It's a bit of an awkward-looking cover, but at least it's using artwork that we haven't seen before and Rei should get a good focus on this set.
Also, I was expecting something around 3-4 months between each set.
I got the first set for dirt cheap. I will continue to pick the rest of the series. As for the cove, it seems a bit bland. Then again I would have picked it up regardless of what it looks like.

It looks like a Beavis and Butthead cover.
I'll still get it though, doubt it'll have a dub but oh well. The only language Kenshiro needs to speak is head exploding.

Not a series I'm really interest in, but I still think they could have done better with the cover.
Wow, this cover is atrocious. You'd figure there'd be some other cover they could have used besides this poor image of angry Kenshiro and Rei. Nonetheless, a series worthy of being picked up.

Not an especially amazing cover, but I'll be getting it when it comes out.

Can't believe that they have an actual cover for part 2 as soon as TRSI has a preorder date im going to reserve this as soon as possible.

Well, for sure that's not very good. But again it doesn't really matter here. This is an absolute MUST buy!

Is this legit cover/promo art or did they just take a shot from the TV show and slap it on the cover? Well, whatever the case I find the cover amusingly bad, but as others have said this is an instant buy.

Sort of a sedate cover for this show but I think just about anyone buying the show already knows it features some of the manliest men in anime doing manly things.
Of course, I'm in for the box on release day.

Not a great cover but considering I picked up the first volume for $28 (Borders w/40% discount) I'll probably end up picking up the entire series.

Seriously, even if they didn't get enough material there is no reason to take such a crappy screencap from the show and call it a day. Even the 7 years old Manga-covers looked better...

Yeah, not the nicest looking cover, but I'm buying it anyway. The first set's already on its' way, and I can't wait to watch the thing.

It's....interestingly dull. How about some blood splatter or blood covered body parts or something to spice it up?

Agreed. Cover art for this show is negligible to me, but it still would have been nice if they could have found something more...dynamic...to be used for the cover art.

Crappy cover... but a buy nonetheless...my first set should come in the mail tomorrow

Good news, it's a cover art we haven't seen before. Bad news, it's a horribly uninteresting one.

Wait till you see the screenshots they picked for the back cover.

Wow this cover is epicly boring. I've never watched this show, but I am interested in it. So many episodes though! :(

Not the best possible cover for First of the North Star, but will take it anyway since i am more interested in how they handle the quality of the release (picture, audio...etc).

Has almost a Media Blasters volume 2 like feel to it, in terms of Go Lion or Dairugger. Some serious, how did they choose that without a dart board. Though honestly if it was in a cardboard box with sharpie, it would still be in my collection.

Pretty much, my thoughts on this cover. Way too bland for my tastes.

It's slightly annoying but not a series killer. Do people sit around looking at the cover all day? If the content is good it could come in a brown paper bag (and in my case often does ;)) for all I care.

While having a nice cover is great. I think for this series, it's probably not as important (at least for me). It's more important that the release will be coming out...

Or maybe, I like the show, and want it to have the best presentation possible.
This is not a 'one or the other' issue. We can have both good cover art, and the show.

FWIW, enlarged flat cover art added to the first post...

Considering that Manga also tended to use screencaps for their (halted) release of the TV series, using this type of cover isn't too unprecedented.
It may not be fancy, but it works for its purpose. Having official R2 DVD artwork would have been nicer, but I'm not complaining. After all, beggers can't be choosers. ;)

The fact that i'll be buying all the sets when they're out is a done deal for me. I am now starting to wander and hope that they would pick the New Savior Saga after they're done with the TV series.

I am now starting to wander and hope that they would pick the New Savior Saga after they're done with the TV series.
What is the New Savior Saga?
It's a series of 3 movies and 2 OVAs (2 movies for Raoh, 1 OVA for Yuria, 1 OVA for Toki, and 1 movie for Kenshiro that takes place before the main story) that were made during a few years ago that retold some portions of the story and expanded on other portions. For example, Jagi is pretty much retconned out of existence in them, and Legends of the Dark King is more of a prequel to the first Raoh movie than the series in general.
The quality of the series is mixed, but overall it's pretty solid. Personally, though, I would love to see the Fist of the Blue Sky TV series brought over more.
Also, Discotek's website has a new version of the Set 2 cover art (http://discotekmedia.com/fist_box_set_2.htm). Not much, but the fallen enemies is nice touch overall.

Ah okay, I had heard about the newer movies that retold some of the series, didn't know they were referred to as New Savior Saga. I would love for those to be brought over, along with Blue Sky (though I've heard mixed things about this one). More FoTNS is always good, and seeing the old story in newer animation quality would be cool.

Discotek Media confirm TV Set 2 details!!
Hi guys! For those interested in the second Discotek Media set, It has been confirmed to me today that the set will be using the official Toei animation subs, with the name errors and alike fixed! I dont think we could ever forget the famous “You don’t even know you are already dead!” thankfully, as in the first set, this has been shortened to the famous “You are already dead!”. Contrary to some beliefs, the set will NOT be dubbed, and won’t contain any extras like the first. Many thanks to Discotek Media’s Selby for this information. I hope to obtain a copy of this set at the earliest back end of next week, so I’ll be doing a video review as and when I can.

I don't mind this being sub-only, since the Japanese actors carried the show nicely. I'm just glad that Discotek fixed Toei's scripting shenanigans. Thanks, guys! :)

Akira Kamiya is the true and only Kenshiro.
I've noticed... in almost every show where Kamiya has a role, there is bound to be at least one FOTNS reference. City Hunter has a Kenshiro poster. Sgt. Frog has the Pekopon ball that goes "ATATATA" and punches with a flurry of fists for example.
