Ok. That was awesome and hilarious.
A fantasy world of people with dog and cat ears who explode into cute little dog/cat puffball things when hurt, and wars are settled via EXTREME OBSTACLE COURSES
And shockingly, the male lead is pretty awesome, and it makes perfect sense why he'd be summoned, and he's perfectly fine with it!
Also god tier seiyuu cast. Just...damn. Everyone who's anyone is here.

The thing I loved most about this episode was the absurdity of the "war" really just being a complex sporting event. Got a lot of laughs about that. And the hero just wants a place to exercise and gets just that...
Also god tier seiyuu cast. Just...damn. Everyone who's anyone is here.
I think it's surprisingly the male voices that got my attention - it's like almost all of the ones I can instantly recognize no matter what (Miyano, Koyasu, Wakamoto) were in there.

Wow. So our hero is summoned to a mysterious world for the purpose of essentially playing games. This could actually work.
Although now I'm going to spend the entire series waiting for the sudden reveal to happen where we find out things aren't that peaceful after all. If the series can avoid doing that, it might be a change of pace.
The male lead is pretty decent so far and we've some adorable girls. The princess is especially pretty. Pleasing on the eyes.
One downside to the set up of shows like this is with characters like Becky. Will she show up again? Or will it be like "Blink and you miss her"?

Needs way more Leonmitchelli, great seiyuu cast, disappointed @ the lack of "IT'S A PINCH"

I watched it knowing nothing about the show but was astonished by the cast. I played 'spot the seiyuu' everytime a new character was introduced, so I'm sure I'll keep watching it for the voices regardless of how the content turns out. The main guy is pretty cool, too. My only turn off is that the art style is a bit cutesy for my tastes.

Yeah, it's going to be REALLY hard to not yell Ginga Bishounen catchphrases at the screen while watching this show...
After the first episode, I'm getting very similar vibes from this that I did from Koreha Zombie Desu Ka: the setup seems so generic that it should be a yawner, but the cast is FABULOUS and it gets lots of points for the lead not being a bumbling idiot/jerk and him simply managing to go with the flow (pity they didn't show the maids changing him though- that was likely amusing...). I can see this being a lot of fun, and if nothing else it's absolute SEX for the ears...

Seems like every Western fan is dissing this because it's another generic fantasy show. Well it's their loss, as it has an awesome seiyuu cast, Nana Mizuki OP and Hocchan ED (Animelo songs for this year!), silly but fun premise and nekomimi/inumimi!

Considering the fact that I'm a Western fan and I'm not dissing the show, I think your "every" is a bit of a stretch. Also, I'm one that has this feeling the word "generic" is often abused by people. It could just be me however.

It is generic, had a slight twist to it but it doesn't change that it's generic. It's not a problem for me (I like Stratos after all) but if someone wants to dismiss this as generic than you can't exactly say they're wrong...
I will say this though, of the 5 Spring shows I've sampled so far this is bottom of the list.... I'll probably only watch the second episode of this because a lot of the season will be starting later than usual... as well as wanting too see Leonmitchelli get added to the harem, and go tsundere and vowing to defeat the MC after losing to to him in the second episode. (you know that's going to happen)

I'm interested in seeing where they are going to go after this little intro arc is done. The OP Shows the cats and dogs together (along with at least one bunny...) so I'm guessing there will be a greater "evil" that they team up against.
As for generic, well...yes and no. Its made of a lot of generic bits and pieces, but I've never seen them used in quite this sort of way before.
And IS's issue wasn't that it was generic, its that it was generic and annoying about it.
What I really want to know (and will hopefully be answered next time) is whether "named" characters also explode into those...puffball...things when injured enough, or if its only the mooks.
Because I'll bet a Leonmichelle puffball is absolutely adorable.

We'll see how you like the lead once it gets into harem hijinks. Male MC's generally become dumber and more dense once the show moves into harem territory.

Well, he's already not injecting his Y chromosome into what should be an inherently all female genre, so he's not actively pissing me off with his very existence.
I certainly don't mind stupid harem hijinks (I mean come on, I actually watched and enjoyed all three seasons of Zero no Tsukaima!), my objections with IS was how atrociously they were handled (and see again, ZnT).

Animal ears and tails! Yay!!!!!!
So we have a dog kingdom (hence the title) at war with a cat kingdom. Except the "war" is a casualty free reality TV battle. Cute princess Millhiore was aghast at the idea of people dying or being injured in a "war". When they get hit, they explode into Neko Balls. I love this show.
It's also a "person gets transported from present-day real-world to fantasy world" set-up, which I'm not a big fan of unless there's a good reason for it or its done really well. However, so far I'm fine with it. The light-hearted nature, for now at least, makes my normal issues with the premise much less likely to be an issue.
Speaking of Shinku.... I'm liking him so far. He's got a pretty good head on his shoulders and he reacts to the situation very well, not freaking out and making calm, reasonable observations about his situation. And he just comes across as more than just a generic male lead and is, to me, actually likable and relatable to a degree, though I'm not really able to describe what precisely makes him better than, say, Ryuuji from Dragon Crisis. Also, Shinku's voice sounds really familiar.... Ah, Masaomi from DRRR, that's what I was hearing.
Anyway, on more important notes, Milhiore is cute, and Eclair is awesome (and is voiced by Taketatsu Ayana).
Also, Tange Sakura plays a random seemingly minor character. o_0

That was enjoyable enough. The world is interesting, the mechanics of the "war" are amusing, the hero is cool, and the princess is cute. I feel sorry for Becky though. :(
Oh yeah. Horie power too.

Our Hero is clearly enjoying this whole situation.
Yes, Eclair is definitely a girl. Also, if you really need additional confirmation, let me.... *is stabbed*
Eclair is hot and that's what matters most.
It would be funny if she becomes one of the main rivals. As opposed to a side rival or one of those people below it.
Millhiore and our Hero are both informed that returning home is not possible for him. Or at least that's what's claimed. Never forget the rule of stories.

Mil-Hime (her real name is kind of long), is still really, really cute. She's also kind of ditzy, which is also cute. Also, Hocchan power.
Eclair is deliciously tsundere. And she has a cute butt. Also, shimapan. for a while, I thought nopan, but the end confirmed it. I liked the combo attack she did with Shinku too. That was just awesome! Kind of sad Shinku didn't notice until it was too late though (lol). Although, it would be even worse if he hadn't of noticed after that. Yup Taketatsu is best at tsundere characters. No doubt of that.
I kind of hope Becky will be summoned too, since I really like her (osananajimi <3 ). But with my luck, she'd be summoned by the "evil" cat people. :(
My current ranking is Mil-Hime (barely), Eclair, and then Becky. It's quite possible Eclair may take first place if she keeps up.
Yeah. I think I'll pick up the OP/ED singles for this. Ah, but it's Nana Mizuki so no anime style cover. Perhaps not.

You know, given that the inhabitants of the other world turn into puffballs when they get knocked out of battle, I kind of wonder what would happen to Shinku were he to actually take a hit? Yukkuri?
I rather wonder if he'd sustain actual, factual injuries - risk of death and all that. I certainly wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of a blow from Leonmichelles battle-axe, at the very least.
Also, Eclairs outfit is totally unsuitable for a frontline combatant. I realise the tail probably mitigates it somewhat, but there's not way that skirt doesn't ride up her legs within seconds of the start of a fight.
You know, given that the inhabitants of the other world turn into puffballs when they get knocked out of battle, I kind of wonder what would happen to Shinku were he to actually take a hit? Yukkuri? He seems to have taken on the magic of the new world with the seal thing and such so...
He could take on the magic of the host and become a doggie ball, or he could become an unappealing pink beach ball...

Milhiore's explanations of the rules are just adorable. And her discomfort at the end when she finds out that the hero she summoned can't return home was highly amusing.
And Leonmichelle is ridiculously badass. Oh, and she's also the Princess/King (how does that work?) of the cat kingdom. And her reason for surrendering and holding up the little white flag was highly amusing.
Eclaire continues to pretty awesome herself and is pretty fun in general. I was a bit annoyed at the typical boob grab... until Shinku revealed that he didn't even realize Eclaire was a girl. Which shows that he's a moron, but Eclaire's reactions was hilarious. But their tag team finish against Leon-hime was pretty nice.
Leonmichelle is totally the best character. <3 Leon-hime. Eclaire is a close second though. And while Milhiore can't remotely compete with them in badassness and general awesomeness, she's just adorable. All three are great characters and give me pleeeeeeeeenty of reason to keep coming back for more. Oh, and Milhiore's little Vivio-lookalike assistant is adorable too.

Episode 1:
- Time for Arf, the Anime! Wait, did someone genderswap Fate? ...Oh right, Dog Days. Mizuki Nana singing all Mizuki Nana-like.
- Lovely character designs in the OP.
- Wakawaka!
- And Koshimizu Ami~
- Taketatsu Ayana! Sounds a lot like the voice she used for Kirino, whenever Kirino was being really serious. The one that sounds a touch like Hirano Aya.
- Horie Yui too. Looks like she's the lead female character.
- Oh god, Miyano, don't use your Kida voice. That... sounds so weird.
- Cornwall? Is this guy Ana Coppola's cousin?
- ...Seriously, the Kida voice sounds sooo wrong for a lead character. It's totally "supporting male friend character". Actually, same with the personality too. Though he's okay so far.
- And modern Japanese (well, blond Japanese born in England living in Japan... ??) protagonist transported to fantasy world, get.
- The nameless grunts are drawn so... very very generically. And the battle animation is kinda laughable.
- ...So... the "war" is just a big mock battle game show. :sd:
- <___< Wow this is goofy.
- Oh, Tange Sakura.
- Cute little orange haired one is Mizuki Nana's character.
Well that was a lot sillier than I expected, but it looks like it has the potential to be some cute fun.

