Nice cover! I don't have a huge interest in this, but I might pick it up at some point.

That's a pretty nice looking box. Too bad I completely hate the show after that last story arc.

This is pretty close to how I feel. It's a rather nice box, but sadly the last arc ruined the show for me.

Well, the artwork doesn't get me interested in a show that I abandoned after the first episode. The additional comments above make it even harder for this release to get my attention.
TRSI and Amazon don't have any info explaining why it's "limited". Is this part of their move towards sturdy boxes for some titles? Some other item?

Nice cover, and I dig the boxes, but again I I'm holding out hope that Funi will do boxes for their blu ray versions as well.

I really like that. Sad to hear it jumps the shark though. :/ If only Netflix wasn't so bloody behind in new anime releases...

Man that's really nice looking. Like how they give Ein a sexy pose. I may pick this up but I wonder what the "Limited Edition" will include that will make worth the that much?
I really like the looks of this. It works. I'm tempted to wait for the BD release of which it will be a while. Just like Black Butler P1 I have this pre-ordered pending the specs.

This looks really good, but I can't bring myself to buy this series after watching the last few episodes (especially the very last episode).

I'm a bit more inclined towards this show than Sacred Blacksmith.
Is it bad I'm interested in the packaging details more so than the actual show?

Then don't listen to them. I assure you that many people liked the series. This board in particular just seems to have an abnormal number of people who like to whine about it.

Though there also seems to be a remarkable lack of actual comments as to why the show is genuinely worth watching and why the ending isn't as bad as it's portrayed. Simply saying that naysayers shouldn't be listened to is a rather inadequate way to try and sell folks on any series.

You can still watch episodes of it on the Funimation video portal and see for yourself if you like it or not. Last time I checked all 26 episodes(subbed) were still up. A lot of people are comparing it to the game and not just as a stand alone TV series. I personally thought the show was great from beginning to end and I have never played the game. So basically what I'm saying is check out the series yourself and don't base you your buying or not based on what we say. And after that you don't like thats fine.

I think those of us who liked the first 2/3 of the show and felt the last third was utterly atrocious have, between the original discussion thread and various threads since then, expressed exactly why we think the show isn't worth purchasing.

A lot of people are comparing it to the game and not just as a stand alone TV series.
Yes, but the people doing that usually are among the ones saying its a good show. Those of us (most of us, at least, as far as I can tell) that despised the last arc haven't played the game.
It needs to be noted that there are two types of problems with the end of Phantom and not everyone has both: one is with the entire last arc, one is with the last episode specifically. The last arc, from what I hear, was mostly faithful to the game except for something in the very last episode. People who basically hate the entire arc like me aren't complaining that it wasn't faithful to the game, we're just complaining that it was generally and genuinely terrible on its own merits. People who are complaining about that last part may or may not be comparing it to the game, but plenty of people who didn't play the game dislike it. I actually didn't mind that aspect.

Yeah I get all that I understand were your coming from and while I agree the last arc had real issues like Cal looking ten years older and Reiji and Ein looking younger what was a span of like a year if I recall correctly. but IMO it did not ruin the series as a whole for me. Now I will most likely skip this version only cause I may hold out for the eventual Blu Ray.

Those problems ended up being relatively minor and the Cal's age issue was mostly an issue for me, it didn't seem to have that much an impact on other people. But that arc had much worse and more substantial problems than a few questionable artistic decisions.

Yeah, it was the wholesale character assassination that really pissed me off.

It's an alright cover. They could have done better with it, but it works for what this series is about.
Slightly enlarged and a bit more clear cover art:

...
Part 1 (Episodes 1-13) comprises of a collectible rigid hard box containing 2 slim DVD cases with reversible covers and a premium item. The collector box will have room to include the 2 slim DVD cases in Part 2. (all 4 slims will fit in to the collector box) The concept is very much similar to the Volume 1 Starter Boxes released several years ago. The SRP for this would be $5 more or $64.98 – retailers will likely price this at $43 to $52 – (cause who pays full retail?)
This will be a First Printing Limited Edition. After we have sold through all the allocated units of the first printing with the rigid box and premium– that’s it. We will then start to offer Part 1 for $59.98 SPR with a cardstock box and 2 slim DVDs- our current packaging. (retailers will likely price this at $40 to $48.)
Phantom – Requiem for the Phantom – The premium item will be a bullet chain necklace.

When I get some spending money; this is the first series I will buy along with Black Butler and Durarara. I have watched two and half episodes of this series and I am hooked! I never knew it was based off a game until I searched this anime up.

I just got this in yesterday. The necklace looks much better in person. It's surprisingly well constructed for what's suppose to be a cheap trinket.
