The latest in the .hack series is a 3 part OVA with 3 of my favourite seiyuus Hanazawa, Sawashiro and Fujimura.

The .hack series have been hit and miss with me. .hack//SIGN was ok but dragged toward the end and I liked .hack//Roots but neither was what I'd call must-watch anime.

This, however, was awesome. Maybe it's the bigger animation budget, but it hooked me in from the first fight and the World looked amazing with very well done 3DCG. The real world wasn't bad either, with all 3 main characters quite likeable.

Hanazawa Kana plays yet another genki, bumbling character. Asumi (and her online character Sakuya) is just an infectious bundle of energy. It's like a cross between Fractale's Nessa and Occult Gakuen's Kozue.

Sawashiro Miyuki is her classmate Iori, the cool and smart one. She plays a male character Tobias in the World. Sawashiro gets to show both her female and male voices here :)

Fujimura Ayumi completes our trio of heroines. In real life, she's the pretty Eri (looks a lot like Konoka) while online she's the very hot Mary who will do anything to protect her childhood friend, Sakuya.

While adventuring, Sakuya messes up a guild's quest and ends up with a bounty on her head. Hiding from pursuit, she meets up with the mysterious Hermit, a character with a cat body who has a branch that can delete things from the World. From past experiences with the series, whether Hermit is really a real person or an AI remains to be seen. Bad things happen when he gets PK'ed though and poor Eri is still so protective of Sakuya.

I'm really impressed the production values for this series. Even for an OVA some of this stuff is film release quality.

This also brings back some of the same tension and reality blurring from .hack//Sign but at a much faster pace.

And of course, Hanazawa Kana :beatingheart:
