According to this article it looks as Nintendo is ready to move on from the Wii and unveil a new system as early as this years E3 in June.

Well, it'd explain why they're releasing nothing but shovelware the first half of this year...

I'll read the article later because the site doesn't want to actually load! As for the news of this.
Meh, I might have cared more in the past, but here's the harsh truth. I never got much out of the Wii for the main reason that a certain game involving Galaxies made me dislike motion controls.
Well, to be fair, it's partially my fault for not doing enough research to find Wii games that didn't require such controls as the main focus and being distracted by other games.
Even so, I can't exactly feel the urge to rush out and get the system the second it comes out.

Those wily GI guys got a lot of information out of an internal server error. I guess that's why they're trade press and we're just fans. ;) That said, I'll be ready for SMG3 in HD when they get it done.

g it could surpass or fall short of those systems. Either way it will offer competitive specifications. Moving to HD should greatly help Nintendo and its new console in getting more multi-platform triple-A titles like Portal 2 or Mortal Kombat.
hah. MK never really was MK when paired with Nintendo. Guess that will finally change and deservingly so. Wonder if Duke Nukem Forever will have a chance on it. :P

Nintendo has a lot to prove to me with this next console, as the failures of the Wii pretty much single-handedly made me a multiplatform owner for the first time in my life. Unless Nintendo has severely stepped up their game and created a console that actually appeals to gamers and 3rd parties, I just don't see the point in investing in another 5-6 years of Nintendo's console B.S.

I bought the Gamecube for $99 near the end of it's life, and now I'll do the same for the Wii, as there are rumors of a price drop after E3.

As long as it's HD, an achievement system, a better friend system, better standard controller support, and a headset where the Wii failed, then I have no complaints.
Of course you're going to have rehashes. You'll have you're WarioWare, Mario Kart, Smash Bros., Flagship Mario, Zelda, and Metroid, announced Kirby title to be canceled, and original yet more interesting titles that won't leave Japan but somehow get released in Europe. I confess I'm excited for half of those if they become reality. Of course I would like better third-party support. Sure Tatsunoko vs. Capcom was awesome (and IMO, better than MvC3), but it's not enough.
Also if Skyward Sword gets canceled and instead gets developed for this new console, I'm gonna be pissed.:anger200: But it's Nintendo, I should expect this.:P

I'll be astonished if the next Nintendo console has an achievement system, as Nintendo has been quite vocal about its disdain for achievements/trophies. Notice that the 3DS doesn't have them, either. As for better standard controller support, one can hope but we'll have to see what Nintendo's new anti-3rd party control gimmick is going to be first.

Makes me wonder if the reason the US isn't getting bigger budget titles like Last Story and Xenoblade is because they want to release it on this new system (with updated HD graphics, naturally)

I'd call that doubtful. Neither of those are on the same level as a Zelda game; Nintendo wouldn't pay for the extra development, and it seems unlikely that either Mistwalker or Monolith have a whole lot of money in the bank to sit on games like that.

There aren't many other 3rd party games worth owning for the Wii, sadly. This game is the only reason I still have the console.

It's been like this since the N64. I think they've found so much success with the handheld market that they simply stopped caring about the console side of things outside of appealing to the hipsters every 5 years or so. I think I own at most 15 games between the last 3 Nintendo consoles. Most of them being launch titles.

The Wii is a joke in my opinion. It's about damn time Nintendo got serious and release a console on par with Sony and Microsoft.

I could live with a system with a crappy library like the N64, but it's another thing when a system has a bad library and an even worse controller.

I'm not a big fan of any of the current consoles, but maybe I'm just getting old. Been mainly using Sega CD, Saturn, Dreamcast, and SNES as of late. With a little Pokemon Red as well as Black thrown in there too.

I was hoping for the "Ultra Dolphin Revolution".:P

I think Nintendo is going to have trouble backing up the success of the Wii. While it was a massive success it was certainly no PSX or PS2 when it came to dominating this gen.
PSX = 102 million
N64 (33 million) + Saturn (8 Million) = 41 Mil
PSX outsells its competitors by 61 mil
PS2 = 142 mil
XBOX (24 mil) + Gamecube (21mil) + Dreamcast (8 mil) = 53 mil
PS2 outsells its competitors by 89 mil
Wii = 86 million
360 (53 mil) + PS3 (50 mil) = 103 mil
Wii is 17 million behind the combined efforts of it's competitors, who share most of the HD games between them.
Also a HD Wii beyond the current PS360 offers nothing the large amount of first console buyers they captured who are like 30 years old playing Wii Sports and Wii Fit. Having a pricey upgrade is not going to entice them.. they might not care to upgrade in the first place and if they wanted better graphics they can always go the cheaper Natal or Move route...
Basically I think MS and Sony moved to Natal and MOVE not so much for this gen but to step into the upgrade path for Wii owners of a certain type. Nintendo will always have it's core fanbase.. but a lot of good that did them the two previous gens...
So I've interested in seeing what Nintendo do....
Makes me wonder if the reason the US isn't getting bigger budget titles like Last Story and Xenoblade is because they want to release it on this new system (with updated HD graphics, naturally)
Those are niche games in the US market....

Of course they are.
The guy I quoted said Nintendo might be saving them for it's next console and update their graphics like with what happened with Twilight Princess. He's acting like these are major games and could get people to buy a new Nintendo HD system that is like $350+.
That's not the case at all since they're niche.
Europe announces release dates earlier than USA for a lot of companies, Europe announced the Arcade Edition of SSFIV before it was even confirmed for release on console. Xenoblade is coming to the US on the Wii and it will get released a few days before Europe as usual.

