Since the other thread said teaser trailer, I figured that I'd make this one for the actual game.
So far, it's pretty much more of the same. Which suits me just fine. Cleared out baddies from the first two towns (Goodsprings and Primm), and now I'm on a quest to get Primm a new sheriff.
Who here wants me to make a casino/museum spokesbot into the new sheriff? :P

I never ran into any *major* bugs for Fallout 3, and I expect to not run into any on FNV.
Now, minor bugs, like some non-critical characters disappearing...yes. Annoying, but not at all fatal.

I'm pretty much at the same spot as you. I made a character focused on intelligence and charisma with guns, speech, and repair tagged. I also took the small frame and four eyes traits to mix things up. Speech has definitely proved more useful than in Fallout 3 though repair has more limitations on it and I haven't used it much except to fix a radio to get caps and repair the elevator in Primm to get to the upper floor of the hotel. There's also been a ton of guns so far, so wearing one out hasn't caused much of a problem.
As you have the option of turning it off later if it gets too annoying, I decided to try out hardcore mode. It certainly adds a unique dynamic to the game as skills that probably wouldn't get much use like survival become imperative when you have to scavenge for food and water to survive. I thought having to sleep regularly would get annoying, but it doesn't seem so bad so far as the days last long enough that it doesn't feel like you have to do it constantly. The only annoying part right now is not being able to use empty bottles to carry water around with you (or if you can, I haven't figured out how), but as of right now, I see myself sticking with it as it definitely gives the experience of trying to eek out a living in a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

I didn't really see many glitches playing FO3 on ps3 though I've already run into a couple here. Nothing game breaking but a few hovering animals and once in the middle of a gunfight, the enemies decided to suddenly ignore my presence and stop shooting at me (and I responded by shotgunning the back of their heads).

The one horror story of a glitch I ran into in FO3 was that my ability to look around stopped working, moving the right analog stick wouldn't do anything at all. It wasn't the controller, it worked fine on other games, and no matter what I did I couldn't get it to work again. Lost about 5 hours worth of gameplay to that glitch.
Even with all the reports of bugs, I still can't wait to play this game. My CE is supposed to arrive tomorrow.

Unfortunately, Fallout 3 on my PS3 was a nightmare of glitches and crashes, with the game frequently crashing entering VATS every couple of hours. And even if I were up to playing another nearly-identical-looking Fallout title, issues like THIS (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ToKIkw3LIoQ&feature=player_embedded) tell me all I need to know about the quality control up there at Obsidian/Bethesda so I can avoid the game till it's in the bargain bin. Granted, the Oblivion engine is a piece of crap and that's the PC version. From what I've heard, though, the console versions aren't much better and are possibly worse.

You dont understand... it's a feature and apart of the story! You just got shot in the head and your full of drugs so that scene totally works cause your tripping out on drugs as your creating your character.
It'll be patched... I'm gonna hold out for a "complete" edition with all the DLC included. I bought the PC version of FO3 and got the PS3 version for the GOTY edition.
FO:NV seems like an expansion to me... it's more of the same even the bugs. 2 years and still havent fixed this crappy engine they are using.

Sadly, this was my experience as well with FO3. But even with all that I still picked up this game since I get alot of fun out of it.
So far, I'd say this game is running better for me then FO3. There is still the random 0.2 seconds of freeze while walking around, enemies falling into the land graphics, and Caravan almost locked up my system once. But honestly, it's just par for the course when you're playing a game on this engine.
One thing that is annoying me though; when blips are showing up on my compass that denote people or enemies, so I go towards them and then POOF, blip is gone. I wonder if it has anything to do with my Perception, since it's only 6 (7 with a hat)
EDIT: Heh, FO3 glitched so bad one time that I threw a grenade at a Behemoth Mutant, and it lauched him into the atmosphere! Then when he finally hit the ground, he did his death animation. Talk about a bank error in your favor.

Yeah, I've had enemies stop fighting and try to run away, but they usually say as much. But they're not good at hiding, and I can usually hunt them down while they're cowering in a corner.

Update: Patches are coming. Pete Hines, marketing man at Fallout studio Bethesda Softworks, tells Kotaku that "We are currently working on releasing patches/updates as quickly as possible for Fallout: New Vegas, for all platforms. Announcements regarding the patches are forthcoming." He advises anyone seeing this head-turning bug to re-verify their files on Steam, as the issue is due to a "corrupt mesh file." Also notable: The head-turning bug here was highlighted two days ago in a blog post by one of the game's producers, who identified it as a known bug that was "eradicated" prior to the game's official release.
I can see issues with the PC version, because they're writing code for thousands of different hw/sw combinations, but consoles?