Episode 2:
- Rico is just stupidly cute. I think she may be my favorite character right now.
- Adorable chibi explanations from the princess~ And wait, weren't the maids told to get Shinku changed in 30 seconds or less? They didn't seem to be in a rush.
- Oh so we do see Becky again.
- Maybe Eclair is my favroite. Her and Rico are really close.
- Leonmichelle time!
- >_> Time for a really, really stupid boob grab. HURR DURR WHAT THIS IN MY HAND? Are we starting protagonist character assassination already?
- Eclair looks much better with less armor on. But she's adorable either way.
- Leon-hime is climing up the ranks too.
- She blows up the island. o_O
- Nice, Eclair has saved Shinku's ass twice already. Not that it'll last.
- HAHAHAHAH Leon-hime is fucking awesome. She could keep fighting but it would be too much fanservice for them to handle. =D
- Haha oh god, poor Eclair. :sd: Leon-hime is wonderfully evil.
- Shimapan! I knew there was a reason I liked Eclair so much.
HAH! Okay, the episode was full of awesome scenes but the look of pure, utter "oh shit"-itude on Milly's face when she realizes how badly she fucked up is easily the best.
That was just fantastic. Yeah, Shinku is a retard and doesn't look like he'll get any quicker in the head, but as long as the show keeps some balance between his achievements and those of the girls around him, it should be okay. I was really happy that Eclair not only got to share the win, but was if anything more critical to it than Shinku was (saving him initially so set up the final attack).
I have a feeling it'll never go that way again but for now, so far so good.
It's going to be a serious battle between Leon and Eclair for my favorite. Rico probably won't get enough scenes to compete fairly with them. Milly is great too and will clearly get a lot of focus as the co-lead.

You don't actually believe for a second that Leon-hime is going to be one of the bad guys, do you? For some reason, this whole conversation made me imagine a scenario where Becky who ends up siding with the cats is competing against Shinku and then eventually you get one of those "POWER OF LOVE" moments.
Where by the two decide to screw the battle, confess their love, and you can guess the rest. Meanwhile leaving all the cat and dog people in a state of shock.

SCARLET KNIGHT is definitely growing on me as an opening.
But, Rico, Milhiore looks super-duper cute when she's troubled.
Eclair continues to be deliciously tsundere. I wonder if dogs have harem tendencies (like lions do).
This is starting to feel like a RPG. Yet, I want more of Eclair's tutorials!
Becky looks cute while readying manga in casual clothes. Oh, and every time I see Rico I just want to pull her ears.

Milhiore needs to be shown bathing more often.
Eclair, I almost want her to end up in the Hero's world just for a reversed situation.

So Rico's basically a mage. That was a pretty cool charge though on Eclair and Shinku's part. Shame they couldn't follow up. But that's their fault for charging right in instead of going back to the prior zone and leveling.
Brioche and Yukikaze are ridiculously powerful and fun. Especially Yukikaze. I've always been partial to kunoichi. If this were a tactical RPG, I guess it would be about time for them to join the party. Really. They should make this an RPG.

Much better fighting than last time.
Leo-hime shows up and has a fight with Brioche, Brioche loses, but Leo-hime says that she was only fighting with 20% of her power. Though she herself was only using 30%, no 25%!
Gaul and Shinku both getting bonked over the head by Leo-hime was also funny.

I think that the discussion during Brio & Leo's fight was rather interesting and potentially kind of telling. Both Leo & Mil are very newly the leaders of their countries, so much so that Leo has to remind people to not call her 'hime' any more while Mil doesn't even bother with correcting anyone on it. Presumably this means their parents both/all died relatively recently and they took over as ruling their countries.
Leo seems frustrated with Mil's lack of seriousness about the fighting and her working more toward entertaining and cheering up people vs. building up their strength- I'm going to guess that when she took over as ruler, Leo learned of a threat to everyone that they're going to have to face soon, and she's frustrated that Mil's attitude toward the wars is lessening their collective ability to face the threat...
Of course, that's heavy speculation based on just a few sentences... :P

Milhiore's song was pretty nice.
Eclair's brief fight with the trio was pretty nice while it lasted. And Gaul had no idea about the concert, that was a screwup by his trio. They were right, they got hit again after they woke up. Though Gaul still ordered an attack on their victory party, so whether or not there was a concert, Leo-hime still would have been pissed at him for it.

