Per this news entry (http://www.mania.com/crunchyroll-gains-16-kadokawa-series-for-streaming_article_125176.html) it looks like we know the first three Fall series CR has acquired:
Sora no Otoshimono: Forte (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=11659)
Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=11605)
Fortune Arterial: Akai Yakusoku (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=11425)
Per this article (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2010-09-15/crunchyroll-adds-squid-girl-kaminomi-letter-bee-2) they've also picked up:
Shinryaku! Ika Musume (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=11421)
Tegami Bachi Reverse (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=11600)
Kami Nomi zo Shiru Sekai (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=11571)
Per this press release (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/press-release/2010-09-15/super-robot-wars-og/the-inspector-coming-to-crunchyroll) they've also picked up:
Super Robot Taisen OG: The Inspector (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=11760)
And like with the summer thread (http://www.mania.com/aodvb/showthread.php?t=101240), Fall season discussion of what CR licenses or doesn't license will go in this thread.
Continuing series:
BLEACH
Fairy Tail
Hime Chen! Otogi Chikku Idol Lilpri
Mainichi Kaasan
Naruto Shippuuden
Really, really hoping they pick up the continuation of Yumeiro Pâtissière, Yumeiro Pâtissière Professional.

It's nice to see Crunchyroll announce these well ahead of time for a change.
Fortune Arterial is one I was planning on watching, so I'm happy to see Crunchyroll get it.
I'm planning on watching Sora no Otoshimono Forte as well, but that will depend on whether or not I actually get around to watching the rest of the first season in the next two weeks or so.
I might try an episode of Panty and Stocking, but all signs are pointing to it not being my thing.

Sora no Otoshimono was expected, but it probably won't last long before Kadokawa takes it down to give it a better chance of being licensed like the first series. In fact, that's probably the case with at least all of these simulcasts. I don't know about the 13 older ones. Hopefully more licensors decide to let all their new series be simulcasts this season.

I'll be sure to watch:
Sora no Otoshimono Forte
Fortune Arterial
And 13more series from Kadokawa wonder what it will be...

It will be curious to see what those backlog series mentioned in the article end up being. As for the new stuff?
I have a definite interest in trying Fortune Arterial. Mostly due to the designs. I just have to hope designs aren't the only thing it has going for it.
Sora no Otoshimono Forte will depend on how I feel about an additional season of the show. A show that did get better, but started off bad.
Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt will depend on whether or not curiosity motivates me to see the "WTF" in the context of a full episode. The preview has me mixed.

It's possible it could end up being similar to Strike Witches 2 (also a Kadokawa property) where Crunchyroll is doing the simulcast but FUNi will later announce the license to it (so there will be a home video release later).
I'm hoping the deal may mean the first series of Sora no Otoshimono will be back on Crunchyroll (or else FUNi decides to start streaming it soon) so I can actually finish the series before starting the second series. I definitely think I'm interested in seeing it, though.
I don't have high hopes for Fortune Arterial or Panty & Stocking, but I think I'll be trying at least some of them out.

Nice, I didn't watch the first season of SoraOto (was that locked in the UK? Could have been the reason), but I'll be watching the other two. Good start CR! Now let's see if you can eventually get up to the ridiculous levels of awesome (for me, anyway) that you reached this season.

I like to see the relationships between Japanese companies and simulcast players becoming more formalized. It feels much better to know that Funi will air upcoming Noitamina shows, or CrunchyRoll will air Kadokawa shows, then having to live in vagueness.
The press release also says "the back catalog offerings of Kadokawa Pictures will be greatly expanded as well, with the 13 additional series from the Kadokawa Pictures library of anime titles." But the Kadokawa page right now only shows 6 titles: http://www.crunchyroll.com/publisher/kadokawapictures. I wonder what those additional ones will be, and if any of them haven't been simulcasted/streamed/licensed before?
Regarding these specific titles:
- I'll definitely be watching Panty & Stocking.
- I don't usually like eroge adaptions, but I do like the character designs of Fortune Arterial. I'll at least try the first episode.

Wow, holy shit, really? They're up to 7 already. That's fantastic, especially because I plan to watch 5.
Ikamusume, Kami Nomi zo Shiru Sekai are definite watches and Tegami Bachi managed to be just tolerable enough, especially at the end, that I'll give the second season a chance.

