Mania Grade: B

In Summary:
Princess Resurrection is a wild and fast paced ride with some gorgeous designs and fantastic music tracks that paints a deliciously dark and energetic tale of an incredibly strong willed woman and the cast that she gathers around her as she fends off siblings who want her out of the way of the throne and those who simply want her blood. The tale will use a variety of the things that go bump in the night that man has written about and feared over the centuries and merge them into a world where they exist but are often subjected to the will of a royal family-a family that is now engaged in a war of succession and willing to use many of the creatures to their own end. It is far from a perfect tale but the positives that the feature brings to the table outweigh the negatives and combine to create an entertaining journey.

Not a bad show, but it suffered from being done by Madhouse's B-team (see also: Chaos;HEAd) and for the absolutely inexplicable decision to remove all the blood.

Hime was still a great character though, I especially loved her verbal sparring/UST with Reiri.

I couldn't even be bothered to finish it. I actually found it to be better than the manga, which I stopped reading after four volumes, but I don't think I ever even opened the second original Sentai set. I was just bored by it. The funny wasn't funny, the action wasn't action-y, the production values were lacking (what a complete waste of Kazuya Kuroda designs).

Well, kudos to folks who got enjoyment out of the show. It just didn't work for me.

I never finished it either.

It had its moments, like the haunted village episode, and some good characters, but I found it to be pretty mediocre overall so I never picked up the second half.

It was a fun monster of the week show to watch. In hindsight it could have been a bit better had it not altered some things from the manga, aside from the blood. Hiro doesn't glow anymore, which some stories used and had to be written around in the anime, the haunted/flooded town for instance. There were some scenes that were altered that I thought was much better in the manga, such as the end to Sherwood and Hime's first encounter.

But the anime also did some things better, in fleshing out stories or the world in general, such as the mermen and the people running the hospital. Where the anime faltered was in lack of development for Hiro after what occurred towards the end of the series. But after seeing how the manga storyline was at that point I guess they were stuck with having to keep him that way.