I didn't realize how ridiculously huge Brioche's chocobo was until now. Which was kind of the point, I guess. But yeah, its huuuuuuuueg.
So now we finally get to the reason Leo-hime is doing this: because she has an exceptionally strong ability to see the future and she has foreseen Milhiore's death. And now Shinku's too. Though its not at all clear how repeatedly kicking their asses at "war" is supposed to change this.

Leo-hime declares war, with each country's sacred weapons as the stakes. Gaul doesn't like this, and even goes to see Shinku to explain this. Amelitta explains Millhi and Leo-hime's past together.
And Millhi accepts the declaration. Just what are you up to Leo-hime?

Someone on another forum had a really amusing insight, so I'm just going to post it verbatum, because its so true:
Another thing: The plot, though it doesn't appear that way at first, is fundamentally about one exceptionally badass girl doing whatever it takes to change her closest friend's miserable fate, alienating her in the process. Why does this sound familiar?

05-20-2011, 08:20 AM
I was actually thinking, has the vision Leo had of Millhi dying always included Shinku? If so, isn't everything Leo doing actually hastening Millhi's death? Shinku was only summoned to help combat Leo's wars.
Also, they spent some time talking about the 2 weapons that Millhi and Shinku have, and then Leo declared them stakes for the next battle. Perhaps Millhi and Leo die trying to defend those weapons from a thief?
If so, and Millhi's side actually won the next war, and got Leo's weapons, wouldn't that make her kingdom a much bigger target for a killer thief?
Leo, you have to start thinking this through a little better please
I was actually thinking, has the vision Leo had of Millhi dying always included Shinku? If so, isn't everything Leo doing actually hastening Millhi's death? Shinku was only summoned to help combat Leo's wars.
Leo's vision has not always included Cinque. When Leo saw this version, she said something like "and now the Hero too?!" From that, we can assume that Cinque wasn't in the earlier visions she saw.

Milhiore's tail-wagging is too cute. And her joy when Shinku is petting her is adorable.
So I guess Leo-hime is trying to take away Biscotti's weapons because she thinks they're the reason Milhiore and Shinku will be killed, and hopes to save them by having them in her possession during the timeframe in which they are supposed to be killed.
I'm still not sure what all of those other battles were for. I could see her wanting to conquer Biscotti in order to be able to protect Milhiore directly, but we've never seen anything in the explanations of these war games that allows for a nation to be conquered. But I suppose if a nation loses over and over and over again, they can potentially be bankrupted, and then Leo-hime's nation could come in and essentially conquer them by bailing them out.

Really looking forward to what happens next.

- Shinku thinks he's being heroic. Instead he just made a lot of work for everyone. Silly Shinku!
- No, that's a dog. That's not HomuHomu!
- Ooooh! Hikasa Youko and Asumi Kana!
- Milly is sure being mistreated as a prisoner of war! ...Or not.
- Awwww, Milly missed Leon-hime. ;_;
- Hikasa Youko's character is obviously the legendary knight in Eclair's story.
- Yes! Rico is heavy artllery! =D
- ...Jeeze, do they even need anyone else? :sd:
- That's some pretty pathetic looking fighting in Milly's TV screen.
- God I love Wakamoto Norio.
- Heh... Well, Rico did what she could.
- Fuck yes Brioche. Talk about overpowered.
- Fuck yes^2, YUKIKAZE! Instant favorite character. Everything about her is perfect ~degozaru!
I absolutely love Yukki. This was the best episode yet because of her.
The quality of the seiyuu cast in this show is borderline perverse, holy fucking shit.

Episode 5:
- Way to triple-team Eclair. But she's awesome, she can take it! I think my favorite of Gaul's guard is bunny girl Vert.
- Also, just noticed our protagonist's official name is, apparently Cinque (http://www.firegoon.com/images/a1m5iwv.jpg). Okay, I get he's half British, but exactly how many British people are named Cinque? :sd:
- Well, so much for Gaul being a potential villain... are there any bad guys in this show? Not that I need any.
- Hahahahah, Gaul gets all flustered when he finds out there was a concert planned. XD
- Brioche vs Leo, YES.
- Oooh, Leo-himesama is getting pretty serious business. There must be some encroaching evil force everyone needs to face, but she's trying to take it all on herself and so on and so forth, being ruthless (well, relatively) so everyone else can stay innocent. Or something like that, the usual.
- Oh shit, Leo is REALLY pissed. :sd: Yeah, it's definitely something like I just mentioned. She's getting so furious about it because she hates anything that would hurt Milly, like having the concert planned.
- Yukki is still my favorite character but Leo-sama is by far the most interesting. Her apology to Milly was fantastic.
- <3 Rouge getting what was going on and preemptively opening the window.
- Holy shit, Yukki can run as fast without magic as Cinque does with everything directed into speed. And she looks like she's not even trying.
- Well, until he goes rocket-powered at least.
- Nice conversation on the, uh, hoverboard, on the way back. Cinque is dumb but not in a way I can hate right now.
- Yes! Hair down again! Milly-hime <3 <3
- Haha, um, I think it was Leo that brought you victory, Milly. :sd:
- Oh man that is such a cute song...