I haven't seen any of the Super Robot OG franchise, but I am interested in getting into it. So I also cared about this, probably more than any other title in that second wave.
The trailer looks pretty good. I can't quite tell if they're doing frame-animated mecha, or it's just reeeally well-integrated CGI.

Heh just got done adding that to my top post.
It seems pretty likely. I bet Quarkboy could spill the beans if he desired. :sd: That would bring them up to 6 Fall shows. Granted, Fall is a bigger season so I'm hoping they can get twice this much... but even just another 3-4 I want to watch would be really really good.

Kami Nomi
Super Robot Wars OG: The Inspector
Squid Girl ( Ika Musume)
Tagami Bachi 2
*reads ANN article* Ooooooh, Kami Nomi is The World God Only Knows. I think I've heard some sort of abbreviated version of the Japanese title before, but it wasn't Kami Nomi, so I had no idea what that was. That's one of the titles I'm looking forward to the most this season (after Index 2 and OreImouto), as I've been hearing good things about the manga for a year or two, so I'm thrilled to see Crunchyroll get it.
I already mentioned Super Robot Wars OG: The Inspector. I know nothing about Squid Girl, but the title interests me. I never mustered up the interest to finish Tegami Bacchi's first season, and I certainly don't feel like trying to do it in the next few weeks, so I'll be passing on Tegami Bacchi 2.

Wow. It looks like the list got updated. Let's see what we have to work with here. May as well take it one title at a time.
Sora no Otoshimono: Forte (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=11659)
The first season started terrible, but eventually got better. Thus that puts it under consideration.
Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=11605)
Again, depends on whether or not I'm curious enough to see how WTF it will really be.
Fortune Arterial: Akai Yakusoku (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=11425)[/list]
Thy designs call me to try it. I just hope it's a respectable adaptation and the source material has something going for it.
Shinryaku! Ika Musume (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=11421)
Yes! This is one of the titles I've been looking forward to. Especially after reading some of the manga. Let's just say it's going to be a fun series. Assuming the anime is a good adaptation of course.
Tegami Bachi Reverse (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=11600)
Considering the fact that I didn't hate myself enough to finish this, I'm not even going to bother with a second season. Sorry, but Niche wasn't enough to make up for the annoying aspects.
Kami Nomi zo Shiru Sekai (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=11571)
I'll likely try this out. Hopefully unlike the manga, I won't fall behind on it. Although I have to ask myself. Why did I fall behind?
Super Robot Taisen OG: The Inspector (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=11760)
Why not? It couldn't hurt to give it a try. I just hope certain reasons and by reasons I mean characters get a good amount of focus.
As for the continuing series, I'm mainly watching Mainichi Kaasan and Hime Chen! Otogi Chikku Idol Lilpri. Now if only the latter would remove it's greatest flaw. Aside from that the show has been a decent side series.

There's very strong speculation that it will end because some series of Bakugan has taken over it's time slot for the Fall season, and that there's been no announcement of a new time slot yet.
My point is simply that it's not a definite for next season, so I would like a source.

Major props to them for both picking up a good selection of titles AND for actually being able to announce them a modest ways in advance. I'll be looking forward to at least checking out most of them (outside of the ones that are sequels to shows I didn't watch- which would be, well, all of the shows they've got that are sequels  ). Quite pleased they've got PanSto- at least assuming they've got it uncensored. KamiNomi & Squid Girl were both ones I had modest hopes for, so their being on CR coming out regularly & completely legally definitely boosts the chances I'll watch them. The rest I'll at least check out- I've been surprised before by shows that looked middling at best from their initial information (best case-in-point: Ga-Rei: Zero).
It'll be interesting to see as well whether they're actually done with simulcast announcements- there's still a good bit of time left, and it's not like they've not announced licenses after things have started airing in the past. And thankfully, unlike certain other streaming sources, they actually do a decent job of catching up. (No, I'm not annoyed that TAN is over 2 months behind on Maid-sama, not in the least bit... :beat: )

The news post on the CR front page does at least say:
We plan to have more announcements coming out so keep an eye out for them.
Though considering CR's past records and the uncertainty of the word "plan to," we'll have to wait and see.
Even just this many new simulcasts would be a good haul, though. I think it's already more than last season (even if last season had less shows overall). Either way, Funi still needs to announce their slice.

We filmed it at the Yokohama Animate right after they finished a live Soraoto web radio show on Sunday. All things told it went pretty smoothly!
It really goes to show you how much closer Kadokawa and other anime studios are working with people from the west than before.

I'm not sure what is "ironic" about that. We know why (Bandai is releasing it). Having a licensed R1 release announced before the Japanese release is an example of working with the international community. Now, they just need to move to near day and date releases...
Shiroi Hane

It is probably *because* they're working closer with the West; they may be assuming that Bandai would think the same way they would in the same position if they were effectively 'competing' with their suppliers.

I dunno if the number of characters is supposed to actually match up. Plus, it could be totally different if it's an English localized title.
But with 25 characters, perhaps SoredemoMachiwaMawatteiru? And I guess it would fit alongside Natsu no Arashi.

I bet Quarkboy's unrevealed title is "Toaru Majutsu no Index II". Its exactly 25 characters with spaces, and I'd imagine Funimation will simulcast it seeing as they've licensed the first season and have recently simulcasted second seasons of shows they haven't yet released.

Well, now you know! Can't wait to watch these series.... I'm really curious about them.
Index I = Good show that gets much better once they stop talking as much... yet ironically the titular character gets VERY little screentime for much of the show. Apparently the light novels took a while to actually get going, and the anime reflects that. Hopefully Index II has gotten past that and will be closer to the level of Railgun.
Railgun = AWESOME show that requires little to no knowledge of the fact it's a spin-off from Index. Far better cast overall, better-paced and interesting plot despite the second half being anime original, and just a lot of fun. Much of the core Index cast make at least cameos. Most people who've watched both (myself included) would have preferred getting more Railgun before more Index.

Tantei Opera Milky Holmes is also 25 including spaces.
A big question on how many title Crunchyroll ends up with is how aggressive Funimation will be on streaming-only licenses as they launch their revamped site. Outside of their ongoing deals, One Piece and noitaminA, they had six simulcasts this last season. If the barriers to simulcast really did fall last season, then somewhere in the range of six to twelve per series deals for Funimation. And Magical Index 2 seems high up on the list of likelies with their DVD licenses of Magical Index and Scientific Railgun.
If they are aggressive, I'd expect some announcements these two weeks and a big bang at NYAF the second weekend of the season.
Say 5 out of 25 either no available for simulcast or taken by TAN/Viz, would leave Crunchyroll with 8 to 14 new series (barring kiddie shows and the two card game shows) ~ they have already announced 7 and "expect" at least one more announcement to come.
OTOH Summer could have been a false dawn due to the weakness of the season ~ lots of production committees willing to reach simulcast deals because they had not hopes of a DVD release anyway.

Yeah, I guess "with spaces" makes sense too. I'd love for Milky Holmes to be on CR. It kind of seems to hit that right range for CrunchyRoll, too, of being:
- Too niche for the mainstream, but...
- Still not the most hyped among the 2ch/otaku taste-makers.
That makes it unlikely to go to an R1 distributor, but easy and cheap to pick up.
Though I suppose Quarkboy could also be translating that unknown title for someone other than CR. Not too much precedent, but he did do The Tatami Galaxy and is freelance now.

Though CrunchyRoll's # of titles this season have already outstripped their # of titles last season, and Funi's streams (presumably) do include an (eventual) DVD release, and it's Funi's announcements we're still waiting on.

Funi's streams (presumably) do include an (eventual) DVD release, and it's Funi's announcements we're still waiting on. ... I'm only guessing, but my guess if part of their revamp of their site is they are going to be getting more stream-first simulcasts where any license for a dubbed DVD distribution is "we'll wait and see how popular it is".
For example, I'm a little skeptical whether they'll dub House of Five Leaves from last season or Legends-Squared from this season for a DVD release, but as sub streams, they are just fine. Its hard for them to lose money on a Hulu stream, and very low risk to stream three or four simulcasts exclusive at Funimation.com and the rest via Hulu.
And for a Japanese production committee, a 1 in 2 or 1 in 3 chance of a dubbed R1 DVD release is still worth putting Funimation at the head of the simulcast queue.
I really have my fingers crossed for a Magical Index II simulcast from Funimation, as I expect it would make a Scientific Railgun stream more likely. Other than that, I've got an anime subscription at Crunchy, so I want as many of my prospective shows to end up at Crunchy as possible.

