I really hate not being able to give Azu-nyan, Fate, and Kirino my votes. They are top-tier characters that I adore and not being able to click the boxes next to them hurts me. :(

Hitagi, Haruhi and Holo are fantastic characters that I also love a lot and Olivier was my favorite FMA:B character, but they just didn't stand a chance against those six up top.

This is one strange first round. An almost even spread between the old guard, new characters to the draft, and characters who went before that have only been around between 2008 and now.

Ain't this the truth. And now I will state what I saw as weird- I was surprised to have Akari go as the first character in the draft, and shocked that Sakura was 12th, and Haruhi was 14th. It was a very interesting round, one that I'm glad to have seen- it mixed things up! Let's see if the votes go the same way.

Yeah I have to agree. I think it's a very eccentric mix of characters, from the usual heavyweights (Haruhi Suzumiya, Sakura Kinomoto) to several newbies like Ika-Musume and Yui. Heck, even Kerberos is on the list :P .

Anyway my votes went to the Palmtop Tiger, Squiddie, and the Haro idol.

I'm getting old and slowed down a lot in my anime viewing. I've only seen four characters in this line-up. So I voted for my little guy and his partner in crime. Then a toss up between a princess and cop.

On a side note is this the most female dominated opening round to date?

That's a lot of vagina floating around. I guess I'm glad there were only 20 entries, as I see myself picking last in the second round. Of course I don't mind seeing my picks rarely are taken by others and I don't see this year as being any different.

Horo, Yui and Azunyan? Not to mention Fate or Akari. C'mon guys, that's too much. Knocked Fate out first, so it was really between Horo and the K-ON! girls. If it were just one K-ON! girl this would be easier, and whoever it was would get my vote. But you had to go and cram both into this round, didn't you?

Well, in the end I went with Horo, only because some other K-ON! girls will be a shoe-in later.

Yeah, I mean, I love Zakuro, but...round 1? Really?

There are 3 other characters in this round from Fall 2010, so some of the coaches have to be a little adventurous or round 1 will always be the same 30 or so characters, rotated around? Also for all these big name characters, there are only a few I personally want to vote for, so that makes it more fun for me to have some fresher blood.

So for me, Kero-chan and Zakuro are definite votes; Sakura, Akari, and Lafiel are possibles. Of those three, I think I didn't vote for Sakura last year, so this year she gets my vote - plus I've been rewatching CCS lately, so she's nice and fresh in my mind.

Wow, what an interesting bunch of characters for Round 1. Some surprised me, some shouldn't have surprised me, and some make their expected appearances.

The only characters that I'm not familiar with are Sae and Zakuro, whose respective shows I haven't seen at all. Next to go are Azusa, Ika Musume, Lafiel and Kuroneko - I've either barely seen the show they're in, know them based on their popularity alone, or did not get to the point in the show where the character gets introduced.

After that, it was easy. Three H girls secure my votes - Hinagiku, Hitagi and Holo.

Akari going first I'm not that surprised. But Sakura and Haruhi being toward the end of the initial onslaught, that is a shocker. Those two, along with the Major, Lafiel, and Fate were the only big picks going on five or more drafts so far (for the first round).

This is always a tough round and this time, I am glad to see the wide variety of characters taken in this round with a mixture of characters from older anime and those from recent anime. This is the way the draft is meant to be played.

Now for my votes, I will again list six characters are up for my two votes with the third one going to my own character.

Maybe, I'll do a full break down later, but err I'm typing this on the PS3 and console browsers aren't exactly "advanced". In any case, the tough decision has been made and the guilt has been activated. My votes ended up being....

Nakano Azusa

There were several contenders, but those three ultimately won out. The worst part for me was having to choose between Nakano Azusa and Hirasawa Yui, but the former won out.

Ika Musume is a case of being influenced by being one of the more recent favorites for me. Also, the way she interacts with others in her show is part of the fun.

Kuroneko is awesome and probably the best part of Ore Imo, so I just had to vote for her. I had other reasons as well.

Nakano Azusa, a strong favorite from a high level favorite series. Also, her role in the anime is part of what influenced her to be the third and final vote in the long run.


