Hello folks, it HAS been quite a while....
As many long-time AODers know, every year, in February and March, we hold the lead-up to, and then the Annual Anime Championships...this will be the tenth year of the Championships, the last 8 broadcast in their entirety on AOD Sports...
Last year's Championships werent up to my usual efforts (as you know, i was dealing with a death in the family, so i ran a skeleton tourney without all the hoopla and extras everyone had come to expect...i first hope you all will forgive me and allow me to put on this years tourney, complete with all the capsules and extras you have been used to for so many years
Now, i want to address an issue that came up last year, and AODers, here is your big chance....as long-time fans know, we have had a pretty set group of animes that have been hooked up with the various NCAA teams for the men's tourney. The issue that was raised last year was that many of the animes that debuted with the Tourney in 2002 have been long out of print, and now quite a few of them are obscure titles, as a lot of folks had no clue about Kimagure Orange Road, Kaitou St Tail, or several others...plus they also noted there are many newer titles available now that may never get an invite (simply put, the numbers are such that Wolfie is running out of teams to hook up newer shows with)...
So, here is the question i am putting to you all:
1. Current Team/Anime line-up
a. Do we keep the current line-up as it is?
b. If not, when a title goes out of print, how long should they keep their spot?
c. And should we make exceptions for the true classics such as Sailor Moon, Kimagure Orange Road and other titles that were benchmarks for the Anime industry's growth in North America?
2. Or should we re-pair animes and teams each year? *shudders at the workload of such an idea, (but it was suggested!), not to mention how to deal with continuity issues from past tourneys!*
(For those who are new here, here is a list of the tournament champions, runner-ups, and the other Final Four survivors....
2002> Macross (defeated Princess Mononke....other Final Four: Sailor Moon, Urusei Yatsura)
2003> Excel Saga (defeated Sailor Moon...other Final Four: Kare Kano, Escaflowne )
2004> The Slayers (defeated Angelic Layer...other Final Four: Haunted Junction, DragonBallZ )
2005> Azumanga Daioh (defeated Fushigi Yugi...other Final Four: Inu Yasha, Battle Athletes)
2006> Utena (Defeated Outlaw Star...other Final Four: Samurai Champloo, Magical Project S)
2007> Utena (Defeated The Big O...other Final Four: Outlaw Star, Shinichin no Nana *Seven of Seven)
2008> Sailor Moon (defeated Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne...other Final Four: Azumanga Daioh, Outlaw Star)
2009> Azumanga Daioh (Defeated Battle Athletes...other Final Four: The Slayers, Vandread)
2010> DragonBall Z (defeated Tsukukage Ran...other Final Four: Battle Athletes, Onegai Teacher)
Thanks for your input
