View Full Version : Video Game Draft 2011: Round 2 Voting

It's been long enough and I'm awake enough to make it now, so here is round 2 of the voting phase. As before, vote for up to three of the characters presented in this poll. Vote for more than three and your votes don't count.

Now just wait a bit and hopefully (assuming there are no issues) the poll will be up in a bit. And the poll has been added, fulfill your destiny! Notice the obvious edit.

Well, so far I think I am familiar with more video game characters than anime characters. At least the ones that were drafted in each case.

Candidates this round: Pac-Man, Frog, Isara, KOS-MOS, Zelda (more the Spirit Tracks incarnation, ironically), Sephiroth.

Isara is an instavote this round. Frog is too, actually. I'd vote for Zelda, but I've never actually completed a Zelda game, so I don't feel qualified enough to vote for her. So who gets vote number three? It's between KOS-MOS and Sephiroth. Tough call, but I think KOS-MOS gets the nod because she's a fully playable character.

You know, I really really need to play Final Fantasy VI. I only ever got a few hours into it, so not enough to really get to know the characters introduced up to that point. But enough to know that it's my favorite Final Fantasy, despite only getting a handful of hours in. I must remedy this.

Pretty easy round for me, with me choosing Pac-Man and the girls of Final Fantasy VI.

It's definitely worth playing again. This game probably has the biggest amount of playable characters in any FF game, but it still has a great story and is up there on my list of the best games in the Final Fantasy franchise (with most of the characters having a good reason to get involved in the quest).

Characters I know
Duke Nukem (Duke Nukem 3D)
Pac-Man (Pac-Man)
Lara Croft (Tomb Raider)
Commander Shepard (Mass Effect 2)
Zelda (Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time)

Characters I've actually played more then few seconds of
Duke Nukem (Duke Nukem 3D)
Pac-Man (Pac-Man)
Lara Croft (Tomb Raider)

Damn that was easy, Duke is the king baby and Pac-Man would only have gotten turned down if someone picked Ms Pac-Man. As for Lara I could play for hours watching her ass bouncing from behind. I know I'm a sick sad puppy.

No questions asked votes:
KOS-MOS - Sexiest robot created. All hail version 4!!!!
Isara - No explanations if you played the game.

The hard choice vote:
It came down to either Sephiroth or Rita, but I've settled with Sephiroth. May as well go with a pure villian instead of a cute little bully.

Silmeria, Neptune, Terra.

Neeeeeearly voted for Rororina, but I still didn't play her game yet. :-/

Well, the only one I've played is Pac-Man, so that got a vote. Used the other two votes for the remaining characters that looked the coolest to me: Duke Nukem and Frog.

Yeah, it's not so much that I dropped the game per se, but more that the couple of attempts I had at it were before I finally learned discipline in playing RPGs. Up until a few years ago, I had a bad habit of spreading myself too thin over too many games at once, thus never finishing any of them. Once I had started the Xenosaga trilogy (Episode II in particular, Episode I took me more than a year to complete because I had not yet discovered the trick), I discovered the obvious: concentrate on one RPG at a time. Or two if one is console and one is handheld. :sd: I also learned to master the art of level grinding, and not just burn through the game's story without making time for said grinding. Since then I've burned through a significant chunk of my RPG backlog at a blistering pace (for me).

But yes, FFVI is on my short list of RPGs to tackle next once I finish the one I'm working on now. If I already know it's awesome without having gotten very far into it, I can only imagine what my impressions of it will be once I play it through.

Potential Votes
Terra Brandford
Frog
Celese Chere
Isara Gunther
KOS-MOS
Cocona Vatel

Wow, another huge round of maybes! Silmeria, Rorona and Zelda just barely didn't make the first cut, and would have most likely been votes in other rounds. But that still leaves SIX votes to dissect.

Yeah, Isara is my pick and an insta-vote, but would've voted for her no matter what; being an all around awesome imouto. The two FFVI girls I like pretty much evenly, but then there's the problem of which one to choose? Frog has a cool theme, which I still hum from time to time. Cocona is also a cool little sister of sorts, and has my favorite EX attack from that game. And KOS-MOS is just flat out bitchin'. (Am I the only one who is particular to her Mary Magdalene "version"?)

So, my three votes go to:

Votes
Isara
KOS-MOS
Cocona

Man, is every round going to be this tough to choose? :)

Characters from Games I've Played
Duke Nukem (Duke Nukem 3D)
Terra Branford (Final Fantasy 6)
Pac-Man (Pac-Man)
Frog (Chrono Trigger)
Celes Chere (Final Fantasy 6)
Isara Gunther (Valkyria Chronicles)
KOS-MOS (Xenosaga)
Rororina ~Rorona~ Fryxell (Atelier Rorona ~The Alchemist of Arland~)
Zelda (Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time)
Cocona Vatel (Ar tonelico II: Sekai ni Hibiku Shoujo-tachi no Metafalica)
Neptune (Hyperdimension Neptunia)
Sephiroth (Final Fantasy VII)

