Yup, it's currently confirmed to be delayed in the US and Japan. No word yet on Europe.

Still coming this year, so it could be as little as a week or two delay. Even so, terrible news :(

Well I sounds like they are making some minor tweaks to make it so they can make it great. I'd rather have a game delayed and be perfected than have a it released and have some possible flaws in it.

Anyone who complains about this should realize they probably want this out for Christmas this year, and the timing can't be more perfect.

The delay wasn't intentional. There were new requirements from Sony that all games shipped after October include the 3.50 firmware. The gold disc had to be pulled because it had 3.41. When they pulled the Gold Disc, they were pushed back in the queue on the manufacturing side. The Eurogamer article (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-10-14-gt5-delay-due-to-ps3-hack) has better details than the Playstation.com release.

Oh, so that's why...

Also, does anyone find it a bit off putting that NASCAR is in this? If anything it'll probably be a way to get money easily since all you do is turn left...

Well I'll rarely, if ever play that mode, but I'm definitely not put off having more content.

Perhaps they'll allow you to run down Danica Patrick on occasion?

Did you ever actually play any of the oval-track levels in GT4? They're quite challenging, even if it's a different approach to racing than the usual brake-turn-accelerate. When everyone is going at the same speed, passing isn't exactly straightforward.

You know, maybe I should have put more thought into that. I did play on High Speed Ring a few times on GT2 and it was tough when you got enough speed and while the physics aren't the same Daytona USA does require some skill to pass on the Beginner track...

Euro release on the 26th November?

http://hypegamer.nl/upload/images/IMG00092-20101109-1116-2.jpg

All the other dates seem right, this would suggest a US date of the 23rd. As with all GT5 stuff recently, take with a massive grain of salt :P

Are Amazon and GameStop being pessimistic, then? They're showing release dates of 31/12/10 and 01/01/11, respectively. ^^; Given the day of the week, I'll presume that those are placeholder dates...

Just got this email from Amazon regarding my GT5 Collector's Edition preorder:

Hello,

We have received new release date information related to your pre-ordered video game in the order you placed on September 11 2010 (Order# 102-). The release date for the video game listed below has been changed by the publisher, and we want to provide you with a new delivery estimate based on the new release date:

"Gran Turismo 5 Collector's Edition"
Release date: December 31 2010
Estimated arrival date: January 12 2011 - January 19 2011

Perhaps this is just a delay with the Collector's Edition?

Well, Amazon's page for the standard version of GT5 also shows a 31 Dec release date...

Dates like the last day of the year, first day of the year, 12/12/12 etc are usually always placeholders. Easiest way is to check if the day is, for the US, a Tuesday. That's when 99% of games are released (same with UK games being a Friday) so if it's not then it's likely to be a wrong date.

Well, 12/31 is a Friday.

So why would the publisher give Amazon a placeholder date, when they really shouldn't have any need to do that in the first place?

Well yeah, but it's not exactly the best date for releasing arguably the biggest game on the PS3 so far :P

It's not the publisher giving them the date, when the game was delayed from its 2nd/5th November date, most retailers just said December 2010 or 2011, but there are some like Amazon and Gamestop that must require their inventory system to give a game a date, thus it is usually the end/start of the year or something like 12/12/12.

Of course, it could come out on the 31st, given the mess the whole release date thing has been so far, but from the leaks/scans/reading between the lines it looks like the 23rd/26th November is the best bet.
