pick one of the 8 LE covers from the Japanese set, which one would you choose for the set: Young Haruhi, one of the Yukis, Mikuru, Koizumi, or Kyon? None of those would be a good image like the Ito art for the first Limited Edition (which they had already used). So when in doubt, go with the placeholder art.

I pre-ordered mine for around $35. You might not find for that cheap; but if you look around online, then you won't pay anywhere near $60. Also, from someone who bought all the LE's for season one with the really nice artwork, this is a massive "sigh, they just don't make them like they used to anymore" in terms of releases. Not that it's a bad thing or anything. It's definitely nice that it's cheaper on the whole and I'll probably get the bluray if/when it gets released in the US.

That's the promo/solicitation art. For those that don't buy R2s, when volumes are solicited, retailers are usually provided with a promo image. The actual coverart is generally posted a month or two before the actual release.

The character designs drifted between seasons. You'll feel like that the entire time you're watching the second season. Even more so if you watch everything in in-story chronological order.

I tend to agree with you. Kinda harsh to spend $50 at retail for 8 episodes of actual content (I count Endless Eight as being "worth" 2 episodes of content at best.) Wait for a really good sale is my advice.

As was mentioned before, the placeholder image art for the Japanese "Bluray Complete Box" is the same used for this edition (but cropped and with a different background from Bandai). The Japanese one will likely change when we get closer to the release date to the official art. This set probably won't change its cover art.

Heh, I'm not sure I'd put Itsuki that high. Then again, now that I think about it, I'm not sure how I'd rank them at the moment.... Although I will say he's one of the stronger examples of a major male character. Mainly because he can be amusing, has sometimes interesting dialog, and helps carry the story.

As opposed to certain other males that either spend their time trying to annoy the viewer to death or serve the purpose of being dead weight designed to drag a show down.

Honestly, I'm probably going to ditch this box all together, find a couple 3 disc cases, and re-organize these with the disc's in my super pretty S1 LE set, since through the pure virtue of Haruhi-ism, all of the episodes (except 00) break up by disc at the right spots to fit these in.

I'll just put my Haruhi order disc's in the first couple cases, and Kyon order disc's in the last couple cases, voila!

Ah, I wasn't aware of Itsuki's name retention, since Kyon gets -ko'd. I guess that without looking at pictures, I wouldn't have noticed that there were two swaps instead of only one. ^_^

It's read the same, but female Itsuki's name is written with different kanji. :)