- Yukki! SHORT YUKATA AND ZETTAI RYOUIKI OH GOD YES I DIED.
- Oh yeah, Becky. How's she doing?
- Well, still no sign of her coming to the Milly realm.
- Maid team can clean you with their eyes closed.
- Hahahaha, so Milly picks her heroes after watching an episode of Ninja Warrior.
- Milly and Cinque's conversations should be really boring but I'm still enjoying them somehow.
- Oh right. Monsters. Milly did mention that early on, didn't she? So that's the third force Leo-sama is so worried about.
- And it's the star reading that has her worried. What with the dead Milly and all.
This is totally going to be one of those situations where instead of just explaining the vision and her concerns to Milly and Cinque and working together, Leo will do something stupid like announcing the annexation of Biscotti... isn't it?

- Cinque... dude... you are not seriously playing frisbee fetch with the dog princess of this countr-- ...you are.
- At least he's not expecting her to bring it back in her mouth. >_>
- Her constantly wagging tail is too cute.
- I'm still twitchy from watching so many romcom anime. Every time Cinque touches Milly's hand, I expect them to freak out, but they never too. Good on them.
- And this is pretty cool - they don't treat going home from summoning like it's the last time they'll ever ever see each other. She can just summon him back when he's needed. Makes sense.
- Yay, nakedness. No you don't see much of anything, but I'll take that over there being something but it being steamed to hell.
- Okay, so Leo-sama is not being quite as stupidly direct as I feared. She wants to get control of the Biscotti sacred swords. I suppose that could be because she thinks having four will help her change the future, either by keeping Mille and Cinque out of whatever trouble surrounds them or making Leo strong enough to do... a thing.
- Ah yeah, 60 days. She wants them out of the picture for Milly in 30 days.
I liked Milly's speech. She's so cute. <3

I'm still not sure what all of those other battles were for.
Well, initially Leo-hime's plan seems to have been to toughen Biscotti up for whatever was coming. But that wasn't changing the visions, no matter how far she pushed it. She's been searching for another way to change the future and in the process has distanced herself from Milly and become increasingly desperate.

- Milly leads her nation to war like an idol MCing a concert.
- Lots of foreshadowing of what's going to go wrong. Depleted powers, ghosts, demons.
- Love love love Kotobuki Minako's bunny girl.
- Ahhh, so Brioche and Yukki have been hunting escaped demons all this time.
- HAHAHA, pouting Noir <3 <3
- Oh Leo-hime finally told someone.
- Ah. Three months ago she gave up trying to bolster their defenses because it just made things worse.
- AH! It's not the death of Milly that's foretold it's the death of the owners of the sacred swords. I like that explanation because it justifies how things have played out. She can't just ask Milly to give her the swords because Milly would never endanger anyone else to save herself. If Leo ever told Milly straight up, that would be the end.
- HEH! Mushimode! SO cute.
- Ah, the idea was actually Ono Daisuke's. Should I suspect him now?
- "Rico showed me the recordings." XD
- ~de arimasu!
- Oh hell yeah Eclair. Do not remind her of her nakedness. You'll get hurt.
- RICO-HIME!!! <3 <3 <3
- DEATH-MAID!!! <3 <3 <3

Seems like every Western fan is dissing this because it's another generic fantasy show.
This was only half the reason I dropped it - the other half was that it was another generic fantasy show, in the middle of a 50+ show season with at least 25 other shows I wanted to check out. I've read comments here and there to suggest that it has at least in part subverted any quick conclusions that might have been drawn about it, but the initial set-up of the show was laughably flimsy - I might go back to it once I read some more reviews after it is done in light of the reactions people seem to be giving it who have stuck with it.

I would guess there's more to be taken care of with the demon- we haven't had a chance for our resident actual Demon Hunters to shine yet, and there's still a missing half-naked loli on a bird unaccounted for (I'm guessing she caught Eclair). And the fight between the two captains.

