This weekend the highly-anticipated 5th Generation Pokemon games - Pokemon Black and Pokemon White - will hit the streets across retailers in Europe and North America. European Pokemon players will be able to purchase the games today (March 4), whereas the games will become available in North American markets this Sunday (March 6). I'm very excited and ready to play these games, and I'm looking forward to playing with the new Pokemon and checking out the new tweaks to the battle system (triple battles in White, rotational battles in Black). I have Black pre-orderd from GameStop and will get the White version at a later date.

Also, starting on March 6 and running through April 10 Nintendo will be distributing the Liberty Pass through their Wi-Fi Connection. This item will let you board a ship at Castelia City where you can travel to Liberty Island to catch Victini.

If you haven't seem my post on the shiny beasts thread, the phrase to unlock the Relocator in Castelia City is:

Everyone Happy
Simple Connection

I posted a simple poll just asking who your starter Pokemon will be. I decided to start with Oshawott, though I will eventually transfer the other two starters on my Black game.

I'm really looking forward to these games. While the minimal innovations in past games didn't bother me at all, I'm very excited to see how much they've changed things up in the 5th generation.

I'm getting White and going with Snivy as my starter. Not because of the whole 'Smugleaf' meme, but because I haven't used a grass starter in a while and I think Serperior is beautifully designed. While its attack stats aren't too hot, it has nice defenses and a decent move pool.

Can't wait for these games. I always get the water starter, which isn't going to change here.

My UK copy of Black arrived yesterday but I seem to have entered a parallel world in which there is no 3DS on the horizon as I currently have 3 DS RPGs, all released in the past month, to get through! (Inazuma Eleven, Dragon Quest VI and Pokemon Black) :P

As a result, I have barely had time to even think about which Pokemon to choose as my starter. Hoping to make a start with the game early next week

Version: Still up in the air (especially since I'm not watching the anime).

Starter Pokemon: I'm leaning towards Snivy at the moment, thanks to his resemblence to a certain character from Soul Eater.

I'm starting with Snivy in Black. I'm getting White as well, but I'm going to focus my attention on finishing Black first (though I'll start my game in White with Tepig so I won't miss out on any Wi-Fi events).

Version? No clue. I'll probably just decide by the time I get to the store.

Starter? Probably Snivy or Tepig. Haven't really decided on that either.

I was going to get this today at the Nintendo store in NYC, but I just missed the cutoff point in the line.

For the Japanese side I got Black and chose Snivy, tomorrow I'm going to get the white version and choose Oshawott for my starter. Strange as I like it's second evolution stage better than it's final.

I decided to go with Revolver Oshawott for my starting pokemon. I can't look at Snivy for more than 2 seconds without wanting to hit the smug bastard, and Tepig just makes me hungry for bacon sandwiches.

Just picked up both versions this morning from Toysrus. They have a sale buy 1 get 1 50% off all DS games. Which can be used for these so ended up with both games for $52.48. They also are giving away with purchase while supplies last for today only the kits with the stylus . cases , and cleaning cloth. Not sure who I am going to pick as my starters quite yet.

That's the reason why I went with Toys R Us when it came to which store to pick the game up at. I didn't see another game to pick up to take advantage of the 50% off offer (as the other DS games are either ones that I already have or ones that don't interest me). However, I am using the styluses that came with the kit to play this game.

I just got home with my copy of White. As planned, I'm playing as the girl and picked a Snivy. I named the girl Melinda, as it means "black/dark serpent".

This game is already very cinematic.

Got my copy of Pokemon Black from GameStop today. I'm using the girl character and named her Hilda, her English name. When I get White I'll use her Japanese name Touko. As planned I started with Oshawott (I named him "Otto Mann" after the Simpsons character), and the first Unova Pokemon I caught was a male Lillipup, which I named "Chauncey" after my late grandmother's Yorkshire terrier (the animal Lillipup is based on). Also in my party are Purrloin, Patrat, and Pansear (the elemental money that you receive in the Dreamyard if you start with Oshawott). Right now I'm in the Straiton City Gym trying to earn my first Gym Badge.

Considering the last Pokemon game I played was Red and Blue, I wasn't intending on playing this one. However today my friend hands me a DS and Pokemon Black and says "you're playing this one I'll handle White".

So is there anything I need to know about what has happened in Pokemon between the Red and Black that might affect how I play the game?

A lot - but it's mostly self-explanitory. The basics have remained the same (walk around, fight pokemon, catch them, and fight Hikers who have an unhealthy interest in young boys and girls)

Picked this up yesterday and chose the girl trainer as I was a boy in Black. I named her Mateo which is wrong on so many levels. Already got four gym badges and my party of level 28 consists of Zorua, Petilil, Pansear, Dewott, and Bouffalant. I cheated to get two of those as I traded them as eggs from my Black copy. But they know Dark Pulse and Iron Head thanks to Lucario and Mawile. I don't feel like waiting to obtain them. I also downloaded the Liberty Ticket, but I'm going to wait until I've gotten the national dex before I catch Victini, again.:P

Still love that TMs now have unlimited use. Also looking forward to April.