Quite, substantially more 26 episode series in Fall and Spring than in Summer and Winter.
But the prospects are good, since we have a week to go on Summer still, and they have only announced one individual streaming license. With the six titles from the two package deals, they have time to focus on negotiating for individual streaming licenses.
And of course, Funimation as well as the others will have been knocking on doors to line up titles for their new look site, which will also push production committees to be prepared to negotiate streaming rights earlier than they have been doing before.

Well they're up to 9 already. They didn't say this is the last one, they just didn't list another "TBD" on the lineup. However they have announced things without having spots on that lineup page plenty of times.
A good deal of what's left is sequels to stuff they didn't simulcast, or kiddy shows. If they pick up anything else, I'd put my money on MM!, SoreMachi, or Tantei opera Milky Holmes.

I just canceled mine yesterday. I've had it for a year now and have never used it. I thought they would eventually fix their player (make the buffering time larger...) but they never did. My comp always catches up to the loaded portion and I have to stop and let it buffer more, the other method is so much easier.

I've not been keeping track, but I'd likely keep my subscription even if there were just one. I long said that the simulcast model they've pioneered is the best way for us to get anime and that I would readily support such a model financially, and I firmly believe in putting my money where my mouth is. I'll probably be keeping my TAN subscription as well, even though I'm only really watching Maid-sama there (though I'll still happily bitch about their being 2 months behind...). Hopefully they (and Funi) will pick up a few that I'm interested in as well. I'd LOVE for this season to be one where I can watch everything legally simulcast (this last season's only exception was K-ON!!).

That would be because Kadokawa, as a company, targets very specific segments in Japan with their anime and publishing. Not including the mainstream stuff they distribute, of course. Nevertheless, they are largely an otaku-targeted company.
Honestly though? I don't see what those three titles have in common.

Well, my top 2 was Otome and Squid Girl...I thought they would do better than that.

2010 Q4 subscription+free new simul ranking: 1. YP 2. TB 3. WGOK 4. SnO2 5. FA 6. OYZ 7. PSG 8. SG 9. SRWOG 10. TOMH 3:48 AM Jan 13th via web
Wait what...? How does:
New show ad-supported (free view) rankings for week 9: 1. TB 2. TWGOK 3. SnOF 4. FA 5. OYZ 6. P&S 7. SRW 8. YPP 9. SG 10. TOMH
New! Simulcast (subscription) rankings for week 9: 1. TWGOK 2. OYZ 3. FA 4. SnOF 5. P&S 6. SG 7. TB 8. SRW 9. YPP 10. TOMH
Result in YPP eventually taking the #1 spot? Even looking at week 1, this would imply the weeks that were tweeted were statistical aberrations (or people waited till Christmas to catch up?). Though the obvious result from this is that the free viewings weight far more heavily in terms of viewer count.

(or people waited till Christmas to catch up?) Yes, I'd think it means that a smaller share of YPP's audience watched it as soon as it streamed, and a larger share caught up.
Free streaming would seem likely to dominate in terms of total hits numbers. The subscriber streams are more important in terms of revenues than they are in terms of hits.

Very true.
For a show like Yumeiro, the number of free views can be 20-30 times the number of subscriber views.
But for a more niche show, it can be only 2-3 times. An order of magnitude difference.
Furthermore (and this might be obvious when you think about it), the greater percentage of free viewers, the longer a tail the show has. I.e. when people watch it for free they aren't doing it on a regular basis, just when the get around to it. So Yumeiro episode 3 is probably getting a lot more hits per day now than Panty and Stocking episode 3, multiplied by total episodes.
Over the long run Yumeiro will probably pull away over everything else when it comes to free views, much like Sugar Chara did.

Basically, the "ceiling" for free views of YPP is much higher than the other shows, but the "velocity" is lower. If you know what I mean.

Yumeiro did (and is still doing!) fantastic on free views. The demographic is (1) younger and (2) more female as compared to other shows on CR. The average Yumeiro and Shugo Chara viewer might not subscribe, but they watch for repeat viewings and tell their friends.