Characters I Particularly Like
Terra Branford (Final Fantasy 6)
Celes Chere (Final Fantasy 6)
Isara Gunther (Valkyria Chronicles)
KOS-MOS (Xenosaga)
Rororina ~Rorona~ Fryxell (Atelier Rorona ~The Alchemist of Arland~)
Cocona Vatel (Ar tonelico II: Sekai ni Hibiku Shoujo-tachi no Metafalica)
Neptune (Hyperdimension Neptunia)

Votes
Isara Gunther (Valkyria Chronicles)
Cocona Vatel (Ar tonelico II: Sekai ni Hibiku Shoujo-tachi no Metafalica)
Neptune (Hyperdimension Neptunia)

Neptune and Cocona were easy. Neptune is my pick and she's hilarious, Cocona is awesome and was my next most wanted Ar Tonelico character for the draft (i.e. she would have been my second pick if I had the chance). The next part was really hard, because I had to choose between Terra, Celes and Isara. ;_; Ultimately, I went with the cute and awesome tank driver. And when I put that way, it suddenly wasn't so hard to choose.

Unless there is some specific reason for you having not played it, can I highly, highly recommend playing Valkyrie Profile 2?

Again, two particularly easy votes again this round, as I love both Terra and Celes. As with pretty much every playable Chrono Trigger character, Frog is pretty awesome and got my third vote. I like that's he's one of the more versatile characters and his theme music is great. Silmeria was pretty close to a vote, though I like Alicia better.

I haven't decided what to do with Round 1 yet. The thing that makes the videogame draft harder for me is that, generally, unless it's an RPG or adventure game there's not much of a story and history to the character, and thus less chance for me to come to care about them as such. Well, I'll probably vote for Samus for just being generally awesome, despite having no character (outside of a game I haven't played). And I did play Prime 1, which I believe is the most recent console game I've finished (says a lot huh?). Same for Link I guess. But jeeze how boring would I be, just voting for the mega-popular game icons? :sd: Hmm.

If I did still play games then I'm sure I'd love a lot of the newer RPG girls listed, but can't vote for characters I don't know. I said I'd just vote based on who has the hottest fanart but in reality I'm too lazy to go look them all up and decide. =P

There are definitely some characters in here who I know and like from back in the day when I played games, so I can vote in this round.

Have played the game:
Tina Branford (Final Fantasy VI)
Pac-Man (Pac-Man)
Frog (Chrono Trigger)
Celese Chere (Final Fantasy VI)
Zelda (Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time)
Have seen the anime or a Let's Play:
Isara Gunther (Valkyria Chronicles) [anime]
Commander Shepard (Mass Effect 2) [LP]

Well, the LP I saw for ME was ME1 but it's the same character.

Shortlist:
Tina Branford (Final Fantasy VI)
Frog (Chrono Trigger)
Celese Chere (Final Fantasy VI)
Zelda (Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time)
Isara Gunther (Valkyria Chronicles)

Votes:
Tina Branford (Final Fantasy VI)
Frog (Chrono Trigger)
Celese Chere (Final Fantasy VI)

Whelp, FF6 and CT are my two favorite console games ever so I guess this was pretty easy. Considered Zelda instead of Frog but eh.

I'm going to try not to vote for characters I only know from anime, so I can't vote for Isara even though she's wonderful. The Shepherd I saw in the LP was an amusing jackass but how do you vote for a character whose actions, and even very physical appearance, is almost completely up to the individual player? It's a bit weird for me I guess.

Guess I'll go attempt Round 1.

KOS-MOS (Xenosaga)
Pac-Man (Pac-Man)

Not that any of the characters weren't spectacular, but I really had to do some digging around for my other two votes. My first one obviously went to Rita. As for the other two:

Characters I know and like:
Terra Brandford
Pac-Man
Frog
KOS-MOS
Sephiroth

Vote #2 went to Sephiroth because he's a badass. The final vote almost went to Pac-Man but after a bit more thinking it went to Terra as I really like her.

Sooo torn. You've got the classics that I don't think about too much anymore but are still really cool anyway, and then others that just seem more...relevant to me now, whether or not they are actually that much better. Argh.

Wow your shortlist and final votes are like almost exactly the same as mine. Heck I won't even bother to post, since you did it for me :p
It kinda ends up being game allegiance as Chrono Trigger is one of my favs of all time, and FF6 is probably my 4th or 5th fav of all time.

Tina Branford (Final Fantasy VI)
Frog (Chrono Trigger)
Celese Chere (Final Fantasy VI)

There's also a big number of games that I own and haven't played, so unfortunately I cannot give wuv to them for now.

Would conceivably vote for:

Terra Brandford (Final Fantasy VI)
Celese Chere (Final Fantasy VI)
Isara Gunther (Valkyria Chronicles)
KOS-MOS (Xenosaga Episode 1: Der Wille zur Macht)
Lara Croft (Tomb Raider)
Rororina ~Rorona~ Fryxell (Atelier Rorona ~The Alchemist of Arland~)
Rita Morido (Tales of Vesperia)
Commander Shepard (Mass Effect 2)
Silmeria (Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria)
Zelda (Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time)
Cocona Vatel (Ar tonelico II: Sekai ni Hibiku Shoujo-tachi no Metafalica)
Neptune (Hyperdimension Neptunia)

Top 5:

Isara Gunther
KOS-MOS
Rororina ~Rorona~ Fryxell
Coconal Vatel
Neptune

had to cut out some characters I like a lot, but these five stood out above the rest.

