That's right guys. The 3rd Birthday, or Parasite Eve as you knew it to be will be coming again.

On December 22 in Japan and during the first quarter of '11 for North America.

Maybe they'll port it to the iPhone? The 3DS? Probably not anytime soon, mind you, but still. I'll be dusting off the PSP for this one.

Seems that there's like a trend between theme songs.

Like the first Eyes on Me was done by Faye Wong [FFVIII]. This seems more towards the ballad-esque type (Melodies of Life, Kimi ga Iru Kara etc...)

But yeah, the game seems interesting.

I've always wanted to get into Parasite Eve. I've played through half of the first one ages ago, and I've also played through about half of the second but I've never finished either...

I was super disappointed in the second one, which went way too Resident Evil for my tastes. The first one is among my favorite PS One games. I still own it, indeed.

It looks like SE is continuing on the path of minimal RPG elements so I think this entry may disappoint you as well. I won't be picking it up if this is the case. It's a shame too because the first one was so awesome. How many horror RPGs are there out there? A whole lot fewer than horror action game number 10000052.

I wouldn't count on a phone port of this either. SE originally planned this game for phones but scrapped that idea and went with PSP only. And if Japan isn't getting it on phones, we sure aren't.

I am a lot more interested in the spruced up PSP port of FFIV that contains all the After Years content than this game, all said and done (though this will look and sound a whole lot nicer - maybe even better than KH: Birth by Sleep!). For those folks not into RPGs, this will help fill a major void as there isn't much out there other than RPGs for the PSP.

Ugh so sick of reading this over the past year or so. What's the alternative, it remain as a Japanese mobile phone game?

As I said during the last E3: Fuck. Yes.

I have utterly forgotten the overall story; so I need to reread me some internet before picking up this game.

I would have liked at least a PS2 port, although we are perhaps a little past that stage now. Basically, anything that was actually genuinely designed with controlling this kind of game in mind, which the PSP clearly wasn't, even if some people are happy enough with the workarounds used.

Would be nice if leading up to the game Sony offered the the first two games available to download on PSN.

Pretty sure they have done on the Japanese store, might do the same coming towards the US release.

I recall playing the first Parasite Eve on the PS years ago, which i enjoyed very much. The 2nd one didn't impress me and i didn't play beyond few hours from it. I don't know which game play will the 3rd game follow but i would be glad to re-live the Parasite Eve fever again :)

My only issue for having the game on the PSP and not on the PS2 or PSN is that the US release (if any) will most likely not contain the Japanese audio due to the lack of space. But then again, some companies are still using the same lame excuse for PS3/Xbox360 game

I noticed from the trailer that they started to used very annoying Engrish names for the characters - which is disheartening since Parasite Eve 1 and 2 actually used normal sounding English names.

So am I. I hear it so much that you'd figure there'd be enough awesome PSP games available to justify purchasing one wouldn't you?

The PSP at this stage has a huge range of must-play games - that it has "no games" was 2007/2008's arguement. This year has been all about die-hard fans of console/PS3 games and series shun a sequel to one of their favourites just because it is portable.

I was being sarcastic so that's pretty much what I was getting at... I have a PSP and last week finished my 100+ hour playthrough of Valkyria Chronicles 2.

Near as I can tell most of the folks still claiming logic along these lines are more upset because the traditional consoles have nowhere near as many titles and they'd rather just have one portable system than two. But then when I have as many PSP games as PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii combined, they can either set sail on the good ship PSP or miss out on a heck of a lot of good games. :P

Exactly. I just laugh inside at people who instantly dismiss the PSP, considering what a fantastic year it has had. It's going to be the ultimate cult system when we look back at this gen.

I wish it was March already I really want to play this game. I hope Sony will put the first Parasite Eve game on psn, because unfortunately I don't own part one yet.

The PSP does now have a large catalog of games that would have been awesome on a home console, you're right! ;)

PS: I own two PSPs and still buy games for it (especially if it's got a nice LE), I just don't play them because the PSP sucks to play on, lol.

I don't think the argument is anything to do with the number or quality of games on PSP. It's really hard to dispute, at least as far as the gaming demographic on this forum goes, that the PSP doesn't have a great library of games. I certainly buy enough of them.

It's entirely to do with the platform, and even then it's not necessarily that the PSP is a terrible platform. The problem is that a lot of us don't have a public transport commute or a job where we can get away with playing games. If I'm at home, I'm going to end up playing games on a proper console or watching some anime or something - this isn't even anything to do with the fidelity of the experience, it's simply that it's more comfortable. By virtue of not having to be portable, the ergonomics of the controller are more suited to longer periods of play.

It's becoming of increasing issue as, with the power of the consoles increasing and as time goes on, the games are getting to be less the kind of portable games I played in the past and more the kind of games I used to enjoy playing on the PSOne and PS2. On the one hand, that's great. ON the other hand, fidelity be damned, I kind of want to play these games for hours at a time on a proper controller (preferably on a TV) rather than hunched over a PSP with what I consider a less-than-ideal layout.

For what it's worth, I'll cite having exactly the same problems with the DS - I tend not to play much on that which isn't something you can play in short bursts like Layton. I'm sure that, if like most of Japan, I had a hours train ride into work every day I'd be loving the console. As it is it just stands as the console I own with loads of games I've not got around to playing.

Just finished the game! Really enjoyable overall.

+ Overdive system works well and means that it's not just constant shooting - there is a little bit of strategy required.
+ Combat itself is solid.
+ Great boss fights.
+ Music is excellent. Some lovely re-workings of classic PE tracks.
+ Presentation is fantastic. CG cut-scenes are, at times, jaw-dropping. Hard to believe this is 6 year old hardware.

- Controls can get a bit clumsy at times, especially in the middle of battle.
- Story is absolutely crazy and nonsensical. No really.
- Not the longest game in the world, although it did feel just about right for me. 6-8 hours for first playthrough on easy.
