Please use this thread for drafting your characters. As noted in the rules, while not mandatory, it makes this MUCH easier if you could list the title when you pick as "round.pick Character (Series)", though you can drop the quotes. The score after round 1, and the drafting order for round 2, is:

This is a first for Osaka. After being a entry card every year since the beginning of the draft in 2004, Osaka did not wind up on someone's entry card this year.:sweat:

Currently, the longest entry card streaks belong to Sakura Kinomoto and Haruhi Suzumiya (every year since 2007 including this draft - Haruhi debuted in the drafts in 2007).

Taiga was my first choice though Holo was close behind. I sort of expected Holo to be picked, but not Ika-musume or Zakuro!

My first choice was actually Ika Musume herself. Although failing to get her helped lead to making sure I got Kuroneko. So I suppose it's a trade-off.

Round 1 does have some interesting people, but I can't say that I had planned to go for any of them (aside from obviously Ika). I do have some names in the back of my mind, but I'm trying to save the thinking for closer to my turn.

come to think of it i was mostly focus on having the Lacus that i've no idea would been my 2nd choice but i would pick maybe either "a certain almighty lord" or "yellow hair".

as for 2nd question have no idea on it really it main focus get the Lacus now mission done on that part just need to have some luck to see IF i can my 11 characters from different series come to my side.

besides this is my 1st time in the character draft.

Bwahahahahaahaaa, your kidding right? If anyone know my history, they know I rarely pick characters that anyone would want. Well at least not in the first round. Which is why I sent a list of two characters, period and that was actually only because I was flipping a coin to see who would be my first pick just before PM. Cut and paste back and forth I went.

So seeing I only knew 4 of the characters picked in the first round and one was mine and another was in the same show as my pick. Pretty much zero danger of others poaching my picks.

oops sorry on that already fix that i think besides really it my 1st time on characters draft yea sort of the rookie on this again.

besides at least it different than the va draft (give i'm taking anime character draft as another training to improve on the va draft) still got watch how the others in this draft does it cause looking at characters draft history lots of experience on it.

*sighs* Yeah. As for the prior mention of 3 males in a row, it ties the record since 2008, where there were 2 times 3 males in a row were picked. It happened again once in 2010. (So yes, we've beaten 2009 already.) There were a couple strings of 4 in 2007, but the record for as far as I have back (2006) is 7, picked all in round 8. 2006 also saw 2 strings of 5 males picked in a row.

Curt Menefee sucks (but at least he's better than James Brown, who's the worst of the three), but I'll play along because I want to be a good sport :bigsmile: . I can't answer the first part of your question because I was able to get my first choice - Ikamusume. So I'll answer the second part of your question:

The only characters in Round 1 that I was thinking about taking later were the Major and Fate Testarossa, but moreso I wanted to take the Major because she has more firepower. Plus I had her before in a past draft.

I should ask Nos if he's resuming his role of sideline reporter or not. He always asks good questions.

I managed to get my first choice - though expecting to get my first choice was another matter...my second choice was Yuki who I got in round 2, and my fourth and fifth choices respectivelly were picked in R1 (Hinagiku and Fate) with my third choice still there...so far.

What characters were you hoping to take later that went in round 1? Interestingly enough, I've considered both Sakura and Kero-chan for later round picks. While the odds of Sakura surviving the first round would be slim (after all, Sakura is a regular in the Anime Draft), I thought Kero-chan wouldn't be picked until later (although in the end, I thought wrong).

If the actual pick has to now be in the subject line, its shouldn't matter who is mentioned in the body of the text. Especially if there is no rule against it. And I hope this isn't because people think this is unfair to others that haven't drafted, because that is even more laughable.

I don't see it as stupid really, and while it's not a rule it's bad form to talk about undrafted characters in posts. As for signatures (and avatars) there's not really much you can do - but I don't see that as a problem as most people don't really pay attention to them anyway.

And no - I do not have undrafted characters in my signature, I don't even mention a character by name in my sig, just the word 'Hamster', which is refering to Ayumu Nishizawa, who is drafted. By me.

Well, I wasn't really hoping to take her later, I knew she would also go in round 1, but I would have really liked Haruhi in my team this year. I kind of expected Hina to not do as well in round 1 as she did for me last year, but I didn't want to risk not getting her for whatever reason.

Akari was my first choice this round, but I was debating it with Kuroneko, who ended up being my second choice and may have drafted her in a later round if she was still available (guess I shouldn't be too surprised she went early even if she's new)

I did get my first choice, so I'll skip that one, but as I previously revealed five other girls other than Holo went that could have fit my theme, but thankfully none of them actually ranked higher than my pick.

I had actually considered picking Taiga in round one, instead of Holo. My third choice is still available. The other characters I'd have picked later if available were Ika Musume, Azusa, Kuroneko, and Zakuro - probably in that order too.

Chapter 1: Mysterious Encounter

"Long Arch Command to Lightning 1, come in Lightning 1", the familiar Kansai drawl rang inside Fate's head as she flew over the Pacific Ocean.

"Lightning 1 here, no sign yet of the unknown energy signature yet." The Time-Space Administration Beureau maintains a constant watch for unusual energy signatures in the areas it maintains, and anomalies are investigated to make sure they don’t form a threat. Fate smiled a bit, realizing that this was exactly how the TSAB first became involved in her life.

“Sir, approaching estimated coordinates of anomaly”, Bardiche’s emotionless tone was detatched, yet still always a comforting presence.

”Thank you, Bardiche, please record all events from this point”

“Yes Sir.” Fate dived through the clouds, the anomaly having been detected near the surface of the ocean, off the eastern coast of Japan. Not too far from Uminari City, she thought to herself.

As she broke through the cloud layer, there seemed to be nothing but flat ocean, as far as the eye could see. “Long Arch Command, this is Lightning 1, I’m not detecting any anomalies at these coordinates. Are we sure this isn’t another false alarm?”
“Its beginning to look that way Ligh…” the transmission broke off in a burst of distorted noise, something that shouldn’t happen, considering the magical nature of the link.
“Long Arch Command, can you read me? Long Arch Command!” Fate attempted to reestablish the connection, but to no avail. “Bardiche, can you contact base?”

“No Sir, all transmissions are being blocked. Alert. Unknown energy signature detected. Does not match any known patterns. Midchildan. Belkan. Pattern is unknown” As Bardiche made the report, Fate felt a darkness close upon her. She began to climb back into the sky, but it was too late. A soundless roar came upon her, and all went black.

Off the coast of Japan, the empty expanse of the ocean was alone once again…

Mami was very confused. She’d been tracking a witch like normal, but well before she reached the witch, she found an unusual portal. It was similar to the ones used to enter the Witch’s Worlds, but not quite the same. But having reached an impasse, she passed through the portal. The passage felt different, in that it felt at all, usually it’s a sharp transition from the real world to the distorted landscape created by the Witch, but this time a soundless noise rang in her head, and her vision blanked for a moment. When it receded, she found herself here. Wherever “here” is, at any rate.

She looked around at her surroundings, while clearly not the real world, it didn’t feel like a Witch’s World. It didn’t have the same twisted wrongness, those worlds weren’t just unusual, they were “impossible”. Here it was just…different. It was a lightly wooded area, with a few seemingly abandoned buildings scattered around. However many of the trees were decidedly not normal, one she noticed seemed to be covered in bright purple feathers, though right next to it was a completely normal oak tree. Pulling out her Soul Gem, she’s surprised to see a reaction. “I guess there is a witch around here, so at least I’m not here for no reason” Turning around, she finds herself facing an abandoned building, “well, here we go”.

After about fifteen minutes of stair climbing, Mami finds herself on the roof of the building, but no Witch in sight. “This is very distressing”, she mutters to herself, and then looks up into the, oddly teal, sky. “Ah ha!” Far out in the distance, visible only due to magically enhanced sight, is what must be the Witch, flying towards her position. Reaching behind her back, she pulls a musket out of nowhere, and aims it towards the Witch, and pulls the trigger…

Fate emerges from the darkness, in the sky of an unknown world. The sky was a teal color that she’d rarely seen on any of the planets she’d visited, and looking down, the forest below her was clearly wrong. She saw earth oak tress next to Midchildan featherlets, next to trees she’d never seen before. “Where are we, Bardiche?”

“Location unknown, unable to connect to TSAB Dimensional Positioning System”, well, that was inconvenient. They must have been transported well out of TSAB administered space. “Magical energy reading detected, range 2 kilometers, bearing 135.”

“Is it the same as the energy that sent us here?”

“No sir. But pattern is unknown”

“Two unknown energy patterns? This is getting very suspicious.” Turning in the direction Bardiche indicated, Fate speeds towards the new anomaly.

“Warning, incoming fire” Bardiche’s dispassionate announcement was only a formality, Fate’s auto-shield had already activated, blocking the energy projectile effortlessly. “Assault originated at same location as anomaly”

“That’s hardly a surprise”, Fate quipped. Enhancing her vision a bit, she zoomed in on the remaining kilometer and a half, and saw an abandoned building. Standing on the roof was…a girl? A blonde girl with curly twintails, surrounded by what looked like dozens and dozens of rifles. As she watched, the girl grabbed two of the rifles and fired them at Fate, then threw them away and repeated with anther pair. “Now that is no way to greet someone”, as she dodges the incoming fire. “Bardiche, Harken Form”

“Yes Sir. Harken Form” Bardiche transformed, a bright yellow energy blade forming.

“Plasma Lancer!” Four energy bolts appeared around Fate, and then shot off towards the unknown girl. Fate immediately took off after them. But at this point Fate had reached close range…

Mami was quite surprised at how easily the Witch was dodging her attacks, but the return fire really shocked her. Most Witches don’t go for energy projectiles. But it wasn’t a big deal. She cartwheeled through the musket’s she’d spread across the roof, dodging the projectiles and returning fire. The large energy blast nearly got her, but she blocked it with several of the muskets. But as the smoke cleared, she saw that the Witch had nearly gotten to her…only…is that a Witch?

Most Witches look nothing like the humans they once were, their evil having twisted them into forms more appropriate for their desires, but this…this was a girl? Or rather, a woman. She looked to be at least five years older than Mami herself, with long blonde hair in twintails, a black uniform and a white cape. As Mami watched, the glowing yellow scythe in her hands reconfigured, the shaft shrinking down, and the blade portion splitting apart, and from the new hilt, a massive energy sword appeared. “Oh, that isn’t good” she muttered, and ripped the ribbon from her neck, and spun it around several of the muskets, transforming them into a gigantic pistol, even larger than the sword the mysterious woman was slicing towards her.

“Tiro Finale!” a massive blast erupted from the pistol, but almost immediately was split in half, cut by the unknown woman’s sword. The gigantic sword sliced through the gun, which then exploded with magical energy, throwing Mami backwards, hitting the fence at the edge of the roof. The sword altered its path, and thrust towards Mami’s neck, she closed her eyes and…

Cautiously she opened her eyes, and looked down to see the blade of the sword all but touching the left side of her neck. Looking up she found herself staring into a pair of large, deep red eyes. “I am Enforcer Fate Testarossa Harlaown of the Time Space Administration Bureau, you are under arrest for assaulting a TSAB Operative. Do you have anything to say?” The sweet, yet slightly husky voice washed over Mami, and she realized she may have made a bit of a mistake

I was expecting Akari to do fairly well since she usually does, but I think I'm pleasantly surprised by her actually coming out on top. She has a wonderful, sweet personality and great voice to match it, and I love her interactions with the rest of the characters. It's always fun to see her discovering more of the world of around her in Aria. Nagisa is a perennial favorite of mine to have on my draft team, but I decided not to pick her in the first round as it would be too predictable. I really did still want to draft her, so faced with suddenly having the first choice of the second round, she was the obvious choice for me. She and Akari are both sweet characters but they also complement each other since Akari is extremely sociable while Nagisa is rather shy.

Note: Freyja of SaGa 3 is a video game character with no anime version. As such, she can not be drafted, but that doesn't mean I'm not going to have her be part of the story anyway.


As for the story? Sadly, I'm not that creative, so I'll give the basic overview. Freyja comes from a world being threatened by a great flood caused by an evil force.

For the purpose of this story, we're going assume the ones that were supposed to stop the great force were incapable. Thus, it is now up to Freyja to gather together a group that will hopefully be capable of defeating it.

(Yeah, this is what you call ignoring a lot of the plot of the original)

Of course, this begs the question. As to exactly how some of the people chosen by her are going to be capable of even having a chance against that thing.

As for the theme, I'm going to let it create itself over time. Yeah, this means I'm taking the lazy way out. I have to think about that. With Kuroneko and Merry so far, what kind of theme does that give me?

Thanks. I was pleasantly surprised how well Ika-Musume did in the first round. I thought she would finish in the middle of the pack given as you mentioned she's from a recent show. But there was a good following of the series and the fact that Crunchyroll streamed it helped her cause in my view.

What did you like about her to take her in round one?

Ika-chan quickly became a favorite character of mine with her clueless attempts at world domination and her cute demeanor. But what I really loved about her was how well she interacted with the other characters in the series, mainly with Eiko and Chizuru. She proved to be a pretty lovable and fun character to watch.

Are you surprised Kaname fell to round 2?

No, not at all. Kaname's usually a second-round character anyway so I knew that she would be available, especially given the draft position I was in.

How are you expecting her to do?

I think she'll do fine. Full Metal Panic still has strong fan support after all these years so I believe that she'll get her votes.

I have to be honest, I feel like her series has lost a little momentum amongst the fanbase in the last year, or maybe just that a different character from it would have had a little more momentum behind them, so I expected her to do a little worse than last year's middle-ish finish. This is good, though, because it was boring being roughly in the middle of every snaking draft round last year. ^_^ Drafting her is definitely one of my rituals now, I guess, although these last two drafts have been the only ones I've been in (I think). My approach is basically... think of Hina... think of a theme that she fits... go!

I'm kind of hopeful that Tenshi will do fairly well in round 2, to be honest, even though her show isn't "out" in the West. Superficially, I guess there are characters who might take votes away from her, but I really like the emoetions behind her character, and I think she has deceptively wide appeal.

Considering that Azusa was also there that I think she stole a few votes that would have otherwise gone to Yui. If she were the only K-On! girl in the round, I believe that her showing would have been better. I was definitely expecting more from her since K-On! has been the talk of the town until I saw that she would be competing against another HTT member.

Absolutely, though some of them are not too far behind. Her moeness is off the charts the way I see things.

I am expecting Alice to at least do better than Yui. Matching Akari's performance would be a tough task considering that she is not a lead, but I believe she will do very well since Aria is such an awesome anime that everybody needs to watch.

I'm a little surprised to how well The Major did in round. Was expecting to be near the bottom of the top 20. Just shows that people in the forums like the Major for her brain and maturety then most of the moe or jailbait girls in round 1. Inregards to picking Kira in round 2, I recently picked up the Death Note Boxset, and enjoyed Light ability to outsmart other characters in the show, while pretending to innocent. Still think that L is overrated IMO even though I have previous drafted him. Also Light will fit nicely in my theme that I will building in the 12 Rounds.

Ore Imo is a series that deals with a girl named Kirino that has a hobby as an otaku and how this effects her life. Kuroneko is one of the characters that Kirino eventually interacts with.

Kuroneko is also an otaku, but she tends to prefer more complex stories and darker ones. Cutesy magical girl series are not her thing. Darn it, it's hard to decide what to say since I worry about spoiling.

As for why I chose Kuroneko? Her design is awesome. Especially the outfit that she normally wears. Her interactions with Kirino are great. She also has some rather amusing comments to make.


The chance that the voting for this round will come before Yumekui Merry finishes airing isn't of a concern for me. Especially since my main goal is to choose characters I have a strong love for.

It goes without saying, I was only able to wait a single round before drafting Merry. In all seriousness, I tend not to think in terms of "I'll wait until round X to draft a character"

It's more along the lines of taking it one round at a time and trying to decide on the character that will be chosen now and not put in the "hope they don't get picked later" pile.

Merry is an example of a strong new favorite. The type of character that wins me over very fast when she's introduced. Thus I had a strong desire to draft her. The need to make sure she was part of my team and not taking any chances is why I chose her so soon.

I was planning to skip the draft this year but had a change of heart after thinking up a potential theme. Taiga was in the shortlist of characters that fit the theme and the one I believed had the chance to do best in either the fast polls or first round. Since dunno reported that there were already 17 or so entrants by the time I posted him my 5 selections, I expected there to be more than 20 participants.

Roy wasn't in my initial list but he fit my new theme better than some of the other characters. Of course it doesn't hurt that FMA:Brotherhood would be fresh in the minds of a lot of viewers and he did kick-ass in the last fight despite his handicap (though I can't say more without spoiling those who haven't watched it) I'm planning to draft more male characters this year after an all-female team last year. It's hard to predict how well male characters would do though and Roy might possibly have been an overdraft in an early round (He was drafted in the 6th round last year)

Coach Konoha, I have no idea Zakuro is :sd:. Care to explain more about her and her show for me? What made you decide on Paprika and how well are you expecting her to do?

Zakuro is the lead female from Otome Youkai Zakuro which aired October 2010. The show is about 4 young women that are half youkai, half human that team up with 3 military men circa 1890s Japan to deal with incidents involving spirits/monsters/the supernatural and promote cooperation between humans and youkai. Of course, there is also a darker plot afoot and a villain to deal with. All of the girls have some special power, and Zakuro's are combat oriented.

The 7 of them form male-female teams, and Zakuro has some issues with the whole thing. Humans in general have not been kind to her, she distrusts Western ideas, and her partner is terrified of spirits. Naturally, they argue and don't get along too well at first, but in this kind of show it never stays that way ;) Zakuro was pretty badass, and I appreciated her being standoffish and argumentative without resorting to hitting her partner all the time. Watching her and her partner influence each other and their relationship grow was a joy to watch, and it was definitely my favorite show of 2010. I was torn between picking her and one of the other girls but I figured the lead was a safer choice for the draft.

