Just sold my ADV copy in anticipation. Definitely always a fan of this cover art.

EDIT: I hope this means a solicitation is coming very soon.

I already own the ADV copy.
I might pick this up eventually just to have the Bang Zoom dub.

Loving the cover. ^^ Wish it had ADV's English dub included in it, though. :(

Hmm, we still don't have a firm release date yet, do we? Last I check, it was late September/early October (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2010-08-13/crunchyroll-adds-shinkai-5-centimeters-per-second-dvd), and that's barring any possible delays that might occur.

If I can get it for relatively cheap on sale somewhere, I dunno, what the hell, I might buy it to complement my ADV release of the film... I do like that choice of coverart.

Nice cover, if a bit heavy on white space up top, which makes the non-color coordinated logos pop out too much.

It's not too bad, but I much prefer the ADV cover, especially the cover scheme. Also, the company logos should be at the bottom. They distract too much in their current location.

Regardless, I won't be getting this as I have a couple copies of the ADV one. The fact that it includes only the inferior Bang Zoom dub is a big negative.

It's the same cover Madman used on their release last year, however Madman also included the old ADV artwork as a reversible cover.

This is spec'd out to be double-sided cover. :)

Very nice to hear (I suppose the reverse may be the one with the image from ADV release, which, IIRC was from a poster or the standard JP DVD release). This box art is from the regular JP DVD release (http://www.cwfilms.jp/5cm/dvd.htm) (EDIT: oops, beaten to it ^^; ), for anyone wondering. Any chance of a release for that great, loaded box set in the future?

On the flip side, as nice as it is, I think this version would've looked better if the title mirrored the pink lettering and looked a little more dynamic, and also if the more distractingly-colored logos of Bandai Ent's (red) and especially Crunchyroll's (orange) were in a white border at the bottom (similar to the aforementioned DVD box cover).

It was also used with the DVD LE releases from Hong Kong, Korea, and Taiwan. It's an artwork that has been utilized quite a bit already (in a good way).

Same here: I have no intention of selling my ADV DVD at this point (as I greatly prefer their dub over the Bang Zoom one).

Not gonna happen, dude - they've already stated that there won't be a BD release in the US, more or less due to the "reverse importation" fears that Japanese distributors have.

Considering Region B territories are getting a BD release for The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, I wonder if the reverse importation fears potentially don't apply and we'll see a release for 5cm Per Second as well...

Well...

While it's been solicited on Amazon for ages, feedback from MangaUK (http://twitter.com/mangauk) is that thee UK Blu-ray for 5cm/s is still indefinitely delayed, for the same reasons as in the US.

When I asked for an update about the Amazon listing a week ago I was told "It's a guestimate I'm afraid coz Licensor will not allow us to release on BD until after Japan. You have no idea how fed up I am" and when I pointed out it already had been released years ago the reply was "They want to protect Japan from parallel imports even though we're Region B!". In response to whether they could just release the DVD now and the BD later: "I suppose, but releasing BD after DVD = very poor Blu-ray sales."

There's been a new round of tweets today however:

"Quick Straw Poll! Will you buy #5CmPerSecond if it is DVD only on 28th March? Blu-ray looks unlikely I'm afraid."
"Thanks for your feedback folks. V.useful. V.sorry we cannot deliver a UK BD of #5cmPerSecond for you all. :("

(From our Maehara: "@MangaUK Are we talking Blu-ray eventually, or no Blu-ray at all? I'd *really* want it on Blu if possible...")
"Eventually yes, but no idea when. Certain amount of unreasonableness going on here from Japan side."

"I think the Japanese distributor is afraid of Region A imports hence the 2 year long holdback. Can't do anything about it."

Seriously? That's pretty ridiculous. Back when I was buying anime DVDs like crazy, I said I didn't care about Blu-Ray because the borders are ugly, but I'd (specifically) buy 5 Centimeters Per Second on Blu-Ray. Granted, I've come to care less about the borders, but this is the one title I really want on Blu-Ray above all else. Really stupid.

I quite like this cover, though I already own the ADV release and there will be no Blu-Ray release in the foreseeable future, so I'll pass.

I never did get around to buy the ADV release, so I'll pick up the CR disc (and I'll likely double-dip for a BD). I haven't heard the ADV dub, so I don't have a point of comparison with the new dub, and I might have never got around to listening to it even I had purchased the ADV disc.