- Haha wow, the maid costume didnt last long. Vert shoots Rico's clothes off!
- And then her clothes are shot off too!
- And then naked Rico continues on her mission just like that! THIS SHOW IS GREAT!
- Heh! Cinque swats a missile out of mid air.
- And Eclair gives us some shimapanchira before kicking ass.
- Meanwhile, Leo-hime has a dream about... WTF how many mouths does that thing have!?
- ...Something important is happening but Yukki's jiggling is mesmerizing.
- Back at Leo-hime's place. Ooh, she didn't ask to fight Cinque solo. I was worried they'd go that way, but I shouldn't be because this show has been shockingly good so far at not having Cinque completely hog the spotlight. he's very much fighting with others, and I think that makes both him and this show much more interesting.
- OH SHIT! Okay, wow, not that is even less expected! Saber version Millhi is going to fight? Oh god yes please. Though I'm guessing shit will go down before they can really get started. Or does she really have some skill?
- Well she can parry a surprise blow at least. Not bad.
- Oooh, dramatic music.
- There we go, the protective energy is fading. Monster time.
- But the future refused to change... Man, now I'm glad I got an episode behind. Straight on to 10!
What an episode though. The first half was one of the best examples I've seen of this kind of episode. Y'know, episodes where a big battle is going on before the climax of the series, where all the side characters are given a little time to shine in their own fights. This episode was awesomely paced, ridiculously fun, and had fantastic scenes of basically all the characters. Good good stuff. That seems to be what Dog Days does... take something well known, but execute in the most enjoyable way possible.
And then the second half was really, really good too. It's awesome to see how well this show handles itself when it steps back from the silliness and needs to be really serious.

- The icky monster attacks! And... oh shit, nobody leaps to Millhi's rescue to change fate. She's seriously injured and taken away. Although the latter part is different from the vision. Damn though, the first two slashing Millhi was one thing, but the third swipe that just blindsides her from the right side was brutal.
- Hooooooooooly shit, Leo-hime is pissed. And goddamned awesome.
- But down she goes, ouch.
- So, Millhi is obviously going to, like... exorcize the demon's hatred by pulling that stake or whatever was in it.
- Meanwhile, outside, EPIC SURFING! Unfortunately Eclair does do the "I'll drop out and boost you onward" thing but I have faith in this show to bring her back and not let Cinque hog all the glory. There are still two episodes left after all.
- And even if he is getting the spotlight right now, he's actually being pretty fucking awesome so I can't complain.
- And some explanation for Millhi. Also, bunny-land! I was wondering where Vert came from since everyone seemed to be dogs or cats.
- Woah, awesome. She breaks out all by herself. (Also, fffffffffffffholyshit she is hot)
- Damn you, Exceleed! Couldn't you have just stopped at, say, a barely concealing cloak? Or a sexy loose one-piece dress made of light? Or... AHEM. I mean good work, let's go save the world now.
- Haha wow, nice catch, Millhi. So... hey. They stopped the demon already. Of course, there's still the sword... and the question of who controls it.
- Daaaaaamn, that was some shot, Leo-hime. <3

Also, yay for naked Milhi.

Wait, Rico was naked when we last saw her riding off on her chocobo. Where and when did she get a change of clothes?
And it turns out Yukikaze is a fox. Or to be more precise, a fox spirit. I had assumed she was a dog. And I loved watching Yukki flipping around to dodge all those blade tendrils.
Milhi and Leo finally actually talk to each other and have a nice little chat. I especially liked Milhi getting mad and telling Leo that she's an adult now and that Leo needs to realize that, and Leo replying with how damn much she still needs Milhi's as her pillar of emotional support (well, she didn't quite say it like that, but that's what it amounted to).
Meanwhile, Eclair has clearly become quite attracted to Cinque. Rico and Yukki spying on them was amusing. We didn't get nearly enough of Noire, Vert and... uh, the tiger girl. They're posing during the concert was cute though, and I liked the little touch of Noire's head peaking out between Cinque and Yukki to get a closer look at the glowing fox spirit cub.

Indeed and they are required by law to confirm these two pairings. Seriously, I know Cinque has had moments with Milhi and there is the whole "Lead F x Lead M" thing, but it just feels like it would work better this way and make things more interesting.