I picked Paprika because all of Satoshi Kon's works have been brought into the spotlight after his death. Due to that, I saw the movie for the first time a few months ago and really enjoyed it. Round 2 always has a lot of big name characters in it, so I figured I'd draft someone a little famous. I also wanted to throw some variety(the spice of life!) into round 2. And Paprika definitely represents spice. :) I have no clue how she'll do, since she wasn't in the draft last year, but probably middle or below.

well Lacus was now that something i would say something i've a personal interest on ever since being of GS era since 2004 even since watching GS series really it change me & got me more onto anime world yet Lacus really she just something more rare & unique than any other anime characters.

besides i'm still WOW give most of all her voice in english really still WHAT her english va was only 16yrs the same age as Lacus in GS dub than even more then again on GSD for 18yrs Lacus really overall i've love the Lacus.

Due to work and conversation with another mad Brit, stayed up but too tired for my usual story stuff, so will do that in the morn - but to reveal the team is B.A.D meaning Bad Ass Damsels - each members is cute, but god you don't want to run into them in a dark alley - each with a different ass kicking ability and/or weapon.

So to make Sakura-chan's magic staff, here we have alien manipulation in the form of Yuki Nagato from Haruhi.

Coach SoTS, congrats on your second place finish in round 1, I know you were surprised Sakura fell that far to you, did you just add her to your list just to ensure you didn't skip her? How excited are you to get her? Since Yuki was your second choice, how excited are you to get her in round 2? I'm looking forward to reading your stories again this year.

Indeed - I actually was not even gonna even try because I didn't think I'd get her as I didn't get in straight away, but did it JUST IN CASE. To say the chances of less than 1% I thought I'd get her - it works sometimes just to be lucky than good. ^^

Yuki was indeed my second choice - and I'm very excited especially considering her role in Disappearance - Yuki is now officially my favourite character of the franchise. Both are cute badasses but whilst Sakura is innocent cute, Yuki is just got this beauty that you can draw yourself into...before she sheds you to ribbons. :)

And yes, story on the way - prob is I'm also doing reviews! And a Valentine's Day murder mystery...Gah...too much writing!

My plan is to have no plan. Seriously, I do have names in the back of my mind. However I prefer not to think that heavily about who I am going to draft next until it's either my turn or I conclude that I should use a proxy.

It goes without saying that names will get removed from consideration when it's no longer plausible for me to draft that person. Either because someone else got the person or because I went for someone else from the same series.


Also, my choice can easily be effected by mood and timing. As such the choice I might make at 6:00 AM may be different than the choice I would have made at 6:00 PM. Or they could be the same.


There's also the idea of things like "Wow, that scene in episode X involving character Y was awesome" leading to an increased interest in wanting to draft the character in question.

I prefer to draft characters based on how I feel about them not how others feel about them. My desire is to have a team of characters I have a fondness for.

I have no particular theme, I prefer to let the theme build itself. The closest thing I have is pretending that these characters have been chosen to defeat a being that's causing a great flood.

Which to be honest is a silly idea since while for example Merry might be capable of battling it, I doubt Kuroneko would be effective. What am I saying? Kuroneko would probably do 999 damage a round to it merely by being awesome!:P

Going with an all weapons/badass theme - either the characters will specialise in an ability and/or weapon, or specialise in something more obscure to help said badass army. But the other part of the theme is that they have to appear quite innocent. Sakura and Yuki (magic/staff/cards and alien manipulation/deus ex machina) start well, but going to more weapons users from next pick. Also, I'm limiting myself to one weapon/ability user per round, so that means I can no longer use a) any magical girls or b) any alien characters who can kick ass and do almost anything...

...yeah, can't think of anyone other than that. ^^

Ika-chan is fed up with the humans polluting her oceans and wants to exact revenge on humanity. But she's too clueless and naive to do it alone - so I volunteered to assist her by forming a team than can help her achieve her goal of world conquest. It'll be a mix of characters with weapon skills, special abilities (like Kaname Chidori's "Whispered" ability), magical abilities, intellect, and the like.

I, as I stated in my Round 2 pick post, have a theme. I won't explicitly state it yet, but I will say that it is both very specific, and surprisingly general. I do plan to continue the story I started, and there will be clues hidden in it, if anyone is curious (not that I expect them to be). I am not at all trying to win, as later picks will make abundantly clear.

As for guaranteed votes, I'm not really sure yet, I haven't really contemplated the rest of the field enough yet.

Even going up against Kuroneko, I did not expect Kirino to fall as horribly as she did. I am quite excited to get Ryo after finally getting Princess Nine after last year's draft. I expect Ryo to do better than Kirino, and I see one opponent in Round 2 that I will be voting for that provides for an interesting show. It's Home Run Girl vs. The Lightning Ball in this round.

“Um…sorry, but I heard Tomoyo-chan got into another team this year – she said your team was more fun though…she didn’t say why, just laughed a little…” Sakura said nervously.

Curses, you figured out my master plan! :P Actually, it's because I (Like Fudce) prefer to draft whichever one of my favorite cops in the second round. Besides, I wanted to use a character from another show that I liked as my entry character.

I don't know much about Sae, what can you tell me about her and her show?

Sae comes to us from Hidamari Sketch, a show that centers around the doings of her & her three friends/classmates at the Hidamari Apartments (Where they live during the school year) & at their school, Yamabuki Arts High School. It's a bit different from a lot of shows that I've seen (I.e. no mecha, car chases, traffic cops, high drama, etc.) but I found it to be quite enjoyable & hopefully I'll get to Hidamari Sketch X365 fairly soon. Sae is a second-year student at the arts school & is also a budding writer on the side (Which can be a bit challenging when your friends are coming over a good part of the time). I also found her to be quite adorable (Mainly because she wears glasses as I do) & that's why I chose her.

Our first party member was a girl named Kuroneko of Ore Imo. I'm sure her awesome commentary and dark aura will be a great asset. (Yeah, I am so kidding myself here)

Our second party member was Merry Nightmare of Yumekui Merry. She's a strong fighter and her name is Merry Nightmare! With a name like that, it's impossible to not being awesome.

For our third party member and the choice for this round, we're going with someone that should make for an effective mage. As such, Yagami Hayate of Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha As and/or Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS has been chosen.

You know, I'm starting to sense a potential pattern with the first three choices. So that begs two questions. How long before I break it? Will an alternate pattern take its place?

I'm still surprised I managed to get Haruhi in round one, what with accidentally being a little late for the draft's start. To get both her and Osaka is pretty amazing!

