Cover art is nice, though lol at the military-styled spine.
I already have the first release, so no need to get this.
It's simple. I guess it works. I can be better though. I have the first release, so I will be passing on this.

Don't care for the spine, but it'd definitely nicer than the old release which tried way too hard. For the most part, Strike Witches wasn't really a loud fanservice show, so all that crap about the war on pants didn't really fit at all. Here's hoping there's none of that one the back...

I do think I like this cover a lot better. But I liked the earlier spine a lot better. Which makes me...conflicted.

I agree, I really found it to be a terrible campaign, and I wonder how much it even sold anyhow.
At Otakon 2010, when announcing new licenses, they said:
"...Strike Witches Season 2. *applause* Yes, we had Season 1, it did fantastic for us. Oh my god, we were so happy to have Season 1 for Strike Witches. I want to thank everyone who took part in the "War on Pants" promotions we were doing. It was so, so much fun and this is, this is one of those hit surprise shows. We bought it, "Eh, it's a good show, what the hell, let's give it a shot," and it just blew up. So we were extremely happy to have it."
So it did quite well for them. Can't tell how much of it was due to their advertising. To be honest, I hated it myself. Because, darn it...they are wearing pants! Just alternate-universe pants!
Go beyond the fanbase here.
I can totally appreciate this, though, because an advertising campaign doesn't affect the actual show, subtitling, or my own enjoyment of the DVD.
So even if the advertising campaign doesn't appeal to me, I'm glad if it appeals to other people and helps make Strike Witches and similar shows a bigger success in North America (and thus helps more get licensed).

I loved the War On Pants campaign. It helped to sell the show despite how corny it was.

This one has fairly prominent Yoshikia crotch, while the first release has fairly prominent Yoshika ass. It's a tough one for sure.
Ahem.
While this is a fine cover, I quite liked what they did with the original release. Plus there was plenty more character artwork on the thinpak covers, and the spine was better.

Now that's just wrong. :PDon't blame me, it's all anime's fault for warping my fragile little mind. ;)
@ einhorn303: Yeah, I'd love to see a Blu-Ray for SW here in the US. I don't have many Blu-Rays yet so it would be a nice addition. Of course, I could just triple-dip. Some great extras would just cement the joy of the purchase. Sadly, extras in general seem to be a dying breed what with the Japanese rarely making them a package deal with a license.
The main purpose with new package art is to grab the attention of people who skipped a show the first time, double-dips are just a bonus.
I really enjoy this series. I wish Funi would get season 2 out faster.

Sorry for the bump, but I'm confused on the status of this title. It no longer appears on Right Stuf, and DVD List (http://dvdlist.kazart.com/DVDList2.php) only lists the first release. Yet Amazon only seems to list THIS release and not the initial one, unless I overlooked it.
Any clue to what's going on?

TRSI never listed this re-release. They still have the original boxset (http://www.rightstuf.com/i/fun01190) listed. This was never solicited anywhere else. It's assumed right now this re-release is either planned for a later date or canceled. I'm inclined to say it's planned for a later date as the series has yet to have a re-release.

No, but they have been misinformed a few times in the past. It also doesn't help that this version isn't solicited anywhere else. Either its an Amazon exclusive or something was lost in translation (so to speak).

More likely select online retailers got very preliminary release information. At this point, it won't bother me one bit if the MSRP changes, since it has a Pre-order Price Guarantee and I'm already down to $33.49! Now if TRSI puts it up lower, then I'll cancel and order there! I buy 90+% of my anime from TRSI, but I will order from Amazon, Amazon Marketplace or eBay if the prices are a lot lower.

I know this means nothing, as I am just one person, and apparently this ad campaign went over well, but; straight up, I will never buy this series if they keep putting that stupid 'war on pants' crap on the case. It may be a dumb fanservice show, but it pretends not to be a lot of the time. I don't think they ever even acknowledge in-show that none of the girls wear pants.

I understand your frustrations about their 'War on Pants', but dude...you're definitely missing out over something as petty as that. I never heard someone complain so much on "the back cover" of a box set before, it's mind-boggling
Since I didn't buy the first version of this, I will get this regardless and eventually double-dip and buy the Blu-Ray release. Hopefully we will see a solicitation for Season 2 Blu-Ray/DVD Combo in the Future (...most likely next spring or summer, I can wait.)

It's not really all that mind boggling considering the only circumstances under which I would buy it in the first place would be I have a couple hundred dollars in my bank account, I feel like buying anime, it's on sale, and I'm already placing an order on something else. It's not a show I'm dying to own or anything, just something I wouldn't mind spending money on, provided I could find nothing better to do with it.

I would say that SW is actually much more than just a dumb fanservice show. I also think that Funi's ad campaign is a disservice to the show, but if it lets them license it and sell it well enough to license future sequels, I can't complain.

I might've been inclined to agree if season 2 had done anything to further the plot, but alas. I don't even remember how season 2 ends, and I just watched it a few months ago. I watched season 1 like 3 years ago and I still remember its last episode. Season 2 definitely had better animation though...

It's really marketing at its best. In a sense it also pops out and appeals to consumers. It also matches well with the whole war theme mixed with pantless girls. Brilliant and catchy!
The 1st cover art was actually better as it had both sides of the cover filled with this war propaganda.
