It's a great series. The story is one of the best I have seen years and the characters are really likable. The animation is absolutely gorgeous especially on BD. The fact that it's directed by the same person that did Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex tells you your in for something fun right away. I can't really think of anything bad other than it's only 11 episodes and the whole opening theme issue. But there are two movies as well coming out soon from Funimation that continues the storyline so thats a plus. If you are uncertain Funimation has the whole series on there video site that you check out for free.

The TV series is excellent. I can't really think of any bad points for that. It has an intriguing premise, executes it brilliantly, has a fun cast, good characterization. You have to wait for the movies for a conclusion but the TV series ending is fantastic on its own.

The movies... don't live up to the TV series. They are not bad by any stretch, but they aren't nearly as good. Part of the reason, in my opinion at least, is a spoiler so I can't say it. Another part is that while it moves the plot along and explains everything well enough, it just lacks the excitement and tension of the TV series. At the same time, its much more heavily focused on that plot and there is very little room for the characters and their interactions to shine, which is a big part of what made the TV series so great.

And the description reminds of Future Diary - is that a fair comparison?I haven't read Future Diary yet (mainly because I'm hoping for a TV anime and want that to be my first experience; I've been buying the manga though) but I've heard some things about it, some that I would have rather not known ahead of time.

I think they are comparable only to the extent that their premises both involve a bunch of people given a special item and then having to use it to compete with each other. It seems like Future Diary's cast is mainly high schoolers. The main characters are at the very least. Everyone in Eden of the East is at least in their early 20s, with the main characters and their little group being mostly recent college graduates, and the one or two that aren't are still in the same age range.

Beyond that, and more significantly, Future Diary sounds like its pretty dark. At the very least, some of the characters are pretty screwed up and some rather messed up things happen. Eden of the East has a few somewhat dark bits (mainly something around the mid-point of the TV series; you'll never see the name "Johnny" in the same way) but basically, its an action/thriller movie in tone but with a heavier character focus. Future Diary seems like its much more comparable to Higurashi.

I have watched the first few episodes and I has absolutely hooked. It's that great with the storyline and animation. As soon as I get my Blu-Ray player (which will be soon), I will watch the rest of the series.

I have to say that this is the first series in a long time that had me pinned to the television. From the first episode to the last. I just wish it was a longer series.

I really liked it. One of the good points is it keeps you interested. Just when you think you know what's going to happen, you get surprised. Probably one of the bad points is it's only 11 episodes. But they make it up to you with the 3(?) movies that follow it. With the ending, it would be ok if you don't watch the movies...but you will want to.

2 movies come after the TV series and wrap up the storyline, but I believe there was also a compilation movie that retold the events of the TV series.

It's good. Really good, since it hooks you in from the first episode. Once the rest of the cast is introduced, I thought it went a bit off tangent with the Selacao (I thought the part with Kuroha took too long considering the pacing of the show). However, what happened to me is that I was still absorbing everything that you don't notice how dragging the whole bit was.

As for the movies, they do wrap up the series. The first part of the 1st movie wasn't so bad in terms of pacing, but I thought it would've been better if everything was given in doses of 20 minute episodes rather than 2 full movies. I found that there's too much information to take in one sitting.

Hopefully a dub solves the problem, which is why I look forward to the movies being released. :bigsmile:
