Adaptation of a 4-Koma about a girl named Tooru that's finally going to the same school as her one year older friend named Run. Thy results of this set up can be approved of. At least in terms of the manga.

Oh, I decided to just make this now because we're only about a week from episode 1 airing and I felt it's time to just let the pre-discussion thread take a rest now.

In any case, the official site linked to in the root post had gone through a major overhaul. As mentioned in the other thread, you have a character section which includes support people.

The movie section has the original trailer. Each girl does her own commercial. Finally you have a new trailer which feels more complete. More scenes, some of which I recognize. Oh, and there are more voices in it.

I just watched this trailer:

And it's the first time I've seen anything of this series, but it looks pretty awesome. The animation is pretty great too. I'm rather interested in this series now and will be looking forward to watching the first episode next week.

Just watched all of the videos, and I am so ready for it to start. I have a feeling this is gonna be so cute and funny.

It figures the initial watch would be attacked by errors. In any case, in spite of them, the potential was shown a bit. So I look forward to a re-watch. For now, I'll say this much.

I'm glad they made sure to adapt the scene where Tooru discovers Run's friends. Because that is like a defining moment.

I have wild theory that Tooru really loves Run. Yeah, she makes it really easy to think in that direction just based on her actions alone.

Gee, why would you think that? Doesn't every girlfriend drive off boys with a baseball bat and attack the other girlfriends because they were in a tickle fight with her? Her character design reminds me of Tama-chan from Bamboo Blade and Run is even more spaced out than Yui from K-On! . The girls are waaaay cute.

Curious about Tooru and Nagi's uniforms since they're not the same as the other girls.

Absolutely loved the first episode, as I had every expectation that I would. A lot more traditional four-friends-slice-of-life than Nichijou, but every bit as fun (and though perhaps not quite as well animated, still very well done).

I don't think I'll ever get tired of Tooru molesting Yuuko.... it's like... Tama-chan molesting Mugi-chan (though amusingly, I thought that the 2nd-years' teacher looked like a grown-up Mugi...).

I just think that Tooru and Nagi are actually wearing the uniform sweaters/blazers- other than that, they're wearing the exact same uniform. The difference in color could either be to indicate year or that Nagi's has just faded a lot over a year vs. Tooru's brand new one...

Tooru is pretty amusing. Particularly her penchant for protecting Run with a baseball bat and her antagonistic relationship with Yuuko. And she's voiced by Yuuki Aoi, that's a big plus. Interesting that one of the main group of four is not only in a different class, but in an entirely different grade.

Nagi and Yuuko are decently amusing, but while Run has her moments, I don't care much for her overall. She's too spacey for my tastes, to the point that it kind of bugs me. Though my feelings on that could easily change by the end of the next episode or two. Wouldn't be the first time something bugged me and then suddenly didn't.

Overall, it was okay, I guess. Its very clearly based on a 4-koma, and while the yuri undertones help a bit and Yuuki Aoi helps a lot.... but its still a 4-koma adaptation. My history with theses kinds of shows is very hit and miss, and they tend to miss more than they hit. This one is pretty much right in the middle at the moment. It's lightly amusing, but it won't exactly be a high priority to watch next week.

That was cute and an amusing watch. The girls are cute and fun. Add another one who loved Tooru protecting Run and molesting Yuuko. That's probably going to be the running gags in the show.

Definitely enjoyed the episode. I just hope things don't slow down since it is a slice of life show. The only issue I have with such shows is when it get's slow, it's a labor to watch and I start to fall asleep.

She has amazing radar to know that guys or Yuuko are anywhere near Run. Not to mention the ability to detect candy in an empty bag;). I wonder what other superpowers she has?

I'm going with the assumption that it's probably a case of different blazers for each year. I guess the best way to be sure is to wait for someone else from either year to end up wearing as well.

Actually you can see all of Tooru's class when they're filling out the elective form and the girls are wearing the same white blazer(blouse?) as Run is (about 9 minutes 10 sec in) . Maybe it's a pullover that Tooru's wearing over her normal blazer like Nagi's sweater (I missed that it was actually a sweater the first time I watched it).

