Is Blizzard Banning Starcraft II Players For Cheating In Singleplayer? (http://kotaku.com/5661492/is-blizzard-banning-starcraft-ii-players-for-cheating-in-singleplayer)
Seeing how this does not affect the multiplayer component, I find this utterly ridiculous!
I find cheating on games to be utterly ridiculous. If you can't win as you are now, practice.

I think it is ridiculous for multiplayer, but singleplayer... who cares?

The main problem is that everything he did can be done, without the use of a trainer program, with the cheat codes in the game. However, using those codes disables achievements. He used a program to cheat while still getting achievements.
So yeah.

Are achievements that important? Who cares what people do in single player. I often cheat when I play games. I also mod the crap out of them. Back in the days of Warcraft II, some of my fondest memories were creating maps with an unauthorized map editor that allowed you to modify the stats of a unit. I certainly never asked for achievements, so it's kind of annoying to lose control because of them.

No, they aren't. Which kinda doubles the stupidity on both sides.

Did you read what he tried to do? Should of been perma banned imo.
Cheating on Single player to boost his achievement/trophy score for his gamer tag/account rep...
if he wanted to cheat fine... but when he tried tie to his "score" to his online account... that affects his online fame...
something

I was kind of wondering if the campaign had cheats like the original did. I haven't actually gone and looked for them yet because I didn't need them, but it would be fun to mess around. I needed them in the original and especially Brood War because no selectable difficulty + me sucking = I couldn't beat the campaign otherwise. SC2 is way better in that respect with the different difficulty levels, meaning I could play through without cheats on Normal easily enough.

I really can't take any claim to inaccurate online fame because a couple achievements in Starcraft II might have been earned with the help of cheating seriously. It just seems like such a non-issue to me.

Back when I was in grade 7 I got nailed for using the dummy glitch in Halo 2 on matchmaking and got a few months suspension from Xbox Live...I was pretty pissed. I'm glad I don't do things like that any more haha.
Frankly, I never understood what sort of value there really is in terms of achievements. Is being a "better" gamer somehow an accomplishment worth lauding? Should I be putting badass RPG guy on my resume?

Actually, people have put World of Warcraft on their resume. Being a good team leader (Guild), learning to manage time, etc. I'm telling you, video games on resumes is the future.
And I like to feel like I accomplish things. I'm very proud of my inFamous platinum trophy. Makes me feel good even if it's just a game and pretty much no one sees it.

You may not but some folks cant get enough of it... I dont understand but hey... it's what makes X-box Live a money maker. Image if they say that they wont keep track of your epenis? Imagine the outrage.
The guy cared enough to use an outside cheat program... I guess you can consider it like getting all the Bromides from Lunar and having a medal/badge that shows it. There are folks who grind games they hate just to get the achievement/platinum.