Yukikaze is not only a deity girl, she was also found 150 years ago by Brioche. The latter being "human". See? This is why I like fantasy. Things like age don't have to get in the way of being cute, sexy, and/or hot.
So apparently there are 4 conditions for the Hero to return to his/her world. The conditions include not being able to visit this place again. In general the conditions for returning are worse than the conditions for being summoned.
I'm not sure what to think of this development. Especially since we already went through the whole "There is no way to.... Wait, never mind, there is a way" drama.
In any case, Cinque prefers to leave with confidence that he can return rather than assume he can't.
The episode ends with Cinque giving a speech to everyone. Without mentioning any of the cons of "returning" to his world.
So one more episode to go. Will Cinque truly return home? Will he stay in this world? Will any of the conditions mentioned in the episode be absolutes?
Why am I convinced that Milhi petting Leo is what usually happens before they ravage each other?
Will Cinque conclude that Eclair is a good enough reason to stay?
If there is a second season, would Rebecca actually get more screen time? Note, I work on the assumption that there will be none for most shows. It seems to be easier that way.
So one more episode to go. Will Cinque truly return home? Will he stay in this world? Will any of the conditions mentioned in the episode be absolutes?
Probably there'll be a "Back to the Future" style ending (we need you! monsters have returned!) where they find a loophole for another season like Leo summoning him.

You know, it was a pretty brilliant move to end the action so early, because I am really, really liking the pacing of these final episodes. It's not dragged out at all, and it's covering all the important bases. Yet another way that this show is really surpassing my expectations.
One episode left! Off to watch it now.

Episode 13:
- Don't cry Rico! You can do it!
- The day of the return has come. A ceremony is being held, and nobody else has been told yet about the conditions.
- Oh man... seeing Rico fight back tears as she desperately searches through old tomes to find a way to break the conditions is really, really sad. ;_;
- Rico. ;_;
- Damn. Eclair realizes things aren't as Rico and Cinque are presenting them. She knows Rico too well.
- Awww, this is super ;_; too. I love Eclair's very roundabout tsundere way of telling him she wants him to come back.
- Now for the actual ceremony to send him back. Huh, we're not even halfway through the episode. Interesting.
- Millhi looks more troubled than a temporary parting would warrant. She must know too, deep down.
- Well that dashes any faint hopes of a Cinque x Eclair ending. Last minute confession of love as he disappears. I guess this is one area where the show can't overcome tradition. It's not that Cinque/Millhi is bad, not at all, but Cinque works much better with Eclair and Millhi works much better with Leo.
- Still, really nice scene. And we have 12 minutes left!
- Becky!! So, isn't anyone concerned that Cinque was gone for two weeks? I know he had an alibi with Becky, but at least his parents should have noticed, right?
- He tells Becky... well, not everything because he doesn't remember everything. But he has this faint memory of having traveled somewhere.
- Off to the trip they had planned to go on. Nanami is also Mizuki Nana.
- An oceanographer and marine biologist. Not common anime parent occupations! And clearly mom is the English side.
- Back in Biscotti... awww, Noir is there to help Rico out now that she knows the conditions. Why yes I would like me some Hanazawa x Mizuki.
- They find a letter that details, very conveniently, all the conditions to bring a summoned hero back. And damn are they specific or what? Thankfully Cinque conveniently fulfilled them all.
- RICOTTA YATTA!!!!
- And with Tataumaki delivering Paladion to Cinque, Cinque remembers everything. He's totally going back, and totally bringing Becky with him! Heh, that would actually be awkward though... Becky has many rivals now.
Really good ending. Like I said for the previous episode, I love how they decided to handle the final three episodes here. They didn't throw abn even bigger villain at us, they just let the situation be resolved and then went straight-up character focus, and it really paid off.
Awesome... this show is actually now in the running for an import. I'm 75% sure I'm going to drop Hanasaku soon and OreTsuba knocked itself out of the running with a disappointing ending. That puts this, A Channel, Lotte and Sengoku Otome all fighting for 5th place behind the three I already ordered and the presumed #4, Steins;Gate.
Damn that is going to be kind of a brutal decision to make.

Nanami totally needs to become a champion for Galette. That would be awesome.
Anyway, really fantastic ending.

Oh god, Milhi petting Leo in her bed is just divine.
And we learn that Yukki and d'Arquien are over 150 years old.
Rico had some good reasons to be depressed. Not only can he not come back, but Cinque will lose his memories. He apparently plans to overcome these problems through sheer optimism and will-power. But maybe that's just his way of dealing with the situation.

Oh, there's a way back for Cinque after all. What a shocker!
But seriously, it was a pretty good ending.
I really want to see Becky and Nanami go to the other world in a second season. Here's hoping it sells enough to warrant one.

Yeah, the show was pushing plausibility with that. It worked because it involved Shinku doing something that was reasonably likely to do in a situation like that. The letter part was really straddling the line though, especially with the content of the letter, which was basically the bare minimum to satisfy the return requirements.