Just for your information. In Japan, there are schools where students can wear sweaters and cardigans they like. (Usually there are lax regulations about it in that case, though.)
Therefore at such a school, as a matter of course, it is probable that the sweater of Student A is different from the sweater of Student B.

-Baseball bat girl is running to an appointment with action.
-There are boys? In a 4koma based show centered arround four high school girls. Madness!
-Baseball girl is protecting Run's honor when she doesn't need protecting?
-Excellen is Run's mom?
-These girls legs are so thin and frail looking.
-Well Tooru is obvious about her lesbianism. I guess that's refreshing.
-Who thought it was a good idea to allow Run near any sharp implement?

Proportions of the characters keep bothering me. Heads as wide as their shoulders. Sticks for arms and legs. Which makes Tooru look cute, but doesn't seem to work for anyone else. For me anyway. I fear I have grown tired of 4koma based moe comedy. I may not watch more.

Tooru is a really weird character, even by 4koma standards. She's more like a guard dog than a person. She rarely speaks, attacks anyone she perceives as a threat to Run without telling them why, and when she does speak she seems to speak in an impulsive, childlike way, and she could pass for a seven-year old(though that could be just the art style). She seems less in love with Run than just obsessed with her.

Other than that, Yuuko is an exact clone of Mio from K-on, and Run is an even more spacey clone of Yui, and many of the conversations screamed "Lucky Star". It still seems like cute fun though, and I don't care if it's derivative as long as it's cute enough.

Nah, Nagi is a bit too devious to be Nodoka. She's probably closer to Azu's Yomi without the need to be the tsukkomi to anyone's Tomo.

This was one of my more anticipated series of the series as I've enjoyed the manga. Tooru is the highlight of the series for me as Run's bodyguard/destined partner. I like the choice of voice for her as it pretty much fits with how I pictured her speaking in my head. Indeed, the voice acting for all the characters is pretty much what I imagined so I'm happy with that though its more likely that certain voices just naturally go with specific character types.

The animation looked pretty well done though I think the character designs look a little weird at times. This was most noticeable with Yuuko as she's the most curvacious of the four.

The episode was enjoyable though I think they could have sped up the punch line on some of the jokes. As is the nature of jokes in 4 koma series, their impact is the best when they're relatively rapid fire and I don't think this episode quite managed to find that sweet spot yet. That is something that is bound to improve with future episodes, however, and I look forward to watching more.

Yeah, Nagi is definitely closer to being a Yomi than a Nodoka. Actually, other than cute girls being involved I'm not sure if comparing them to K-ON! girls is any more valid than say for example other 4-koma girls.

On the subject of Tooru, the idea of her being a guard dog makes sense, but in general I prefer to think of her as a loyal pet. A loyal pet with a jealous streak. One that is apparently either jealous of Yuuko's breasts or interested in them. Maybe, both?

Assuming people actually watch far enough to get a feel for the other characters including some side characters, there's a chance they might lean towards Nagi given her nature. Plus, the whole glasses thing and such.

Actually, one good idea for the show might be to have episodes more focused on either Nagi or Yuuko. Like any series, too much focus on the main dynamic will only backfire. That and there are some things I want to see anyway.

I'm already leaning toward Nagi- her archetype (straight-laced but sarcastic meganeko- the most extreme example of course being Otaku Yuki from Haruhi-chan) is one of my favorites.

I think you're right- I think (like Lucky Star) it'll probably do better if there's more cast members (which the preview indicates there are) that will add diversity to things. Azu worked well because there were a whole bunch of mains, and LS was greatly helped when the cast expanded with the other class & and 1-year-younger girls.

My comments were just based on character design less than on personality (although Run and Yui....). Since I only read a few 4-koma I don't know if the character designs are generic (glasses girl, short haired girl, long dark haired girl, midget girl....).

Rather than use the term generic, I'll just say that such designs have come up before and will come up again. Also, I prefer the term "short girl of awesome". What? I like the shorter girls of anime.

I could see them using such a story as some sort of cut-off point for the end of the first (and potentially only) season. In any case, I'm hoping for the same thing because it would be nice to see some sort of explanation.

Episode 1:

- Girl with bat. Running.
- YES! FUKUHARA KAORI! I will love her ever thanks to Hiiragi Tsukasa, and that's the voice she's using here.
- Hahaha, that's the Yuuki Aoi character? Awesome. And she's clearly in love with Run.

- There's a Kotobuki Minako too~! I'm half surprised they didn't give Hikasa Youko the role.
- Ah, Tooru is a year below the others.
- Hahah, yeah, Fence was right when he mentioned it, Run's mom is totally Excellen.
- Oh crap, Tooru, you lost out on Run's first kiss!
- Tooru does not like Yuuko. :sd:

- Sawashiro Miyuki as the teacher! YES!
- Run is a mess.
- Run loves meat so much that her ringtone is sizzling meat and her wallpaper is a cow. o_O
- Tooru is psychotic.
- I think Run-chan is my favorite character. <3 Just keep her away from windows.

- Oh god don't let her near box cutters either. >_> Poor poor Yuuko.
- Man is this really Uchiyama Yumi's first (real) role? She realllllllllllllly sounds like someone else. Like, she has an amazing "supporting character" voice. She sounds exactly like how her character looks.
- Hah, yeah, Nagi was worried about dieting.

- Awwwww. Such a cute scene where Run reassures Tooru and Nagi and Yuuko befriend her. More or less.
- Loved the insert song sequence.
- Haha the guys know Tooru's schedule.
- And Nagi knows Yuuko's three sizes...

I can't decide between Run and Yuuko right now. Love them both.

I've watched five shows so far and every single one has been awesome. This season is off to a great start.

Tooo cute for words. Tooru's reaction to Run's lack of underwear was priceless. I thought she was going to blow all of her mental fuses. Tooru is not as yandere as she was in the first ep. Guys staring at Run are not allowed though. Yuuko is definitely a scardy-cat and Tooru seems to be trying to press all of her buttons:).

I enjoyed the first episode, but for whatever reason, I liked this one much more as a whole (maybe the show is starting to click with me more). I guess one thing is I'm warming up more to Run's personality, who had some nice moments this episodes. All of the girls did, really. Still love Yuuko a lot (her interactions with Tooru particularly), and liked seeing glasses-off hair down Nagi. I wasn't paying attention last episode, but I noticed this episode that it sounds like Yuuko has a Kansai dialect (and looking on Japanese Wikipedia, it does seem to make note of that).

-Nodoka is teasing Mio. Err I mean Nagi is teasing Yuko.
-Run is a Snorlax.
-Forehead fetish is fine too.
-Single serving Tooru bag. *snicker*

-Yuuko is using her specially nun defence mechanism and has become like stone.
-Holy crap Nagi has a huge head. Her body is only two heads high. Or this show shifts to semi chibi at odd times.

Poor Yuuko. Bad enough that she has to put up with Tooru's sadism, but the other two yell at her for reacting to it. It almost got to a point where I was asking "Why is she hanging out with these girls anyway?".

I like how the other girls are shocked at how Nagi tries to avoid moe tropes by wanting to call a cab instead of running home in the rain or calling her brother "Aniki" instead of using an imouto term.

Well, if that's not enough to make one think Hosaka, there's also the "scary" factor. As long as we're on the subject of Satou-sensei, I'm not so sure he'd make an effective nurse with health like that.

And this brings in another girl in their class, Miho/Mipo-rin, who is very cute and seems a bit protective of Tooru. It's nice to have some people for Tooru to interact with in her own class. Also, the girls know the true purpose of water!

The next episode will involve swimsuits! Yay!

*Looks at Yutaka in preview* I feel wowed by this revelation. Tooru accept her advances and make sure it gets on film!

It's hilarious they way they've set up Tooru to be a subject of now two stalkers which is freaking her out when her heart is set on Run. She just doesn't know how cute she really is.

Love seeing Nagi with her hair down. Cute.

Yuuko is terminally objectified.

Run is in the lead for air head of the year.

Seeing Yuuko putting on her gym uniform is interesting. Gets it tucked all the way down before flipping out her wonderful loooooong hair.

Silly Nagi, like most anime girls, you don't really need to diet all that badly. Liked her getting some focus and some nice interactions with Tooru.

I'm really liking the look of the girls in swimsuits in the next episode preview. Tooru's looks surprisingly cute for some reason.

I wonder when we'll see a Yuuko focused episode. ^^;

I like how Run and Tooru were just describing Yuuko's physical appearance. At least we know she's an E cup - they definitely look much larger than what they are. I wonder how tall the girls are.

Silly Nagi thinking trying to rationalize weight gain by thinking the clothing she was wearing added 1kg (side-note: the whole thing with weight and mass...that annoys me, but whatever, I can live with it).

So, Miporin sets a time limit that Yutaka can molest Tooru, eh?

Nagi, you...do not need to lose weight. You do need to lose the pigtails though. Seriously.

Its somewhat surprising that you never see thighhighs falling down in anime.

Tooru can't seem to decide if she wants Miho as a friend or not. At least for Tooru's sake she comes with the benefit of partially negating Yutaka, but Tooru isn't exactly jumping for joy at her presence either.. I, however, would love to see more Miho.

- HAHAHA! I knew she'd forget something. From the distance shot I totally didn't see the sock since I was focused on Tooru almost getting run over. But she also forgot panties...
- YES! Yuuko wants to see Run without panties. =D
- Run being perceptive. God that's so weird. But nice to see another side of her.

- Ono D as a creepy teacher with a forehead fetish. Hah.
- Calling a taxi...

- "That means the trash is walking by itself." Run's brain is a national treasure.
- A-mikan!

- Run, these are not the toys you are looking for.
- Awww, Tooru is quick to reassure Run that she loves her too. :sd: Then Run tickles her! =D
- That's a really scary drink, Run.
- And it becomes the name of the cat.

- Heh. Tooru is probably regretting the cat now. It's stealing the attention away!
- Okay enough of the cat. I don't like animals so these episodes are never the best for me.

- Assassin pervert, Nagi!
- Snow! Or not. Poor Run.
- And insert song time. ...or not? Wow, this seemed like the perfect time.
- Hey it's Yutaka. Where is my Mipo-rin!?
- Oh here comes the insert song. But unusual that these are hard-subtitles into the episode.
- MIPO-RIN!!

Heh. Colds all around.

Bwahaha, Tooru and Nagi find an eromanga starring heroines that look just like Yuuko.... so they buy it and show it to her. And Yuuko kinda likes it.

Tooru teasing Nagi about the stuffed animal's identity was really cute.

And Tooru has.... interesting taste in casual clothes.

Now all we need is to see how they met in Elementary School. That would be fun to see.

As for Tooru and Run being in love, at this point we're just waiting for the dramatic "confession kiss"

Hmmm, still think it's somewhat one sided. I think Run is such a ditz that she doesn't even realize how much Tooru cares for her. I think she loves all the girls. She treats Tooru more as a "pet" than as a lover. Just look how dense she was about relationships when the boys were flocking around her before Tooru chased them off. (why they were after her and not Yoko....much hotter IMHO).

I wonder what's going to happen when Run goes to college? Mom better have a plan to get her into a decent school so Tooru's goes to a good one. Tooru's going to have a bad senior year anyway.

It's so hard to not get enough of Tooru abusing Yuuko. It's so fun to watch. I liked how she was confused over Tooru's request for cups. =D

Episode 11:

- Oh no, Tooru. Run can't graduate! What would you do? But isn't Run a second year? We've still got time. Enough for a second season! =D Which is quite likely given the better than expected sales.

- Oh nice, extended flashback. So, Excellen-mama was fine with Run going to her first choice until she found out that Tooru would in effect be held back if that happened. :sd:
- Tooru-sensei!!
- Tutoring Run is a task I'd never want to take on.
- Aww, but she can really buckle down and study when she needs to. Especially when she knows Tooru's future is at stake too.
- HAHAHAHA, Yuuko was getting abused by members of this group from the very start. Yuuko is scared. Poor Yuuko. XD

- Zettai ryouiki-cam! Yay!
- Haha, I love Run's trick. And Tooru's response...
- Tooru getting her head patted - while angry and yet blissful - is toooo cute.
- Tooru will be 16!

- Hahah, keep the cake cool in the bathroom.
- What does Tooru most want for her birthday? Yuuko's breasts!
- ....Poor poor Yuuko. :sd: She's from Kansai so she gets the wasabi cake. :sd:

- Tooru is going to go through class with a cake on her desk. >_>
- HAPPY BARTHDAY. Oh Yutaka.