I beat the 3rd and 4th gyms today. Elesa is pretty. :3 I now hate Emolga, though.

My current party:

Panpour, Lv. 24
Tranquill, Lv. 24
Servine, Lv. 24
Throh, Lv. 24
Sandile, Lv. 27
Victini, Lv. 24

I thought it was a really nice touch how they worked Victini into the game's story arc by having Team Plasma target it in a subplot. It most likely only possible because they distributed Victini so early.

Thanks for letting me know about this deal. I had already reserved both games at Gamestop and was planning on picking them both up this Monday. But when I found out they didn't come with any special pre-order items that all the other Pokemon games I've ordered from them did, I decided to check out Toysrus instead and luckily found both games for that sale price. They ran out of the free kits though, which I don't really care too much about. Then I went back to Gamestop to get back the money I put down for the reservations. I also found out that I missed the Celebi event which I thought started on March 6 rather than ended.

I haven't started the game seriously yet but I already know I'll be picking Snivy based mainly on how its base form looks and not its final evolution (though I still think it's the coolest looking out of the 3) which has always been the deciding factor for me since Red and Blue. Bulbasaur, Cyndaquil, Treeko, and Piplup were the starters I picked in each generation. I've played only a few minutes of Black, which will be the version I play first, and I have to mention one thing that has irked me so far was the name change of the character Belle into Bianca. The former just seemed to fit the character a lot more naturally to me but I guess I'll get used to it.

Still love that TMs now have unlimited use. Also looking forward to April.
I'm also happy about this. I no longer need to spend 80 hours on one version just to harvest rare TM's to transfer to the other. Unfortunately, I'll still have to do that for Legendary Pokemon.

That annoyed me as well. I keep reading her name as Blanka. I just don't see her as a green beast throwing out electricity.:P

I picked up the White version over the weekend and have been hammering my way through it during evenings, lunch, and my commute. I really like the improvements they made to the interface. It's, of course, still Pokemon to the core, but some of the more annoying features are now gone (like only being able to register one item to the y button).

I lucked out and caught Victini on my fourth ball (great ball too), but I was kind of annoyed that he didn't come with Searing Shot. Ah well.

Lucky you. I had to restart my game save 5 times before I caught Victini (with a Quick Ball no less). Level 25 Zoroark was a lot easier to catch then Level 15 Victini in my game. Yeah I was also annoyed that it didn't have Searing Shot right away, but that's what those Heart Scales are for :sdsmiley: .

Anyway right now I have 7 badges and working towards the 8th one. The soundtrack is worlds better then the one in the prior games, and most of the new Pokemon's cries sound pretty cool. My favorite cry is Gothorita's, which I think is pretty cute. Gothitelle's cry is ear-piercing annoying, though.

Draneor

Course, since I only have one DS, I won't have any attempts on Zoroark at all, really. So it all balances out.

I definitely agree the remixes are excellent. I've always enjoyed the Pokemon music, but B&W took it to another level.

Well, I managed to win all 8 badges and activated the roaming pure Flying-type Tornadus (who doesn't look as imposing as depicted, but I haven't successfully caught him yet). Right now I'm at Victory Road working my way towards the Pokemon League and the end of the main story. Figured this would be a great way to train my Zoroark, Gothitelle, and Victini as I plan to use them heavily in the upcoming Elite Four battles. Plus I need to train a Fighting-type to go against Grimsley.

I just got stuck in a place where it was impossible to do anything and I was forced to turn the power off. Unless I was missing something, if two of your Pokemon faint in one turn of a Triple Battle and you only have one left usable in your party other than the one still remaining in battle, at the end of that turn, you have to choose a replacement for each of those two, so you'd choose the only possible one, but then for the second one you still have to provide a replacement and, of course, it won't accept the one you already chose, the one already in battle, or a fainted one, and you can't just proceed with one or zero replacements. Interesting. Other than that, I'm loving this game.

Finished the main story of Pokemon Black last night. The ending kind of fizzled but overall it wasn't too bad of a story. I had a tougher time beating N then the final boss Gethsis - I had to fingt N twice but still managed to beat him. Gethsis' Pokemon aren't as tough as I though - I defeated a couple of them without breaking a sweat (especially his Bisharp - it took one mighty blast from Reshirem's Fusion Flare to knock him out :P). Now I'm in the post-game - going after the Muskateer trio and transferring some of my stronger Pokemon from the 4th gen games over to Unova so I can challange the Elite Four again and try out the Battle Subway.