Considering how loaded round one was (as it always has been), Haruhi getting fifth was right around where I expected her to be. As for Osaka, I think that she should fare very well in her round, even though the competition is looking pretty tough.

Chapter 2: The Dark Evangel

Fate watched as the girl opened her eyes, they darted around in seeming surprise, before focusing in on Fate’s face. There was a tinge of anxiety within their golden glow, but it faded as the girl put on a bit of a half smile. “Mistake identity you say? Who did you think I was?”

“Not who, but what. I thought you were a Witch, and this a Witch’s World. It seems I was mistake. My apologies. My name is Tomoe Mami, a Magical Girl contracted to Kyubey. You said your name was…Fate-san? What is this “Time Space Administration Bureau?” The girl continued to smile, faintly, but genuinely. Fate lowered Bardiche from her neck, and returned it to device form.

“The TSAB is in charge of administering all of dimensional space, we do not have explicit authority over Earth, though several of our members come from here. I don’t know what these “Witches” you refer to are though. Bardiche, have you ever…” A bone shattering roar interrupted Fate’s questions, and she saw Mami’s eyes dart over her shoulder, and her face go deathly pale. Turning around, she sees what shocked the girl so much. The sky behind the building was what looked to be torn open, a ragged edge gash, revealing a sickening nothingness behind it. And from the gash was pouring monsters like she’d never seen before.

Mami watched in horror as the sky literally ripped open, like so much wrapping paper, and monsters began pouring through. The woman who’d beaten her seemed to realize something was wrong, and spun around. “Fate-san, I think our questions for each other are best saved for later, these new guests don’t look very friendly, do they?” Grabbing one of the muskets still sticking out of the ground, she stepped up next to Fate. She looked up at the taller woman, who nodded her head in acknowledgement. And with that, the monsters were upon them.

Fate and Mami’s battle raged, the monsters scales were no match for Bardiche’s blade, but their sharp teeth and claws could slice right through barrier jackets. Fate had several gashes on her arms, while Mami had taken what could be a serious injury to her right leg, but still they fought. But no matter how many of the monsters they killed, even more spilled out of the tear in the very fabric of space. “Fate-san, we have to close that hole, somehow” Mami called out, as she blew two of the monsters out of the sky. “Do you have any magic that can do that?”

“I have something that might work, but it takes a while to set up, I don’t think you can keep these things off of me long enough to do it.” Fate gasped out, as she sliced three of the creatures in half with her zanber. “If we could just stop them for a minute, I think I can stop them. But as it is, I can’t even get into the air without them piling onto me.”

“Oh, you need these stopped do you?” An unknown voice rang in Fate’s head, glancing over at Mami, she seemed to have heard it as well, judging by the way she was looking around confused. “I think I can handle that, Midchildan Battle Mage. Then you can seal the breach. But first you are going to want to put up a barrier for yourself and your friend. Its about to get very cold around here.” The voice was very young sounding, younger even than Mami, yet had an air of authority in it, it reminded Fate of her mother, a little bit.

“Mami, stay close to me, I’m going to put up a barrier, but it won’t hold for long against these things, so hopefully whoever that is knows what they are talking about.” Holding Bardiche in her left hand, she throws her right hand forward, a yellow magic circle forming in the air. “Protection!” Fate and Bardiche say at the same time. A transparent yellow dome forms over the girls, causing several of the monsters to bounce off, but they immediately start clawing at it. “Whoever you are, do whatever it is you’re going to do, fast!”

“I’m right here, so don’t get your panties in a twist.” In front of the barrier, a young girl floats down from the sky. Wearing an incredibly short black dress, golden blonde hair billowing about, her bare feet not quite touching the ground, she looks over her shoulder, brilliant blue eyes glowing. “The Dark Evangel is here to save your pretty little behinds, so watch and learn!” with that she smiled, and Fate could see that inside her mouth were two fanged incisors.

The girl started to chant, “Lic Lac La Lac Lilac!” The word that followed were in a language Fate had never heard before, but somehow she was able to understand them anyway. “To Sumbolaion Diakonētō Moi, hē Krustallinē Basileia! Epigenēthētō, Taiōnion Erebos, Haiōnie Krustalle! Pasais Zōais ton Ison Thanaton, hos Ataraxia!”, “Heed the Contract and Serve Me, Queen of Ice! Come, Unending Darkness, Eternal Glacier! Bring Death to All That Has Life, Eternal Rest!”. As the girl chanted, cold wind started to blow all around, reaching even into Fate’s barrier. By the end of the chat, ice had formed, and covered the entire building. The monsters themselves were freezing, forming a huge sheet of ice stretching across the roof, and down the sides of the building, the monsters falling out of the sky, huge chunks of ice with monsters embedded in them crashed to the ground, and into the roof of the building.

Fate realized she’d seen this once before, over ten years ago, at the end of the Book of Darkness incident. But then it required a special device, built solely for that purpose, it should be impossible for someone to do this spell unaided. It was possibly even more powerful than the Durandal’s Eternal Coffin, though Fate found that nearly impossible to accept. As these thoughts rushed through her head, all the monsters had been frozen, there was even a solid sheet of frozen monsters leading up to the tear in the sky. Finally, the girl turned towards them, and smiled, those fangs glinting in the light. She snapped her fingers “Kosmikē Katastrophē!”, “The End of the World!”. With those last words, the ice shattered, destroying all the monsters in a single moment.

Fate released her barrier, “Bardiche, Sealing Form!” Bardiche transformed into a mode she hadn’t used in many years, golden wings of light sprouted from the shaft, the blade portion rotating upwards. Putting her left hand up towards the gash, a large magic circle forms, muttering a brief incantation, she thrusts Bardiche at the circle. “TRIDENT SMASHER!” three huge beams of energy shoot towards the gash, which begins to glow with a golden light. After a few moments, the light fades, revealing the sky, unmarred by the evil looking gash. Though still that very unusual teal color. With this, Fate collapses to her knees, breathing heavily.

“Fate-san, are you alright?” Mami limps over to Fate, heedless of her own injury.

“I’m fine, just a bit winded. We really need to be concerned about you. Unfortunately I’m not very good at healing magic.” Mami looks down at her leg, and suddenly seems to realize how bad it actually looks.