- Insert song time. I haven't really been following Yuuki Aoi's singing much, but she sounded pretty solid here, actually.
- But aww, Tooru is reminded once again that Run will graduate and leave her one day.
- Don't worry, Tooru, Run will love you forever~

So now we look back and see how Run ended up at this school. She was all set to go to a bottom of the barrel school and her mom was totally okay with it.... until she heard Tooru was going to go to whatever school Run went to. Then ExceleMom does not approve and insists she goes to a better school.

Then Tooru became Run's cram tutor. Awesomeness.

.... and poor Yuuko. Even in celebration, she must suffer at the hands of her friends.

Kamate sensei is astonishingly short, and very amusing.

I don't think she got over it she just put it out of her mind. In fact, I think it's not only Run now, its Nagi and Yuuko that she's afraid of leaving. Though this time it's going to be worse for Tooru. Assuming Run goes away to college (I find that more unbelievable than her being an alien:laugh:), she won't even be able to see her after school or on weekends.

Yuuko smothering Tooru to keep her from seeing Run talking to a boy! What a way to go!:nosebleed:

A rather mediocre ending I'm afraid. Had a few good scenes but disappointing.

Not much of an end, though Tooru seems to get over her fears of Run going away (how did this girl survive her last year of middle school?), and we just generally get some fun interactions.

Let's just say that if that period were ever animated, it would be the darkest series ever. Quite depressing. In other words, I'm making up stuff and have no idea.

Actually, here's a good question to ask in the same regards. At what point did Run truly become associated with Yuuko and Nagi? We saw the seeds being planted in episode 11, but doesn't mean they instantly hanged out together.

Also, if we assume that just because they were in different schools didn't mean they weren't allowed to visit each other when school was out that leads to another mystery. One that's dependent on Nagi and Yuuko's hanging out with Run.

If the two were hanging out at Run's place on occasion even during her first year. If Tooru was still visiting Run on occasion during Run's first year. Then it's amusing that it wasn't until the event of episode 1 that Tooru never crossed paths with Yuuko and Nagi.

As for it not being much of an ending, that I can't deny. At the same time, it was kind of expected for me. In some ways, it feels more like a half-way point type thing and that's probably what it's meant to be.

And dammit Tooru, tell Run that you love her!

She would, but the "So Close and Yet So Far" curse won't let her. Such a curse is the evil.

At last, everything in the series makes sense with this shocking revelation! Run is actually an Alien! At least according to Tooru's dream sequence.

Tooru running up to Run just before the ending song starts playing to hug her. Gee, about the only way they could have made it more blatant is if the two started making out after that.

Not sure if this will get another season, but we can probably guess the type of ending they'll go for. Ie, it's the type you can expect when at least one member of the group is a different

Speaking of the Alien part, the more I listen to it, the more I'm convinced the song could be a cover of a song I heard years ago. It all sounds familiar and I think I might have heard it in an animated show as well. Except it was in English and a cartoon. Possibly from Disney?

That was easily the best use of an insert song in the series.

Blushing, embarrassed Tooru was adorable.

If we get a second season, Kamade-sensei needs a significant boost in screentime. She's highly amusing. And she's really short. Like, holy crap. Kitou-sensei just towered over her.

Can't believe this is the end. Lots of good fun throughout the episode.

I liked how Yuuko had a Mio moment and the girls acted as judges. The whole sequence of Run talking after biting her tongue was funny...that must've been a serious bite.

I still can't believe that they were eating durian burgers at Mos..err, Moz Burger. I can only imagine mixing durian with beef...terrible...and terrible to the person who came up with the idea of mixing the two.

The end was a good way to keep a 2nd season open.

Not much of an end, though Tooru seems to get over her fears of Run going away (how did this girl survive her last year of middle school?)

She probably spent her after-school hours at Run's house or just moved in during her last year of middle school.

- Mipo-rin! Heh, Yutaka copying homework upside down.
- Poor Yuuko, always so flustered. She needs to stop Tooru! But how? She can't handle...
- ...Oh. Well those are deadly.