I had the toughest time taking down the Game Freak Developer in Castelia City. He's running with nothing but 75 level monsters and they kept one shot-ing mine once they got past my monster Zebstrika and Hydreigon. He was also very good at putting in the right pokemon to max damage my guys.

The most fun I had was daily ritual of beating down members of Riches family of Undella Town. Beat one and the next day you have to beat that one again plus another family member, all in roll!

Ah fun times.

Although it did seem like they were going for some romance when you (as a male) go on the Ferris wheel with the girl they have there. Definitely didn't expect that from Pokemon. N is definitely the most interesting character I can think of in Pokemon. Touka is the Japanese name for the female playable character, right? Wouldn't that mean the same romance would develop for the the male one? To be honest, I almost expected that at some point.

Anyway, I'm all done with White. Team Plasma is completely dealt with, the Pokemon League is completely defeated, and all optional areas have been explored for all their worth. It only lasted me a little over week, with 47 hours of game play, but it was really great while it lasted, even if I should have grown out of Pokemon in the last 13 years.

I've been on the sixth badge for a couple weeks now. But hey. The game isn't a race. So why not take it slow, explore everywhere, make some unrealistic trades[1], and level as many pokemon to 30+ as I can.

[1]At this point, every trade I've offered via the exchange has gone through, no matter how ridiculous. I've ended up with Zorua (female), all three starters, and a Tirtouga (female) all by offering common pokemon. Not to mention otherwise acquiring version exclusives as I come upon them.

Touka is the Japanese name for the female playable character, right?

Yes. When I play an RPG, I undo name changes whenever possible.

Although it did seem like they were going for some romance when you (as a male) go on the Ferris wheel with the girl they have there. [...] Wouldn't that mean the same romance would develop for the the male one? To be honest, I almost expected that at some point.

I would call it more a endearing friendship. I try to go to the Ferris wheel as often as I can because I really feel sorry for that poor maid; she said I was her only friend. :(

but it was really great while it lasted, even if I should have grown out of Pokemon in the last 13 years.

Meh. The nice thing about being a single adult is we don't have to grow out of stuff if we don't want to. :)

Got 2 badges and working towards the 3rd. God this is such a great and addictive game. I've been playing Pokemon since Red/Blue and I'm now convinced that each time a new one comes out I get more into it than the last one.

I'll probably put this on the back burner for at least a few days from tomorrow on as I'll be getting my 3DS, but this is definitely a game I'll be playing for a while to come :)

Yeah, weirdly I choose to play Pokemon games more like traditional RPGs, where I barely catch any Pokemon and focus more on training my party well enough (which was made much easier considering you get two Exp. Shares and a Lucky Egg relatively early on). I pretty much just have Pokemon given to me (starter, Pan/Simi Pokemon, fossils, Larvesta, Magikarp/Gyarados) and Legendaries or those presented similarly to Legendaries (Volcarona).

Against the E4, I used my Victini, Golurk, Samurott (Revolver), Unfezant (Lunch), Fraxure (Deena), and Thundurous. I had a big fun time with the ghost master since I had no real strong attacks against them except Golurk - who had the obvious ghost weakness.

If anyone was wondering, you can infect the shiny legendaries (Entei, Raikou, Suicune, and Celebi) with PKRS before using Relocator to transfer them over to Black/White. Certainly a very convenient way of spreading and keeping the "love" around in your 5th gen game.

This happened while I was playing the White version, but I haven't experienced the glitch on the Black version yet.

I'm just glad Crunch is Dark. My Simisear and Archeops both had it and were my highest level Pokemon after Samurott for the pre-N battle and still good enough to be left in my party for the pre-Alder battle, so that pretty much dealt with that. My Lucky Egg, two Exp. Shares, and my need to beat every trainer and even wild Pokemon that appears put me at a pretty ridiculous advantage during the later part of the main story, but after that, when they stop giving you mandatory training and all the opposing levels shoot way up, I was doing a lot of beating Pokemon with much higher levels than some of the ones I was using, and I was glad to have my ridiculous fortune to buy way more Full Restores and Revives than I could ever dream of needing. The worst part was Cynthia, with two weakness-free Pokemon, one immune to one type and the other immune to three. But after the Elite Four and Alder, my levels and items (and type advantages when they existed) got me through that pretty easily.

I experienced that same thing, only on a wild Double Battle. Even weirder. While that may work with the Double Battles, I definitely tried every possibility with the Triple Battle to try to get out of restarting (because I actually hadn't save for a while). It may also have something to do with it being a Trainer Battle instead of a wild Pokemon appearing.

60 hours and I'm done. My final party was Victini, Samurott, Zoroark, Haxorus, Eelektrik, & Virizion. Haxorus was replaced by Zekrom, when I acquired him. For the record, lighting is, in fact, my favorite type (followed by water). Speaking of, I was kind of shocked that Zekrom had such a high catch rate. I was preparing for a long process, and he gets caught on the first ultra ball.