Now to wait and see what the future holds. I suppose I might have waited longer to vote, but then I realized the following. No matter how late I vote, I will always second guess myself. Thus it was just better to vote now, while I was feeling motivated and had a clear idea.

Will quickly say that big apologies to Akari, Holo (really getting into Spice & Wolf now - enjoying the novels as much as the anime), Azunyan, Kuroneko and Hinagiku. I knew almost all the characters on there, and TBH only one character of those lot I cannot stand, so was a very VERY tough choice. A combo of revision of the CCS manga, the Nanoha movie and Ika...well, just Ika...made the decision in the end...

I do, but given the amount of names you mentioned it brings to mind a few thoughts. The first being feeling sorry for those in the back of the line. The ones having to wait for the other other other other round for examples. The second is the realization that those other rounds could also contain stronger names that would still cause me to pass on X.

I know that feeling. Voting for this round was especially tough on me. Somebody I really wanted to vote for is going to be 4th-voted or 5th-optioned, and from a voter's perspective that means the same thing as being 12th-manned, 13th-womanned, 19th-most-liked, or 20th-favorited: no vote. My character has felt the full force of that. Getting down to six was a tough chore and getting it down to two was even tougher.

In the end, my votes went to my character, the Card Captor, and Azumeow. Haruhi got 4th-voted and I had no choice but to punt it away.

Wow, Ika-Musume did great! A 3-way tie for 4th place with Haruhi and Lafiel, so that means I'm going to draft either 4th, 5th, or 6th - I don't recall how ties are broken in the first round. Either way it'll be the highest I'd ever drafted in the second round. Thank you for those that voted for Squiddie!

Nice, I didn't expect Akari to take it to the top.

Hitagi landed in the middle of the pack, which is fine considering the wave of new characters from this past year and the rest of the other usual suspects of Round 1. Some characters performed better than I expected, while some didn't get as many votes as I thought I would. It's also nice to see a couple of former picks do well (Motoko, Holo). I thought Hina - the first pick I ever made - would fare a little better, though.

The draft pretty much goes as the VA one now, with snaking rounds. Just remember you can only pick characters from series that you've not picked from before. (So no more Gundam Seed characters for you)

dunno1 will determine the order and then we can start Round 2. The Round 1 voting serves two purposes: a) to determine the order for Round 2 and the actual start of the drafting phase, and b) it also counts as a scoring round in the voting stage.

Drafting thread is here (http://www.mania.com/aodvb/showthread.php?t=105425), when your turn comes up, make it the same way you did in the VA Draft. Once everyone has gone, we reverse order, just like in the VA draft.

Unlike the VA draft, a single thread is used for the entire draft, instead of multiple threads

Pretty much what Fudce said, but I will add in the caveat of being careful at the bottom points where the snake turns. The last person to pick in round 2 goes first in round 3, and has the same 24 hours to make BOTH their picks. The same will be true if you have 2 picks back-to-back for any reason, including a sort putting you as, say, last in round 7 and first in 8. (This is the only way it will happen- last in one round and first in the next.)

Only my vote for Kirino Kousaka and eight for Kuroneko. I knew the hate for Kirino was there, but I didn't think it was this bad. I could have drafted Haruhi and likely still picked up Kirino in round 2. But I wanted Kirino bad enough to take her first.:sweat:

And conversely, I would've voted for Akari if I had a fourth vote. But I'm glad that she ended up winning the round. She's a great girl and a great character and deserved to win.

I knew the hate for Kirino was there, but I didn't think it was this bad.
Quite a lot of us like Kirino, but there are only three votes. I'm betting she was shortlisted for quite a few people but round one is just too harsh. She could have done well in a later round, especially if there wasn't another OreImo character already listed for that round. But two of my three votes went to tsuntsun characters as it is (Haruhi and Taiga), so Kirino was just stepping on some much more well-established toes in that character type.

Congrats to EB for winning the battle of the PMs and the votes for this round. Akari was on my Pick Six, but failed to make the final cut for me. And thanks to the ones who voted for Yui. For the second year in a row, my entry pick got dinged by having to go up against someone else from the same anime. But at least this will give me more time to settle on a theme as I have four possible themes and Yui fits into all of them.