When did "I wonder" mean "I'm sure"? I missed the memo on that one. :beat:
Anyway, not every launch game will be a "major" game. And if Nintendo thinks they can get ten more dollars for Last Story "here", and then turn around and sell it again in Japan for more; then more power to them. Or any game they may be "holding back" for that matter, not just LS.

Wii 2, code-named Project Cafe, will have tablet controller? (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6308804.html?om_act=convert&om_clk=newstop&tag=newstop%3Btitle%3B1)
A tablet controller? Interesting... On the plus side it'll be more powerful than the PS3 & Xbox 360 and backwards compatible with the Wii. (Not a fan of the Wii).
I'll have to wait and see more info on this to see whether this is worth buying.

Forza 4, Gears 3, Halo remake(?), probably a load of XBLA stuff, possibly some hardcore Kinect games, maybe Versus XIII confirmed for 360 and a new trailer if they/you are feeling optimistic :P

Being more powerful than the PS3 and Xbox360 (or at their level) is surly a step in the right direction especially if it uses BD. Now i have only one simple request from Nintendo, no regional locking please ! And if you think it's cool and will make more people buy your consoles like what you might have thought with 3DS then count me out.

Now least not get ahead of our selves here, this is Nintendo after all. If were lucky it will be about as powerful as one of the next gen console. Doubtful it will be more could be a smig less. I can't find were I heard it but its rumored to be based off the X360's 3 core cpu, but who know for now.
It will likely include a highly interesting innovation/gimmick that will be center of attention. I'm guessing a sorta portable/controller.
I mean look at the 3DS. Does it blow the PSP specs out of the water? I'm pretty sure it won't be more advance then the NGP, or hell the next iPhone.

As the article mentioned, 2014 is just a target. A lot can happen between now and then. One thing is for sure, MS and Sony are milking their current consoles for as long as possible. A really successful launch of Wii 2 may cause them to speed up things.

Nintendo's New Console Could Cost $400 and Have Two Distinct Controllers (http://www.1up.com/news/nintendo-new-console-cost-have-two-distinct-controllers)
Ok, a touch screen controller with 8 buttons and two analog sticks would make it a definite buy as long as there is strong third-party support!

$400, that combined with other factors gives me even more reason to just wait off. Not that I'm surprised at that number.
As for controllers, I mainly play RPGs anyway. So really I just need enough to open menus, move to new areas, and select battle commands.:P

That's crazy, I would never pay that much for any system. Nintendo has always had systems at launch under $300 so I doubt they'd go that high. Many are predicting that Nintendo will announce the the look and details of Project Cafe at this years E3 in June.

Looks like this is all true! Nintendo have confirmed it, it'll be available in 2012 and playable at E3! Best source is the opening post in the GAF thread:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=27374293&postcount=1
Tentative release date of June 2012.
-Controller screen resolution of 800x500.
-Can play games, watch movies, and more without turning on the TV by just streaming them to the controllers. Can stream to multiple controllers at once.
-Each controller acts a terminal, with the console doing all of the calculations to reduce latency, controller cost, and bandwidth requirements.

Streaming video screen controllers aside, this sounds like nothing but an HD stopgap product from Nintendo to try and compete with the current HD twins and get ports of the big selling titles. What's going to happen in a few years when MS and Sony have new systems that will more than likely outclass this? I feel bad for people who bought a Wii and wiell now get left out in the cold unless they buy the new Nintendo.
This is purely my opinion, but this seems like too little, too soon.

What's going to happen in a few years? I have a better question: Who gives a fuck? That kind of thinking is counterproductive in the extreme. Here's the deal: The computer you buy today will be "obsolete" within three months. Should you hold off for three months? No, for two reasons. First, the computer you buy today will give you several years of quality service; second, the computer you buy in three months will be "obsolete" in six. It's the circle of electronic life, man!
What matters is this and only this: Will the new Nintendo console have games I want to play? If yes, it's worth buying. If no, it's not. It's stupid to fret over what Microsoft or Sony may or may not do, whenever they may or may not do it. Let Sony and Microsoft take care of themselves. If the PS4 totally outclasses the Wii 2, so be it! But check this out: From my point of view, even though the PS3 totally outclasses the Wii, the Wii is the console to have. Why? Because there are more Wii games I want to play! Period! The PS3 could have a controller attachment that gives me handjobs and it won't make it worthwhile because I own only two games for the damn thing!
PS: I don't mean to single you out personally when I ask, Who gives a fuck? I'm just making conversation. ;)

Some more rumors (http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=156704) have sprouted regarding Project Cafe and some other interesting developments:
- Retro Studios is not working on Eternal darkness 2 or Zelda
- Rareware and Nintendo have have had discussions of working on the 3DS
- the idea of working on a revamp of StarFox Adventures was discussed, but seems to have been shelved
- Banjo-Kazooie on 3DS is not out of the question
- much like Viva Pinata on DS, Microsoft thinks that brand extensions on DS could help them sell games on 360
- multiple third parties are working on ports of 360/PS3 games for Project Cafe, with one third party in particular porting a bunch of content
- Nintendo may consider letting the Metroid series cool for awhile after support for the franchise seems to be waning
- Nintendo thinks the Earthbound series makes more sense on portables, but that doesn't confirm anything in the works
- system is once again, more powerful than 360/PS3