Unless it is decided that the old ADV dub will be included as an extra I won't purchase this unless it is really cheap. I have the orginial ADV release and I am happy with it for now. But I might pick this up later just for the BZ dub (again when it is very cheap).

I'll be getting this eventually although I think the cover is a bit blah. Too bright and kinda dull in my opinion but that's not the point. I enjoyed the Bang Zoom dub version of 5cm and am VERY glad to be able to have a chance to own it. I've had the ADV version since it first came out more or less but I liked this version too and I want to encourage Crunchyroll's involvement with physical media.

So, I was going to buy some CDs from Bandai-Ent's store... and, adding the ~$17 sale-price 5cm DVD didn't increase the overall shipping cost for the order, so I did it, I double-dipped and pre-ordered it through Bandai's Store... I'm also curious how good the service from their online store will be...

I have to admit, the coverart, the promise of remastered video, that listed bonus content... it was just too tempting.

Good to have a potential release date. Already paid for my order back in September or October (PayPal).

Oh wow, so this might actually get released after all? I hope it actually happens this time. Did they cancel everyone else's pre-order, too? That works for me, since I'm going to have a different credit card anyway. Of course the one day I don't have one is when this goes back up and Right Stuf starts their next big sale. Oh well, I can wait one more day for all my new pre-orders.

No, they never did cancel the pre-ordrers. My order from late September is still open.

Did you change the drop-box to "Orders Placed in the Last 6 Months" in the "Review Orders" part of your account?

12 months. Still not there. The Gurren Lagann movies from April, Haruhi-chan/Churuya-san part 1 from October, and part 2 from 2 days ago, but no sign of 5 Centimeters Per Second.

Odd. I guess you'll just have to re-order 5cm then. BTW, you're a brave soul for ordering Haruhi-chan Vol. 2 when there's a very good chance that the JPN audio has been screwed up just like Vol. 1 and Haruhi S2...

Yeah, I'd have to re-order it anyway because of my card, so it works. I just searched for the Bandai Store in my email, and sure enough, the email confirmation for it is right there from September. I hope I didn't pay for it with PayPal, but I don't think I did.

Yeah, I know about the Haruhi-chan thing, but it's not a release I care much about anyway. I'm basically just getting it to have a complete Haruhi anime collection.

This should be the response that people should be getting if they didn't pay via PayPal.
We experienced a glitch in our system that affected pre-orders that were left for an extensive period of time such as what occurred with 5 Centimeters Per Second. All orders except those that were paid through PayPal were automatically canceled.

We ask you to place your order again. Also, we noticed you used points to pay for some of the product, we will make sure that transfers over to your new order. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Sincerely,
Bandai Entertainment

Well, that means I'll have to pay shipping all over again... put together an order back in September just so I could get 5cm, the other items were not wanted as much... so I'd incur shipping charges again if I were to re-order.

Screw it. I'm happy with my ADV release, and will wait for Godoh... I mean, wait for the Blu-Ray release.

Hmm, that's strange. I guess I'm in the minority here: I paid with a credit card but I can still see my order in my account. (It still says "Processing.") And I made my pre-order back in September too. :sd: Am I the only one here?

As the link indicates, it's available at the Bandai store for now. It will likely be made available to their storefront @ Amazon.com Marketplace.

Nothing wrong with either of those, and more power to you for being able to enjoy the discs right now instead of having to wait for a fix that may or may not be coming, for a problem that should never have occurred in the first place.

Received my copy today. Reversible cover. No booklet. I have not watched the DVD yet though I have owned the ADV release.

It's kinda hard to utilize Shinkai's art and *not* have it look great :P

After all my difficulties with the Bandai store, and having already waited a LOOOOOONG ass time already, I figure a few more months won't kill me, so I set my pre-order in at TRSI.

That's true. Oh well, I guess I'll just take clear keepcase from something that doesn't really need it and do a swap :)

The ADV release had these extras (Interview with director Makoto Shinkai & the Japanese voice cast and the making of 5 Centimeters Per Second montage) and a different English dub.

And just compare it to this post (http://www.mania.com/aodvb/showpost.php?p=1830637&postcount=36).

Does this have the ADV dub as well, I know sometimes that if a movie has two dubs they will put both on the disc but not promote the old dub.
