Vagrant Story coming to PSN Tuesday, March 1st 2011

Yep, another PS1 Square-Enix title finally hits the NA PSN. I've heard some mixed things about this one, but I'll probably pick it up. I wonder if this is going to be "a thing" every week for a while, since there's still Parasite Eve on the horizon.

I think of this game as the point at which "technically impressive" and "good-looking" diverge. It's definitely the former, definitely not the latter. Maybe it'd help if the PS One were capable of more than 320x240 for real games.

And I didn't have any fun playing it.

One of the few games that I still have from my PS1 days. When it came out, I played and beat it 3 times and haven't played it since.

1) Just to beat the game.
2) Play the extra, hard dungeon that is only available after beating the game once.
3) Just kill everything with my Excalibur.

It was fun for its time.

I think that Vagrant Story coming out on Tuesday is indeed a sign that this is the second week of an event in which a Square Enix PSOne game will be released on the US PSN each week (with Legend of Mana and Parasite Eve being part of this event as well).

I'd take Einhänder over that sacred cow any day of the week. Hell, I'd take SaGa Frontier over it. Now, I found Square's 2000 slate to be a near-total waste of material, mind you, saved only by FF9. But if I had to choose one game I would absolutely not put on my PSP, Chrono Cross would be a solid choice.

But if it happens, I'll cheer for you.

Oh, it's been awhile since I played Legend of Mana. If not for the fact, I hesitate about double dipping, it would be tempting. Ok, I guess the other time would be finding time to play it again.

Vagrant Story is one of those Square games that I heard both positive and negative comments about, but I never actually got around to trying it. And even with this, I still can't say that I ever will.

Anyway, Xenogears last week, Vagrant Story this week, Ridge Racer Type 4 in March and Parasite Eve sometime soon...PS1 releases really hitting hard so far this year! I need to invest in some US PSN credit again.

I remember really enjoying Vagrant Story up to a point, where there was a boss that I could never figure out. No weapon I had could damage it, and there wasn't any sort of hint (that I remember) as to beating said boss.

I'm not opposed to buying this and trying again though.

Either way, I've always wanted to try this game so this has potential in getting downloaded!

I see the other MLB game demo is going to be available. I'll try that for sure, cause I couldn't figure out the pitching controls in the Show Demo...:angry:

You might be thinking of one of the commercials for Legend of Dragoon. I never played the game and yet I remember a commercial (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qiFsT41AHg) along those lines existing.

Destructoid and Kotaku seem to be reporting that Vagrant Story will be up for the standard $5.99 PS1 Classics price tag. Interesting to possibly see a Square-Enix game up on the PSN without the requisite "Square Tax". I guess Vagrant Story isn't a big enough game to warrant it?

You might be thinking of one of the commercials for Legend of Dragoon. I never played the game and yet I remember a commercial (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qiFsT41AHg) along those lines existing.

Yup, that's it then...Ok, so atleast I'm not totally crazy for remembering that... :sd: I never played that game either but for some reason that one commercial is memorable. Thanks for correcting me! *jots Legend of Dragoon down on wish list*

The Legend of Dragoon was a very fun game and it was the game that got me into RPGs. I really wish Sony would release this one on the PSN Store and it shouldn't be too hard to do (they made game for crying out load).

Already got Vagrant Story last month. I hope they will put up Parasite Eve next week I really want to play that game again.

It's on the Japanese one. Has been for years in fact. Not too hard to just make a Japanese account and buy some JPN credit. Be warned though, once you see what's on the Japanese store, you may find your wallet drained :P

It's a little different but it's easy enough to navigate. You could always create a Hong Kong account - not quite as many games as the Japanese store, and most are in Japanese, but the store is all in English.

The PSP remake of what? Vagrant Story? What makes you think they're remaking it?

I have no idea, so I did a search and found for example this article (http://www.psxextreme.com/psp-news/1049.html).

It seems like they had some interest in the idea of doing one, but there's a huge difference between interest and actually doing.

Given that article is over three years old and as of current there has been no official announcement for a PSP remake, it's safe to assume the following. That they ultimately decided against doing one.

Plus, I get the following feeling. That for every ten instances of "We'd be interested in doing this game", you can expect maybe if you're lucky one of them to actually go into production. In other words, it's best to take any "We're interested in...." comments to not hold much weight at all.