They mysterious girl walks over to them, her bare feet crunching the ice remaining on the rooftop. “Well, this is a fine mess, isn’t it? I try to visit my resort, and instead I find myself here, in the middle of a raging battle. Got my first choice, was very surprised she was still on the board, as for potential picks for later on.. was hoping Horo would slip to round 2 but she ended up 3rd in the first round.... Fate and Hitagi were others I was hoping would slip but that didn't happen.

Coach Westlo, Lafiel's my favorite female character, what do you like about her to get her in round one? Why have you not taken Lelouch before this time? Just bad timing, not fitting in your theme? What qualities made him your second round pick?

Lafiel is pretty much the complete package when it comes to anime characters and I also really like her relationship with Jinto as well. In addition to being one of the best anime characters I've seen she's also my fav Kawasumi Ayako performance.

As for Lelouch I was never able to select him because he has been selected in Round 1 for the previous two drafts (and performed quite well), so definitely a case of bad timing. He's my second round pick because he's a character I really like, someone I haven't picked before (same as Lafiel) and someone I think will poll well.

My gameplan is to pick characters I like and go for the win, I'm also trying to pick up characters I haven't had a chance to draft before.

And that one character would probably be Shana, I drafted her in the last 3 drafts so it's an easy choice to throw a vote that way.

All of the above, kind of. I have a set theme this year, and save for the potential rare pick based purely on looks. As for winning, while it was an objective alongside having fun with drafting characters in the last two years, it's now more of an afterthought since I won last year and I'm not dead-set on achieving a repeat victory. This time I'm more focused on picking characters I like that fit my theme.

Chances are that Lelouch - my lead-off pick last year - will procure a vote from me.

Coach BB, Hitagi's one of my favorite characters, what do you like about her and did she do as well as you were expecting? What made you decide on Shana in round two? How are you expecting her to do in the voting?

I watched Bakemonogatari last year during our bi-weekly anime club screenings, and Hitagi is a cool beauty that has enraptured me since Episode 1, with her attitude, wit and sleek purple hair. And her outfit in the second story arc. And the post-shower scene. :nosebleed:

Hitagi met my expectations, given (some of) the usual heavy-hitters present, new popular characters that are fresher in the minds of some, and that it's been a few months since the last episode of Bakemonogatari. I would've liked to see her do a little better - I'd like all of my characters to do well, really - but I don't mind if a character hits the middle ground in votes.

I picked Shana because I saw it as an opportunity to pick a new character. She's a fiery one - she's cute, but knows when to get down to business, and does it well. I love the look of flame-haired Shana.

I'd like to think that Shana will do reasonably well, but once again, I like to keep expectations reasonable, so I don't set myself up for disappointment.

Evangeline is one of my favorite Negima characters (she shares the spot with someone undrafted, but quite a few people here know who she is), and she's the kind of character I really like. She's pretty much always got herself together, and is supremely confident (with perfect justification) in her power and place in the world. Some probably think that throwing her into an actual story like I did, and having her debut with Kosmikē Katastrophē sucks the tension out of things, but I think it will work well. She is one of the few characters I plan to take whom I was actually worried would get drafted before I got to her.

Perrine, while not my favorite Strike Witch, is still a lot of fun. I especially love her tsundere nature, and the fantastic voice work by Sawashiro Miyuki, especially the way she growls when she gets her dander up. As for why I chose her now, I have a large group that will end up together, and I decided to take Perinne first, since she's probably the most popular and well known of them.

Even going up against Kuroneko, I did not expect Kirino to fall as horribly as she did. I am quite excited to get Ryo after finally getting Princess Nine after last year's draft. I expect Ryo to do better than Kirino, and I see one opponent in Round 2 that I will be voting for that provides for an interesting show. It's Home Run Girl vs. The Lightning Ball in this round.

Don't forget that Natsumi has a pretty decent fastball herself. ;) Plus, considering that a certain masked vigilante is rookie-league compared to Ryo this should be a very good matchup. BTW, thanks for the vote! :)

Chapter 3: In The Invisible Sky

Evangeline ignored the expressions on their faces and kneeled down next to Mami, who was obviously favoring her left leg at this point. “You, sit. We need to get this taken care of. I didn’t rescue you just to have you bleed to death”. Mami finally seemed to realize how bad her wound was, and sat down gingerly, obviously starting to feel pain. “Now unfortunately, I’m not particularly good at healing magic, for rather obvious reasons, and I doubt this Midchildan mage could heal her way out of a paper bag. Fate started a bit at that, but motioned agreement that she couldn’t help. “So how about you, Miss Magical Girl?”

Mami grimaced a bit as she stretched her injured leg out, “yes, I can do healing magic, but unfortunately I can’t use it on myself. I’ve tried in the past, it just doesn’t work.” She peered at Evangeline, “you aren’t a Witch are you?”

Evangeline chuckled at that, “I have been called a witch, I was once even burned at the stake. Not a pleasant experience, if you’re curious, but no. I’m not the kind of Witch you probably think I am. But that’s for later.” Ending the conversation, Evangeline tugs off Mami’s right boot, and then strips off the tattered remains of her thighhigh. With the bloody sock out of the way, the wound looked bad. A slice running from just below her knee on the right to halfway up the top of her thigh, with blood still pulsing out of it. “Oh this is not good at all, but I think I can deal with it.” And with that, Evangeline lowers herself over Mami’s leg, and begins to lick up the blood. Mami turns bright red in shock, while Fate blushes nearly as much.

“Ev…Evangeline-san, what are you doing?” Mami manages to get out.

“Well, as you may have figured out by now, I’m a vampire. And that spell I just used is no joke, so I’m feeling a bit peckish.” She looks up, a bit of Mami’s blood spilling from the corner of her mouth. Behind Mami she can see Fate trying to decide whether to look away or pull Evangeline away. “But that’s not the only thing, one interesting side effect of being a vampire is that our saliva has slight disinfecting and analgesic properties. Its not as good as full on medical treatment, but it will reduce the pain and help prevent infection.” As she looks up again from her “treatment”, she sees Fate still trying not to look “oh, you remind me of someone I know, she’d have this same reaction. Anyway, we’ll need cloth to bind the wound, find something.”

