View Full Version : Sweet moe girls who are lethal when provoked

Basically what I mean are female characters who look sweet and moe (and maybe even harmless or frail) - seemingly the typical type that a guy would bring home to show his mom. Yet when provoked, she unleashes some awesome fighting skills that are capable of killing or maiming her opponents.

One example is Katanagatari's Nanami Yasuri. Any others?

Taiga from Toradora?

(You always come up with some weird threads.)

Interesting thread, especially when you clarified via your explanation of a girl one would bring home to meet the mom.

Two such sweet girls come to mind, Narue from World of Narue (particularly in the beginning episodes) and Sun Seto from My Bride Is a Mermaid. Narue is a sweet girl who impresses Kazuto's mother and older sister as such, yet with some moxie and high-tech gadgetry, she clubs an alien assassin with a baseball bat (though not fatally; and, yes, I used the word _moxie_ and high time, too!). Sun similarly impresses Nagasumi's parents as a particularly sweet girl, but with a katana in hand, she proves impressively skilled at fighting numerous opponents.

I totally love this archetype. It's kind of like tsundere in that there's that gap between the two sides of the character, and within that gap I find moe. But it has some advantages over tsundere. It's more long-lasting, since it doesn't diminish as the character's relationship changes.

- Nearly all the Diclonius from Elfen Lied.
- Nearly all the cyborgs from Gunslinger Girl.
- Kuro from Kurokami (one of the characters who first made me fall in love with "GAR moe.")
- Chizuru Aizawa, from Squid Girl. Though she's more a big-sister kind of sweetness than a young, protectable kind of sweetness.
- In a sense, Koromo Amae, from Saki. On the mahjong tables, she will make you roll for Sanity loss.

There's lots of other characters who'd be included if you didn't just mean "awesome fighting skills," but "awesome power with the ability to traumatize people." Characters like the Dorm Leader from Maria Holic, for example.

Tamaki - Bamboo Blade (bullies better watch out!)
Tomoyo - Clannad (Combo Move FTW!)
Rena and Mion/Shion - Higurashi/When They Cry (and don't underestimate Rika or Satoko either)
Konata - Lucky Star (beat the snot out a guy who was harrassing Tsukasa.....though he was actually only asking questions and Tsukasa was in no danger :sd:)
Kagura - Fruits Basket (cute and sweet, but anyone who tries to come between her and Kyo, including Kyo himself, will face her wrath!)
Misa - Death Note (okay, not a threat physically, but tick her off, and 40 seconds later you may be feeling some pain in your chest, and.....)
Yachiru - Bleach (small and cute, and Kenpachi usually handles the fighting, but she is a lieutenant, so.....)
Hinata - Naruto (usually doesn't fight, but when push comes to shove, she can definitely hold her own. Subverted in that Kishimoto likes to put her against insanely-powerful opponents, so the poor girl suffers a lot. :()
Yakumo - School Rumble (do NOT insult Tenma around her.....)
May Chang - Fullmetal Alchemist (sweet, little girl. Has a crush on her inaccurately-assembled dream of Ed. Will own most people in a fight. She also has a panda! :))
Yuki Nagato - Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (no elaboration should be needed here). Haruhi herself to a lesser extent (Dynamic Entry on the computer club prez says it all)