- Love love love Sawashiro's Kamade-sensei.

- Miporin and Yutaka see Tooru's flustered, blushing face! A Tooru they didn't know existed! They're enchanted.

- Haha, love Run's inability to speak after biting her tongue.
- Yuuko panties! Not that we see. But the girls totally approve.
- Oh god, Yuuko is dumpster diving for points. She's serious about this.
- Run's slurring continues. XD

- Run does not understand glasses!
- Hahhah, Nagi's Run impression was brilliant.
- Run is an alien! I knew it!

Special 4:
- This one is already a lot better. We start with Run coming home and sitting down next to her bed to read a magazine, then having the shit scared out of her by Tooru leaping out of her bed.
- Turns out Tooru was waiting for her, but fell asleep and woke up right then with a nightmare.
- Tooru is super cute! Green thighhighs, zettai ryouiki, purple skirt, pink and gray shirt. The colors clash but she's adorable anyway.

- Run sometimes goes home to Tooru's house instead of her own. Accidentally. >_>
- More zettai ryouiki camera! And a sweet moment between Run and Tooru.
- Then Tooru follows Run around, and Run realizes she's scared. =D

But if Nagi keeps her hair down too long, the universe will explode from not being able to contain the beauty of it. Also, I lean towards the idea of Nagi/Yuuko for some reason. Although Tooru/ Yuuko is tempting.

If only there was a solution that didn't require splitting them into groups of two. *Watches ending* Hmm, we just need two more things added to it.

- Oh my god... Yuuko has an imouto. And she's adorable! She has big boobs too. Which is actually really intresting. Usually you one of two things: 1) she'd be flat as a board to contrast with her big sister or 2) she'd be slightly bigger and it'd be a point constantly brought up. Instad, she';s sizable but clearly smaller than Yuuko, which makes sense given she's yuonger. Kind of refreshing really.
- Her name is Kei(ko). She's such a dutiful imouto. Oh my god I'm completely in love. She's voiced by Iguchi Yuka too, who is totally doing her Tsukihi voice. Imouto power!!

- So anyway Yuuko is out sick. And Tooru really misses her, but won't admit it. She tries poking Nagi but doesn't get the desired reaction. =D
- Everyone comes to visit. But awww... Yuuko is sad to see hem leave. DOn'o leave her alone! Nagi, you should sleep over!
- Awwww she clings onto Nagi so they all stay. <3 <3
- Hahah, oh this explains Nagi and Tooru taking off Yuuko's clothes in the OP. They can't wait to see her naked. =D

- Tooru is the porridge master. Just don't point out how protective she is of Yuuko. =D
- Blushing Tooru. She loves Yuuko so much. <3
- Tooru wants to feed it all to Yuuko. Oh god this is the cutest thing.
- HAHAHAAH, Run trying to imitate Yuuko's Kansai-ben.
- Realizing you're worse than Run at something: the worst feeling in the world. Poor Nagi.
- Oh jeeze. Cuteness everywhere. Yuuko wants so badly to be near the girls (who are in another room), that she falls asleep by the door.

- AWWWWWWWWWWW, Kei is jealous that someone else took care of her onee-chan before her. I love love love love love Kei!
- Ahhh, she knows Tooru. And doesn't want to hear about how awesome Tooru is. :sd:
- And during the eyecatch-like bit, she's gushing about how great her sister is. WHY DID WE NOT MEET HER EARLIER!?

- Second half. Hatsumode time!
- Ahahah, I laughed way too much at the train scene. The look on Tooru's face sold it.
- Run is turning her Runness to the max.
- She even throws her wallet into the offering box by mistake. :sd:
- Omikuji. Yuuko gets great luck. The girls touch her to get her luck. Naturally, Tooru goes for the breasts.
- Ema + insert song.

- They try to guess Tooru's ema wish - they assume she wished to continue to get along with Run, but she actually wrote it about all four of them getting along with each other. She's come a long way, from caring only about Run, to liking all of them.

Yeah, that's what I was talking about. I figured it was accent related and thought maybe it was some sort of regional hiragana that's not normally used. I guess looking at it a bit more, I can see how it kind of resembles the な I'm used to, but it just didn't look anything like it when I was watching.