Fate looked around the rooftop, covered in melting ice and chunks of monster corpse, and then sighed to herself and pulled off her cape. “Bardiche, Harken Form”. Using the energy blade, she cuts strips off of the cape, and brings them over to Evangeline, who looked to be finishing up. “Here you go. My name is Fate, Fate Testarossa Harlaown, an Enforcer with the Time-Space Administration Bureau” She handed the strips to Evangeline, who starts wrapping them around Mami’s leg. “I have a question…Evangeline”, she hesitated a bit, but moved onwards, “while I’m not from Earth, I lived here for some time when I was young and…as far as I know, Vampires don’t exist.” Fate actually looked somewhat sheepish at making the admission.

“I’m not surprised you think that, considering what has most likely happened to bring us here.” She looked down at Mami, who was feeling her leg, and pulling her boot back on, “in fact, I’ll bet you’d never heard of the ‘Witches’ this girl here...”

“Mami, Tomoe Mami”, Mami interjected as she pushes herself to her feet

“Ah, that Mami here referred to, correct? And Mami, I’m sure you’ve never encountered a Vampire, or heard of the Time-Space Administration Bureau, have you?” Both Mami and Fate nodded. Well that’s because…a roar off in the distance interrupted Evangeline. “Oh that’s not good, We probably shouldn’t hang around here much longer. Both of you are capable of flight, correct?”, another nod from both the other girls. “Well in that case, lets get to somewhere a bit less…messy, and we can discuss it more on the way. With that, Evangeline floats up in the air and starts heading westward, towards the setting sun. Fate and Mami look at each other, and Mami smiles and gives a faint shrug and jumps into the air, followed by Fate. Behind them, to the east, another roar emerges from the forest…

As she flew over the Adriatic Sea, Perrine H. Clostermann, Flying Officer of the Free Gallian Air Force and 501st Joint Fighter Wing, was growling magnificently. Right before her long awaited private training with the Major, she’d been told she had to go run a scouting mission over this completely empty stretch of ocean. It seems that the Orussian girl had managed to wake up long enough to report an anomaly, and then promptly went back to sleep, like she always did. Since the Major obviously couldn’t take the patrol, it was left to Perrine to investigate. But it wasn’t a total loss, it was a beautiful day for flying, crystal blue sky as far as the eye can see, and the deep blue of the ocean far below. It was as if the entire world was open to her.

As she enjoyed the feel of flying through the air, Perrine realized she was no longer alone, someone had joined her. No, not someone…something. She came to a halt, hovering in the sky, and spun around…and found herself mere yards from one of the witch-shaped Neuroi. It was impossible. The last time the witch-shaped Neuroi appeared was right before the hive had descended on Romagna, and none had been seen since. The shock at its appearance had flustered Perrine, and she belatedly snapped her Bren machine gun upwards, pointing it at the Neuroi. The Neuroi skittered backwards a few yards in reaction, and…shook its head? It then raised one of its arms and pointed off behind Perrine, before suddenly darting in that direction.

Still confused as to what was going on, Perrine followed, keeping her gun trained on the Neuroi ahead of her. “This is such a bad idea” she thought to herself, but something compelled her to follow the Neuroi anyway. After about twenty minutes of flying, the Neuroi came to a stop. Perrine looked around, but other than the Neuroi, there was nothing to see. The Neuroi raised its arms, and Perrine looked upwards, and a soundless roar filled her ears. The world goes black.

As her sight returned, Perrine realized they were no longer alone. In fact, she was in the middle of a raging battle. The previously empty blue sky was no longer empty, and no longer blue. A strange teal sky, meeting an orange colored ocean, and in this sky, Neuroi were engaged in battle. Hundreds, maybe even thousands of Neuroi, of all shapes and sizes, from the human shaped ones like the one she had followed, up to ones the size of battleships. But that was only the least of it, they weren’t fighting witches, or even fighter planes, they were fighting monsters. The creatures looked like some sort of wingless dragon, all teeth and scales and claws, but they still seemed capable of flight. They were mostly the same size, perhaps a bit larger than a human, though far in the distance she thought she saw something they may have been a larger non-Neuroi creature. But if there were thousands of Neuroi, there were tens of thousands of these monsters.

As these realizations rushed through her head, Perrine realized she was in the middle of this mess, and right then, several of the creatures seemed to suddenly appear before her…and there was no way to avoid them. But brilliant red beams erupted from behind Perrine, and blew the creatures out of the sky. Perrine turned to see the Neuroi who had led her here. She raised her gun and returned the favor by shooting down a creature that had appeared behind the Neuroi. “I can’t believe I’m saying this, but thank you.” The Neuroi didn’t visibly respond, but Perrine somehow felt…embarrassment? That couldn’t be right. Regardless, she was stuck here for now, and it seemed the Neuroi weren’t going to fight her, and they seemed more approachable than the monsters at least. “Well, lets get to this, shall we?”

The battle seemed to last for hours without end, though Perrine knew it couldn’t have been that long. She and her Neuroi had fought back to back, covering each other as they took out the seemingly never ending supply of monsters. The rest of the Neuroi fought just as hard, yet it seemed, as hard as it was to believe, that the Neuroi were losing. As she let out a burst of fire, taking out one of the monsters, she saw a massive Neuroi, at least the size of the Akagi itself, become swarmed with the monsters, and explode as they reached its core.

Her Neuroi friend was firing beams constantly, and seemed inexhaustible, which Perrine most certainly was not. But it, her, constant presence had become comforting and reassuring, something for Perrine to hold on to as she fought for her life as she never had before. But then, as Perrine turned to take out a monster that had appeared over the Neuroi’s shoulder, one of them slipped through the Neuroi’s web of beams, and Perrine watched in horror as its clawed arm shot through the Neuroi’s chest and out its back, destroying the red gem that formed its core.