Just got my PC Collectors Edition via Amazon.
I'll install it tomorrow, but I will say that the casino chips in the box are "casino grade."
I expected cheapo plastic chips, but these are weighted just like the real ones. The "platinum chip" is also hefty and impressive.
Overall, the whole package just reeks of quality.

A few things come to mind:
1. Bad Steam install.
2. Update audio and video drivers.
I'm installing now, will see how this goes. Pulling the data from the DVD, and not Steam so that should eliminate any chances of corrupted files.
Edit: so much for that idea..."Updating Fallout New Vegas. Ready to play in approximately 21 minutes..."
Steam is nice, but when I buy a game on a fricking disc, I expect to fricking PLAY as soon as that install is done. Grrr....
Edit: launched just fine after updating, played for like 4 hours...no crashes encountered.

So far, so good.
Putting most of my points into lockpicking so I can get more loot, and so far most of the perks have been focused on those that effect experience and abilities.
The most effective weapon seems to be the 10mm pistol. Just scored 9mm subguns from the NCR correctional facility, but they seem rather underpowered. That may have been due to their miserable condition, though.
Caesar's Legion troops are tough...

Use system restore to put the system back to a time BEFORE you installed the update.
Make a new restore point preserve this condition.
Then uninstall all current Realtek utilities and drivers, then install the latest update.
If that fails, you may want to try and reinstall DirectX, or reduce the hardware acceleration settings on your soundcard.
To do that (under XP), go to control panel, sounds and audio devices. Click on the audio tab, then click the Advanced button under Sound Playback/Default Device (this is presuming you system restored back to your "working" condition).
Under the "performance" tab, try reducing the hw acceleration until the game works...
Also there may be settings in the game that you can adjust for the sound quality.
Hope that helps...
If not, buy a basic Creative or other brand soundcard from Newegg.

Last thing would be to completely remove FNV and redownload from Steam...
And/or get a new soundcard and disable the onboard one in the bios.

Yeah, I've gotten a couple. There's a really easy one to get in the motel at Novac. I think it only cost around 100 caps and you get to use it for ever. You can also be given rooms in Freeside and on the Vegas strip. The various factions (and not just the three main ones) seem to like to award you places to stay for doing quests for them).

I'm at level 17 or 18 right now. I've gotten to the Vegas Strip though I haven't confronted Benny yet or started on the missions for the missions for the NCR ambassador. I've mainly been having a blast exploring the wasteland and doing side missions for (or against) the various factions. I am really enjoying the faction system as it makes how you deal with various groups far more interesting than Fallout 3. Right now I have the best standing with the NCR, Brotherhood of Steel, Khans, White Glove Society and Novac while I'm only vilified by Caesar's Legion and the Powder Gangers. I suspect I'll make more enemies once I progress along the main storyline and start having to take sides in the larger conflict.
I've continued to stick with hardcore mode and I'm not finding it too difficult. There's enough fresh water and food around that I'm rarely desperate for food and maintaining a regular sleep cycle isn't much of a pain except when you are exploring larger ruins. Having to go to a doctor to repair crippled limbs is sort of annoying though since my character hasn't built up her medicine skills. I'm actually finding food to be more effective than stimpacks for healing though I'm sure their much better if you train in medicine.
I've also managed to recruit four of the companions, Veronica, Boone, ED-E, and Cass. Boone is a badass NCR first recon sniper who pretty much kills anything that comes close to you so he's probably the best for combat. Cass is Cassidy's daughter from Fallout 2 and, like her father, she specializes in shotguns. She's pretty fun to have around. My absolute favourite personality-wise is Veronica, the sarcastic lesbian Brotherhood of Steel Scribe who really, really wants a nice dress. Her dialogue is hilarious. Unfortunately she's an unarmed combat specialist and her perk doesn't do much for me as I haven't crafted too much yet. That said, she has power armour training so you can suit her up and she does fairly well.
Still no game breaking bugs but the game does crash every so often. Still a lot more than Fallout 3, especially with visual glitches and stuff like that.

10-29-2010, 09:08 PM
I've only had Cass and Boone as companions so far. Boone is awesome. However, I don't know many missions I have to do with him before, I can do his companion mission. I am able to recruit Gannon at Freeside, but I need to do Boone's quest first.
Most doing Freeside quests at the moments. :)