Votes:

Isara Gunther
KOS-MOS
Cocona Vatel

Cocona was, of course, my draft pick, and the bestest most adorable and just all around awesomest character ever (who's not named Jacqli). And hell, she's putting up a good fight for that position! Isara of course, because...well, she's Isara. And KOS-MOS for general epicness. Really hated having to pass on Rorona and Neptune though. Both are loads of fun.

Familiar With Through The Game
Terra Brandford (Final Fantasy VI)
Pac-Man (Pac-Man)
Frog (Chrono Trigger)
Celese Chere (Final Fantasy VI)
KOS-MOS (Xenosaga Episode 1: Der Wille zur Macht)
Rororina ~Rorona~ Fryxell (Atelier Rorona ~The Alchemist of Arland~)
Zelda (Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time)
Neptune (Hyperdimension Neptunia)
Sephiroth (Final Fantasy VII)

Like with Link, Zelda is a bit of a half-truth since Ocarina of Time is one of the games in the series that I didn't play. So if Ocarina of Time actually adds more substance to her, it won't effect me much.

Familiar With Through Other Means
Isara Gunther (Valkyria Chronicles)
Rita Morido (Tales of Vesperia)

Sorry, but maybe one day I'll get around to actually playing VC. Sadly because I don't have a 360 and because the PS3 version isn't coming out here, My experience with Rita is limited. Her scene in the anime showed potential, but it was a short scene.

Strong Liking
Terra Brandford (Final Fantasy VI)
Celese Chere (Final Fantasy VI)
Isara Gunther (Valkyria Chronicles)
Rororina ~Rorona~ Fryxell (Atelier Rorona ~The Alchemist of Arland~)
Rita Morido (Tales of Vesperia)
Neptune (Hyperdimension Neptunia)

It's hard to say how to judge KOS-MOS. She did get better over time. Especially around the time of the third game. However for a good portion, she bored me. Such as say for example the first game, which is the one chosen to represent her.

Rita just barely makes the list. Yeah, I only experienced a short bit of her, but that short bit still shows a lot of potential. I might have included certain other people if I had made more progress in their games.

Votes
Celese Chere (Final Fantasy VI)
Rororina ~Rorona~ Fryxell (Atelier Rorona ~The Alchemist of Arland~)
Neptune (Hyperdimension Neptunia)

Rorona is like automatic. I love my female Alchemists. Especially when they're adorable and sexy.

Neptune is one of those quick love characters. Where I only experience a tiny portion of her, but that portion is enough to suprass some that I've experienced more.

For the third vote, I ultimately went with a classic for me. Celes is my second favorite girl in Final Fantasy VI. Also, her role in the story stood out for me. Especially in the second half.

Isara was close to getting the third vote. However the need for a refresher course and other such factors caused her to lose out. Sorry, Isara.

Also, apologies to Rito. Maybe if I had been able to play your games, things would have been different. Then again, on the other hand, it did make the choice easier. Now I feel bad for saying that.

Bit the bullet and just went with...

Cocona Bartel
Rita Mordio
Terra Branford

Cocona's so awesome she gets to be a playable character in not one, but two games.

Terra was one of my first game character crushes. Green hair is still cool, though.

Zelda and Pac-Man wound up being the only characters I played, but Pac-Man didn't get a vote because I never really felt much of a connection with the circular dot-eater.

So the hot factor came in again - which had Kos-Mos and Neptune (mainly for her other form) getting the other two votes.

Whoa, really pleased to see that. Seemed like the SNES FF fandom was strong with Rydia first round so I expected a decent showing at least. I thought Celes might have been more popular than Terra around here, but they actually both did extremely well ("vote splitting" didn't seem to affect either much). Nice...

The girls from VI did good, congrats...I really need to replay this on my PS1 copy since I haven't played the game...maybe sine it was FF III?

Meanwhile Sephiroth got dragged behind the woodshed and beaten like he belonged in Ehrgeiz. :sd: Ah well, surprised how Pac Man did though...guess no one else grew up eating the fabulous Pac Man ice cream treats.

For a number of people, Final Fantasy VI was their introduction to the world of Final Fantasy (or at least the first Final Fantasty that they actually put effort into). Also, given how Terra and Celes are the central character in each respective half of the game, that was probably the thing that prevented the vote splitting from happening (if I had known that, I would have chosen Celes and saved Pac-Man for later).

Note: To deal with ties, I am following the method that I've seen used before. Let's say two people manage to tie for first place position. Both of them would get points based on that position.

The next person in line would get points based on third place position based on the fact that two people are ahead of them in terms of position. That's what it boils down to.

Position 1 is worth 16 points. Position 16 is worth 1 point. Now then for the scores as of round 2. Feel free to correct any errors you see.