“No…noooooooooooooooooo!” Perrine screamed as her companion, her friend, exploded into a million shards of light. Dropping her Bren, she grabbed her rapier from the scabbard on her Striker Unit, and chaged at the monster which had killed the Neuroi. She sliced right through the monster’s head, yanked the sword out, and sliced off a forelimb from another. A black fluid coated her sword, and spattered onto her face. Raising her sword above her head, she gathered her magic power, “Tonnerre!” brilliant blue lighting crackled from her body and gathered into the point of her sword, finally discharging into a huge blast of electricity, which took out dozens of the surrounding monsters. The burst of magic left Perrine winded, and a monster that had survived the discharge leapt at her, and she looked up to see its tooth filled maw descending towards her…

Coach William, not a surprise, but two characters I know nothing about. Care to tell me more about both of them, and why you decided to take them?

Di Gi Charat was one of the first nonsensical comedies I watched. Trying to understand it could cause brain damage :) Rabi~en Rose is an idol who is the rival of the main character. I just love her design. Long pink hair, bunny ears, large dice and ribbons as accessories, and a bare-shouldered maid/waitress uniform. Her real name is Usada Hikaru (one of the punniest anime names ever!) and she's really a very nice girl.


Yuki Sohma is from another quirky show, Fruits Basket. He's a pretty guy with lots of female admirers, but he's got a secret. When he's hugged by a girl, he turns into a furry little critter and fits into my theme perfectly :)

Coach SotS, are you worried that since Victorique is from a new show she may not get much support and what can you tell me about her? How excited are you to get Yomiko? She seemed to go in the fourth round last year too.

Victorique is my biggest risk definitely, but TBH she was an on the spot choice because I fell in love with this show and specifically her at first show. She is a sheltered little miss badass who is basically a pouty tsundere Sherlock Holmes. She's also utterly, UTTERLY adorable. Set in the 1920s, and basically locked in a library unless with permission thanks to a certain glory hounding brother, with 3 episodes already this is my show of the year. Mysterious, elegant, beautiful and yet also whilst harsh, quite childish and warm to her one true friend. I'm hoping that she can become good friends with my YAY combo.

Yomiko is someone I wanted last year as well for my Hetalia theme, but someone got her just before I did. R.O. D was one of the first series I got in the UK, and also a huge fan of the TV series. Yomiko has got a great bookish *pun intended* charm, where she gets so absorbed in her books yet can kick your ass with them at the same time. She's one of at least 3 old school favourites I intend to draft as well - this team is definitely going to be quite different from my previous ones. Victorique is brand new, Yomiko is older but not too older, but look forward to some of my later picks...

Coach Fudce, without getting into undrafted characters are Matoko and Nodoka your favorite characters from their respective shows? How are you expecting Matoko to do in the voting stage and were you worried with all the Negima fans you wouldn't get Nodoka?

Coach ape, I think I ask you this every year, but how much fun do you have making up your theme and picking?

Its the only reason I'm in this bloody thing. Its not like I'm playing to win, especially so out of the loop I can be and my rather unique tastes.

Plus if its a good one like this year, I can really get wild and discover new loves. This year Giroro was unknown until I checked out Sgt. Frog scouting talent and instantly fell in love with him. As for Menchi, it was was late night and I was hungry.

Coach Fudce, without getting into undrafted characters are Matoko and Nodoka your favorite characters from their respective shows? How are you expecting Matoko to do in the voting stage and were you worried with all the Negima fans you wouldn't get Nodoka?

Makoto's easily my favourite character in Kanon. She's both playful and loving, and she's cute too. I'm a bit worried for her getting votes, but I can just appeal to all of her fan to come out of the woodwork and show their support.

Nodoka wasn't my first choice from Negima, and my top choice remains undrafted, but picking Nodoka not only fits my theme (technically all Negima girls could) but also makes me smile. I wasn't really that worried that I wouldn't get Nodoka, since I pick earlier in this round than some others. She's not my favourite character. My favourite remains undrafted.

Taiga (Toradora)
Duck (Princess Tutu)

I'm drafting a theme, and if you haven't figured it out by now people really need to look closer.

Coach EB, what was your reasoning to take Yukari and are you surprised to get her in round three even though she was a round five pick last year? With Rue, she seemed to go a bit higher this year than the past two years, do you like her that much and just didn't want to miss out on her this year?

I'm just thinking on who would be an interesting choice for the particular round I'm in and not paying much attention to when characters were picked last time. Yukari was kind of a last-minute choice since I had decided on Sora beforehand and had little backup (since I was thinking the night before and was tired). She's one of my many favorites from AzuDai and a big part of the reason I love the show. Her interactions with her students and Nyamo are amusing. I've had Rue in my mind since before the draft when I was thinking about Jessica Boone's roles at one point. It makes me want to get Tutu out again to rewatch since it's been a little while. She has a really interesting story that was quite memorable to me.

Coach bci, two of the bigger names, how are you expecting Edward and Nanoha to do and what do you think Brotherhood and the Nanoha movie will help their popularity?

Yep two of the bigger names out there, and hopefully they'll give me that elusive round win that I came close to getting at the end of last year's draft. But moreso they're a couple of powerful characters than can help Ika-chan obtain her goal of world conquest. Though the two of them will probably most likely just want to be pals with her (especially Nanoha). I believe that Brotherhood's airing on Adult Swim and the Nanoha movie (which I'm ashame to say I haven't seen yet) will greatly amplify their popularity, of which I'm hoping will reflect positively for me in the voting stage.

Of the characters that have been drafted so far, who was on your list of characters for your first pick?

Kuroneko and Yuki Nagato were second and third respectively. I only had three characters on my list, so that is all.

Also, as I did with the first round, I'm not going to say anything on who I plan to vote for. I feel like keeping my votes in the "revealed when the results come in" camp this time.

So...Nodoka's books as weapons? ^^ If you were thinking a book girl theme I was doing, that is wrong for the reason I STATED MY THEME IN ONE OF BUCKEYE'S QUESTIONS...
Oh, I was well aware of the BAD theme since it was announced. It's just that with the "cute girls that could be dangerous" theme, part of me was thinking that Nodoka would be a possible candidate given her book of choice.

Of all the times for a draftee to draft somebody I wanted, it had to be the person before me! :cry: I was actually going to draft her in Round 3, but I wanted to avoid causing a vote-split situation between her and Tomoyo again, like I did two years ago.

At least I finally get to draft Kallen! For the past three years, she has either eluded my grasp or I was ineligible to draft her (drafted Lulu last year). But not this time!