The surprise ending wasn't really a surprise, since I had been spoiled on it beforehand. Still, I felt sorry for N. On the other hand, I did not expect Ghetsis really only wanted to be the only user of Pokemon and was just using N's ideals to accomplish that goal. Honestly, I think this needlessly simplified what would otherwise have been a pretty compelling story regarding the conflict between two different ideals. Heck. At times, I wasn't sure myself whether capturing Pokemon was the right thing. But hey. It is Pokemon.

I think Touka is my second favorite player character, after Hikari. The OST for this game was certainly my favorite so far. Shame they don't sell it.

Now, on to post-game!

I'm hoping they do a Celebi event again. It kind of pissed me off that it's required to get that cool wolf pokemon N uses.

You can easily trade for one on the exchange, if you want.

Yeah, Zoroa is easy to find - it's Rufflett and Vullaby that are more difficult (as you never encounter them at all on the opposite game)

Yeah, just tried that. I'm not that hard up to give up my legendary for it. I guess I'll have to check back every once in a while in case someone lists a sane offer.

Make an offer yourself. If you have a female starter or fossil, breed that. Otherwise, just pick any second stage pokemon. I bet you someone will take it in 24 hours (remember, one of the Pokemon is guaranteed to be female so they just need to breed it).

Reminds me of the Yellow arc (or Chapters, as they're called) of Pokemon Adventures. Not quite as selfish, but similar.

The OST for this game was certainly my favorite so far. Shame they don't sell it.
The Music Collection is sold in Japan. Over 100 tracks on 4 CDs. You can find it online. "Cheapest" I can find through a quick look is Play-Asia at $27.49.

Ah really? I looked on CDJapan, but I didn't see the OST for White/Black. I guess I'll need to look harder. ^^;

CDJapan's is at 2500 yen. That's become yucky in USD :P Did you search for "Pokemon"? While the item does say Pokemon, CDJapan titled it "Pocket Monsters Black White Super Music Collection" (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=ZMCP-5919).

Yeah. That was my problem--I didn't think to translate it back into Japanese.

I spend most of my time at work running back and forth fighting Audino - evolving my pokemon.

Soon, the only pokemon I wont have in my collection will be the Vullaby line, and the Black legends (well, except Reshiram, I somehow got one from the GTS, and it doesn't look hacked!)

I mean, if anyone has a Vullaby I can have for a Rufflett (the White exclusive), or would let me borrow their Tornadus so I can catch Landorus (and get Tornadus in my pokedex) just let me know.

I doubt it. This has been available to order since before the game was out, and there's still no word about a third one. I was a little disappointed at that, but at least I have the HeartGold/SoulSilver National Dex guide, so together they form what this should have been from the beginning.

Except we'll need to use online sources when looking up what new moves and abilities the first 493 learn. It could be that they're "forcing" us to pay more attention to the new Pokemon, especially since they're the only ones allowed in the upcoming Video Game Championship tournaments.

I'll continue to hope they'll publish one more book eventually. I always buy guides, as I feel that they're part of the set, especially in regards to Pokemon. And this just feels a little incomplete...

Oh yeah. Damn, I guess the guides are incomplete. But it certainly fits with the theme of focusing on the new Pokemon.

And I feel the same way about guides.

Has anyone else been using the Dream World? If I haven't put it to the side, I would have more than 1930 pts. now. I got NidoranM and Oddish as their abilities interest me the most for what I have currently have access to. I'm almost at the Sky and more interested in the berries there than the Pokemon.

And if I could ramble, I'm not too fond of the new berry planting mechanic. I can make dew of this but I'd prefer to plant them within BW rather than transfer them. It's also too bad you can't send your berries into the Dream World to plant them.

Also I wonder when they're going to connect the Eeveelution game to the global link site. For me while I love Jolteon the most, I chose Espeon just because it's ability interests me in comparison.

Love the Dream World. Wish we could track down friends though. I continue to hope that I'll be able to track down their network of friends from my network...

Well, as you get more beds, this method becomes a bit more convenient, as it requires less maintenance and, as far as I know, you'll always get five berries from a plant.

Also I wonder when they're going to connect the Eeveelution game to the global link site. For me while I love Jolteon the most, I chose Espeon just because it's ability interests me in comparison.
The game ends May 5th, so we'll hopefully find out by then.

Espeon was my first choice as well. I didn't think any of the other abilities made the other Eeveelutions significantly better competitively so it was a fairly easy decision for me. My 2nd choice (since I have both Black and White and can easily make a 2nd account) will be a bit more difficult though. I think I'm leaning towards Vaporeon since it also seems to have a great ability but I like Glaceon a lot more aesthetically even though its Dream World ability only makes it marginally better.