Nanami is awesome! She needs to be a major focus in the second season. Also, since Becky and Eclair have both already lost anyway, they should become part of her harem!
If this gets another season (I'm assuming it won't by default), I hope they drop the whole "Summoning Drama" stuff. Because to be perfectly honest, they've already beat into the ground.
It's like every five minutes, there's a new catch, a new requirement, etc. It's like the whole rules system is nothing more than someone's practical joke. In fact, I'm certain of it. It's a *****ing practical joke.
Either that or it's some elaborate test of character to see how willing people are to find a solution to a problem when they're told "There's no way out of it" or whatever.
Regardless I hope for a different focus on drama. Although knowing our luck, if Cinque does manage to get Becky and anyone else to come with him, they'll use it an excuse for more summoning related drama.

I dunno, did they really? Yeah the final episode was a little silly with it, but the show spent fairly little time dwelling on it while there was fun action to be had. I felt like the balanced it really well. And the last episode, while silly, was a really cute, wholesome kind of silliness. I teared up watching Rico go from total depression to utter elation as things came together.

This is tenuous enough that I don't even want to change the post subject line yet, because even calling it a season two rumor is a bit premature.

Anyway, a couple sites have latched onto this comment in an interview with Tsuzuki Masaki, screenplay and original creator for Dog Days (and Nanoha for that matter). At the end they refer to "DOG DAYS 1期", or "Dog Days first season". Some are taking that as a hint that another season is planned. We'll see... this is the release week for the BD/DVD and it's ranked a bit better than expected in the first couple daily rankings, so it may be selling better than was expected early on. We'll know by Tuesday at the earliest how it did. My copy shipped today so I'm doing what I can to make it happen.

Having just finished this, at best I can only describe this show as fluff and a filler when there's nothing else to watch. It wasn't really that bad but I certainly won't be rewatching this or planning to catch the 2nd season unless the word is out that the 2nd season is nothing like the 1st season.
Some of the plot points were rather eh and the attempts at action and drama lacked tension. Kind of pitiful when some of the best moments of this show involve fanservice. I will however give it credit for actually having a 2 episode epilogue which is better than some shows that don't even have an epilogue or even an ending.

With the way the first season ended, there has to be a second season. Certainly, the word that describes the ending is "convenient" and if you watched it, you know what I mean.

Yeah, but done in such an enjoyable way that ignoring the unlikely nature of it was pretty easy. I just like the characters too much to mind.
Anyway, first volume sold nearly 10k (which is just... holy shit, nobody expected that) so a sequel is virtually guaranteed.

The Flonyard Matsuri event that just ended, I dunno, maybe an hour ago, apparently revealed that the second season is indeed in production. News story is being updated as I type this with more info but the basic info about it being announced at the end is there.

Awesome, they went back and fixed that terrible looking concert scene. Too bad I never have time to rewatch anything but my absolute favorite shows... but I might rewatch this scene at least just to see it how it should look.

There's a picture of a new character at the link above. Oh, and lest I forget... she's voiced by Yuuki Aoi! Because this show wasn't seiyuu porn enough already, I guess. Her name is "Kuuberu Esshenbahha Pastiyaaji" which I'm going to assume is supposed to be... I have no idea. Cubert Eschenbach Pastage? Uhh, we're gonna need an official spelling on this one.
Also, the director has changed. The first season was done by Kusakawa Keizou (http://myanimelist.net/people/12655/Kusakawa_Keizou), who directed Nanoha from A's onward, Sekirei, Roukyuubu, etc. The new director is Nishimura Junji (http://myanimelist.net/people/6837/Junji_Nishimura), who has Simoun, Kyou Kara Maou, True Tears, a chunk of Ranma 1/2 and so on.
I guess it'll be fine and all as long as the tone doesn't change, and I did love Simoun, but Kusakawa's history just seems more "appropriate" for a show like Dog Days. Well, I doubt it'll make a huge difference.

Here is the PV for Dog Days' (http://www.dogdays.tv/index.html) (taking a cue from Working'!! with the name there!). It is now up on the official site.
Pretty much it is what I was expecting it to be. The characters are the selling points of this show, which allows it to get away with making the plot so convenient. And as one could have predicted given the way the first season ended, Becky and Nanami are joining Cinque on the journey, with Nanami being summoned by the Galette Army to be their hero much like Cinque was for the Biscotti Republic.

Though for Dog Days' its pronounced "Dog Days Dash"
Also, Leon-hime and Nanami together is going to be awesome.

Oh god, legendary heroine Nanami with Leon-hime? Rebecca with Millihi?
All of my imports, Dog Days.
But man, is Rebecca's life going to suck or what? She's going to get a crash course in being an osananajimi in an alternate world love story. Poor girl. Maybe she has a slight chance if Cinque and Millihi have to be separated for good but as much as I like Rebecca I'm not sure I want that to happen. If only Rebecca would pair off with Eclair instead...
