I don't recall any mention of Funimation having Fafner ... it's quite possible that it hasn't be license rescued (yet)

It definitely has not been announced by FUNimation.

I doubt they're going to be in any rush to pick it up.

I worked my way through the Geneon singles late last summer and found it acceptable, but not great. It has the looks and visuals of a Gundam Wing or Seed but with an Eva type storyline, just not as good.

I'd put it on the same level as Argentosoma which also didn't exactly wow me either. If Funi does decide to put it out, they should probably go with an el-cheapo edition.

I'll respectfully disagree with Otakufan about Fafner. I think it's a great but overlooked sci-fi mecha series. The characters are reminiscent of Gundam Seed, but that's because both shows share the same character designer, Hisashi Hirai. Fafner is similar to Eva only in the broadest strokes, as in teens piloting mecha against alien forces, but numerous shows can be described thus.

All that said, as WTK has verified, Funimation has not announced a rescue of Fafner, so seeking out the Geneon singles to cobble together your own set is likely your only option for the time being.

Though it does improve greatly when it hits the halfway point and the original novelist takes over as scriptwriter. It's not because the progenitor of the source material knows what's best (Gunslinger Girl: Il Teatrino is a good bad example of this), but because it turned out that Tow Ubukata knew what he was doing while Kazuki Yamanobe... really didn't seem to. You can watch the episodes on Geneon's disc 4 (episodes 13-16) and actually notice things improve from episode to episode. It's both awesome and sad.
